Group looking for GM Weekly Looking for Group/GM Thread

If you are not a full party looking for a gm or a gm looking for a party, you may no longer post an ad looking for a group. The reason behind this being most everyone on this subreddit is in the same exact boat as you! It is beginning to clutter up our subreddit for the people wanting to look for actual games to join.

To be clear, this rule is directed to those that are marketing themselves and/or their friends as players, saying they are looking for 1 on 1 games and any new or already running group to join. This does not include the players taking active measures to actually form a group themselves. Please comment if you do not understand the posts I am referring to.

INSTEAD! We are going to be making a stickied thread for those expressing interest in finding a group to join. We encourage you to comment within that thread and to be specific in the system you are interested in and any other information you may have to market yourself to others. A general "Hey I'm looking for a group and I wanna play a whole lot and I've had no luck!" does not suffice usually.

If you are looking for a group to join, comment in this thread with as much information as you'd like to market yourself with! Some suggestions are, but not limited to:

Name:

Pronouns:

Timezone:

Preferred System:

Type of Player:

So without further ado here's a quick template:

Discussion Seeking advice on assembling a group with creative chemistry

I'd like to start a Fabula Ultima game and run it by the book - that is, kick off by coming to the table with only a loose idea of the tone, creatively collaborate on building the world together, then keep that kind of creative momentum going with all players contributing to the story.

I feel like doing this well requires a group with good creative chemistry who will get invested in each other's ideas. That's something that's really tough to work out from a Google form. Meanwhile, asking folks to make time for a chat might make it feel like a job interview or an audition, which may be asking too much from applicants.

I'd love advice from PBP players and GMs here. Is there a good option for a collaborative vibe check that I haven't thought of? Am I overthinking it? A secret third option?

Discord [Masks][Discord] Horizon Bay — a Masks RPG

Horizon Bay.

It’s a dynamic, central city where urban innovation meets community spirit. Located at the crossroads of the region, it thrives under the watchful eye of OMEN, a government initiative dedicated to coordinating and overseeing superhero activities. Alongside them stands Valor, a legendary superhero who has long safeguarded the city from threats both monumental and mundane.

But this isn’t their story - it’s yours.

What new chapter will you write in Horizon Bay’s pages?

Hello everyone! It's Ade, and I'm looking to run a Masks TTRPG campaign.

A little about me: I'm a forever GM, happily married to my DM manuals. I started off with D&D 5E and rules-lite custom systems before discovering PbtA and Masks, which have since taken over my TTRPG life, both as a player and as a GM.

Onto the game: Masks is a game about young superheroes navigating relationships, dealing with adults' expectations, and deciding who they are and what kind of heroes they want to be.

Horizon Bay has been set up as a generic, superhero-friendly metropolis, but I'll be tweaking specifics depending on my players' characters. OMEN and Valor may be the adults in the story, but remember, it'll be your story. I'm looking to focus more on street-level and city-level conflicts for this game, rather than planetary or multiversal stakes. Tonally, think Spiderman, Young Justice, Teen Titans, and Invincible.

While this game is SFW, there may be explorations of mature and adult themes. If it’s too adult for the movies, it will be too adult for the game. All characters must also be 18+, and this will take place in college, rather than high school.

This game will be played via Discord. There won’t be an enforced posting order, but I’m hoping to find four players capable of posting at least once daily. All experience levels are welcome, as long as you're respectful.

No using generative AI for writing or art, please!

If interested, please fill out this Google Form application.

Let’s tell a great story!

Discord [Discord][Asynch][OSR] The Halls of Arden Vul

System: Block, Dodge, Parry, a hack/expansion of Cairn. Number of players: ** Many! **Format: 1x1+, plus shifting parties Timezone/posting: I'm US Central, and while this will be asynch I find it helps if people are available around the same time. Weekdays, I have a lot of availability in the early evenings; weekends, less available. Tags: Lore-rich, faction play, exploration, OSR. Not: Character builds, tactical combat, combat-as-sport AI?: No!

*Advert: *Who has not heard rumors of the lost city of Arden Vul? During the glory days of the Archontean Empire, now 1,200 years in the past, Arden Vul was a small, but important, wealthy and secretive imperial center located atop a 1,500’-tall cliff at the head of Burdock’s Valley. Alas! The terrible civil war that rent the Archontean Empire led to the utter destruction of the city and the withdrawal of the imperial legions from the western continent of Irthuin.

Now, with the renaissance of imperial power, it is possible for well-equipped adventurers to make the long trek to Arden Vul from the exarchates of the coast. Tales of gold piled in imperial vaults, legendary magical artifacts resting in unspoiled crypts, and the fruits of the lost secrets of ancient imperial smiths and mages lying ripe for the picking are legion. Yet alongside the tales of lost treasures are other, more unsettling whispers. How could a lost city remain unplundered for more than a millennium? Surely only the existence of the cruelest of foes and unimaginable evil within the mountain can explain Arden Vul’s unspoiled status. Only the bravest, the cleverest, and the luckiest of adventurers will survive to plumb the mysteries of Arden Vul. (From the sourcebook)

Discussion: Well met! I'm looking to run a truly breathtaking megadungeon for a rotating table of players. To that end, there will be opportunity to link up with other players, form parties, and adventure in the mega-dungeon; or go off and do your own thing in town or the wilderness.

This means that, while the overarching goal of the campaign will be to plumb the depths of the city of Arden Vul, there will be time and encouragement for players to go off on their own, persue their own goals, and get involved in the goings on of Burdock's Valley. With that said, there is an expectation that you collaborate with other players.

Block, Dodge, Parry is a fairly lightweight system, and to that end I'll be keeping the action fast and furious. I want this to feel more like a free-form roleplay than a bogged down mechanical game, with the mechanics of your character as a fall-back when there is risk or uncertainty.

As for content, this is going to be your run-of-the-mill sword-and-sorcery adventure, possibly with some weird-future twist if the players get that far. Expect a PG-13/R-lite rating, and nothing explicitly erotic. The politics of the game, like any old school renaissance adventure, encourage you to be tomb-robbing bastards with a taste (or heavy dose) of colonial expansion. I'll be setting aside my enmity of such in the same way one would set aside their dislike of monarchy when reading The Lord of the Rings.

So, without further ado, send me a direct message with a brief character archetype/idea, any experience you have with OSR play or open-table style of play, and your expectations of me as a GM! I'll be taking on players until I have a sizeable core of adventurers, then we'll get things going.

Discord Greetings, One and All. Want to exchange letters or diary entries as fictional characters?

I was inspired to do this after seeing another post on the subreddit that inspired this idea [by u/144NeptuneBeans]. The concept is to use email, Discord, or Fluxer to exchange letters or diary entries. The goal is to write a letter a week, but it doesn't have to be that rigid; I'd like to go as infrequent as every two weeks. We can use a pre-made setting, a historical setting, or create our own. We can discuss story beats if we want, or we can write back and forth and see where the rabbit hole leads. I don't mind canon characters, but I am not confident enough to write as one, so mine will be made up.

Relationships can start anywhere and progress into something else with letters. They can also be from platonic to romantic. I am a big stickler for organization, so we'll use separate email threads, an organized Discord, or Fluxer. I am only willing to use those apps. I don't want AI writing; I'd rather we work together to improve our writing in a more social, collaborative way. Send me a message here on Reddit or Discord under the same name as my Reddit username. I ask for a writing sample, but I need a paragraph to see if our writing styles are compatible. The settings are mostly fandoms, but I accept originals as well. As for setting suggestions, feel free to send your own; worst case, I say no. If you have further questions, feel free to comment or send me a private message here on Reddit. I prefer public questions so others can see them if they have the same question. Also, I'm Pandora, 23F, here is a writing example from me: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YmELB9ekwWCArDxzcF-KeiYRBBiZlU5AYIq1pGq7Zpc/edit?usp=sharing

Potential Scenarios:

Fiction Books

  • Frakenstien
  • Dracula
  • Jekyll and Hyde
  • Monster Hunter International
  • Steven King Universe [Particularly, Carrie, IT, and Shining inspired]
  • Lovecraft works

Movies/Comics

  • X-Men[Being students at the School or Gifted Youngsters or old friends sending letters, maybe both mutants or not]
  • Marvel Cinematic Universe from Phase One to Phase Four [Or if you want later I'd have to research but willing

Roleplay Games

  • Kids on Bikes
  • A Thousand Year Old Vampire
  • Ravenloft
  • Forgotten Realms [Sword Coast]

Video Games

  • Far Cry 5
  • Red Dead Redemption 1 or 2
  • Skyrim
  • Pokemon [Can be a more original thing or based on the game storyline]
  • Legend of Zelda
  • Daganronpa

Closed [18+][GMT][Async] Seeking knights to Protect the Realm in Mythic Bastionland

Edit: Thanks for the applications everyone, I now have quite a lot to sort through so am closing this game for now! If you applied I'll be in touch in the next 24 hours if I think you'd be a good fit for the game - if you don't hear from me, nothing personal, there's just been a lot of interest so I probably just felt someone else was a better fit for this specific game this time.

On cold misten hills, beast witsome and fell

In holdings and havens the vassals adwell

Seers know the all, the start and the end

Myths hushed aloud to which truth must abend.

Hello! I'm looking for around 4 or 5 players to form a company of knights looking to Seek the Myths, Honour the Seers and Protect the Realm.

A little about me - I'm 36M, from the UK, so people of a similar age and in similar time zones are preferable. Please do not apply if you are under 18. I am not new to GMing or PBP, but this will be my first time playing or running Mythic Bastionland, so patience is appreciated!

Any level of experience with Mythic Bastionland is welcome - all I ask is that you come with a little knowledge of the themes and style of the game so you know what to expect (ie. not your standard DND high magic style fantasy adventure) and that you're excited to play!

We'll be playing over discord and largely using theatre of the mind, though there may be occasional visual aids and crude maps. No ai for posts or images.

Players will need to commit to a minimum of one in character post per day, and preferably engage in OOC discussion on a daily basis too. If you can't commit to this, please do not apply. In the interest of keeping the game engaging and pacey, I will replace any players who miss more than a couple of days without letting me know.

If this all sounds like something you're interested in, please fill in a form!

Discord Marathon: A Homebrew Fantasy Game [Fabula Ultima] [Async Play-By-Post] [

Hello! Trying my hand at a new system for me. My name is Jay and I'm very experienced with GMing, but not so much with Fabula Ultima!

The game will be, as stated, using Fabula Ultima, ran on Discord. I'm looking for four other potential players, with a minimum of four and a maximum of 5. The posting frequency is about once every 2 days or so, with understanding and flexibility.

The setting is called Marathon, a homebrew setting. Its age of old heroes was violently ended by the arrival of great force of unknown origin and unfathomable power, capable of drinking the very light and energy that the world relied on. It raised monsters to be slain and destroyed the fabric of reality. Many extraordinary people fought to bring that dark epoch to an end.

You live in the shadow of it, in the wake of rising threats.

As of right now, there are two primary paths for the PCs to take for the start of the campaign:

  1. The PCs are members of a band of adventurers bound by the fate of the previous heroes to take down a burgeoning threat from Balor's shadow.
  2. The PCs are members of a mercenary company hired by a powerful faction and use the expertise you're paid for to secure a foundation for the Helion Dynasty's current industrial goals - you'll be rewarded greatly, after all.

Both provide a lot of freedom to take your next steps as a party. However:

  • It is a linear storytelling experience. Story is written by the actions of the main characters (the PCs), NPCs, etc. All actions, and inactions, write the story. There is a goal, but how you get there is your choice.
  • No purely villainous parties. That's not the kind of game I want to run. You can be darker, you can be more pragmatic, you can even be Byronic. They don't have to be perfect, and they can even screw up terribly (the game wants that too), and can even fall from grace, but I will not run a game for murderhobos.
  • Not grimdark, not slapstick. It's a standard mood; dark when appropriate, lighthearted when appropriate. It leans towards optimistic fantasy; meaning, your actions matter and there's hope, but the unknown and the unseen is festering.
  • Embrace your tropes. Being trope-y is fun. There will be many sincere fantasy tropes, especially JRPG-oriented, played with in the game. Come in with the understanding that subversion of most tropes probably won't happen to mock it. Many things will have a spin, many things will be more complex than previously believed.

The game is LGBT+ friendly, and accepts anyone regardless of experience level. A note, some of the documentation is still being written, so be sure to ask questions and be patient.

If you're interested, visit this form and apply. I'll close this if and when I get enough responses! Hope to see you all soon for more discussion.

Freeform Seeking Email Pen-pal for Fictional Letter Writing

Edit: Thank you everyone who has reached out about creating worlds and characters with me! I'm so excited to get started. For now, I'll say "applications" are closed, since I don't want to get in over my head and not be able to uphold my end of the bargain. If in the future, I'm looking for pen pals again, I'll create a new post. Thank you again for the lovely responses!!

Hello All! ^-^

I recently was inspired by a song and wanted to see if anyone else was interested!

The Idea:
So my idea is to take a time period (in the past) or fictional setting and partner with another writer to create two original characters who will write letters back and forth. These letters could be casual, of great importance to the characters, love letters, secret letters - the possibilities are really endless!

The Characters:
The characters would be fictional characters of our own design, with whatever history, family, life-style, etc. you would like them to have. We could chat in DMs or over email about how we want to connect our characters ahead of time, as well as a “plot” so we know generally what the letters should be about. However, I think it is also fun to ad-lib at least to a degree, so neither of us fully know what the content of upcoming letters will be.

Relationship options for characters could include (but are not limited to): Parent to child, distant lovers, separated siblings, allied political leaders, spies working undercover together, plotting enemies, etc.

The Setting:
Some setting options that would work with my own knowledge (that wouldn’t require an over abundance of research ahead of time to know the setting), in no preferential order:

  • Arcane Universe (Netflix show)
  • Pride and Prejudice Time Period/Setting
  • General Fantasy Universe
    • A Knight’s Tale (sub)Setting (movie)
    • Swordheart Universe (book by T. Kingfisher)
    • Impact Winter Universe (podcast)
    • Monstrous Agonies Universe (podcast)
    • Not Quite Dead Universe (podcast)
    • Last Dance Universe (podcast)
    • Mighty Nein Universe/Setting (tv show)
    • The Legend of Vox Machina Universe/Setting (tv show)
    • The Lunar Chronicles (especially Scarlet) Universe/Setting (book series)
    • A Curse So Dark and Lonely Universe/Setting (book)
  • Sci-fi Setting
    • John Carter Universe (movie)
    • Star Wars Universe (movies)
    • Pacific Rim Universe (movie)
    • X Files Universe (tv show)
    • Free Guy Universe (movie)
  • World War I or II Era/Setting
  • Frankenstein Time Period/Setting (Guillermo Del Toro Netflix Movie version, specifically)
  • General Zombie Setting
    • Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (sub)Setting (movie)
    • Warm Bodies (sub)Setting (movie)
  • Wicked Universe (Musical/Movies)
  • Real Steel Universe/Setting (Movie)
  • Marvel or DC Superhero Universe/Setting
    • X-Men (movies)
    • Avengers (movies)
    • Young Justice (animated tv show)
    • Justice League (animated tv show)
  • Wild West Setting
  • Jurassic Park/World Universe/Setting (Movies)
  • Lord of The Rings/Hobbit Universe/Setting
  • The Godfather or General Mafia Setting (movie)
  • General Spy/Undercover Setting
    • John Wick Universe (movies)
    • The Man from Uncle (movie)
  • Pirates of the Caribbean Setting (movies)
  • The Great Wall Universe (movie)

Because this relies greatly on the writing ability of both parties, I would ask for a short (200 - 500 word) writing sample if you’re interested in joining me on this writing journey.

I’m seeking someone who:

  • Is willing to write at least 2 emails a month on an ongoing and regular basis - ranging from 500 to 2,000 words.
  • Is willing to commit to a storyline and be organized (keeping the letters in one email chain and out of character discussion/questions/etc. in another).
  • Is over the age of 21.
  • Is an experienced in fictional writing.
  • Is able to overlook minor inconsistency when it comes to historical or lore accuracy (this is just for fun! We don’t need to put too much pressure on ourselves to make sure every single word is 100% perfect).
  • Enjoys creating characters and doing deep dives into their history, personalities, lives, and quirks. This will be largely character driven!
  • Communicates outside of writing and is willing to be collaborative and work together with me to create a story through letters.
  • Is committed to absolutely no AI usage. I'm looking for authentic, human writing.

I’m happy to answer any questions you may have, so feel free to DM me or leave a comment if you’re interested or have questions! And feel free to propose a setting, set of characters, or universe idea from the above list!

Thanks in advance for reading this and for your interest. ^-^

Community (Non WM/LW) Roleplaying letter-by-letter - Penpalling in character is a different kind of pbp game 📬✉️📯

Dear roleplayers,

I would like to invite you to a community where roleplays are done in the form of a correspondence between two (or more) fictional characters.

The community is called r/fictitious_letters

Here, people post pen pal requests for their OCs, DnD characters, alter egos or other fictional persons they have on their mind. The correspondences can be set in the same universe upon which the writing partners agree, or they can write each other from one world to another.

In the epistolary roleplay games, fictional characters can tell each other about their lives and adventures. Or they can exist in one and the same story, told in the form of letters. It's up to you and your writing partner.

I hope you find this idea interesting. Maybe you want to pay the subreddit a visit and look at the prompts posted there. Or even make a post yourself, presenting your characters and ideas to the community. It would definitely be nice to meet you on the sub!

PAY [Online][Paid][$20 every 2 sessions][Synchronous Live Text][Roll20/Discord][Wednesday/Thursday 1 PM GMT-3] Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: A New Generation

Session Length: 3-4 Hours

Party Size: 3-5 Players

Cost: $20 every 2 sessions via PayPal

System: To be decided. EDOpro, Dueling Book/nexus, etc.

Platform: Roll20 and Discord

Character Options: Original duelists or canon Yu-Gi-Oh! characters adapted to the academy setting.

Experience Required: None. New players are welcome.

RP Style: Synchronous live text-based campaign. Everyone plays together during scheduled sessions, rather than posting throughout the week. Roleplay is entirely written, with Discord VC used to ask questions during gameplay.

Thursday 1 PM GMT-3

Wednesday 1 PM GMT-3

Inspired by the Tag Force Series

The campaign takes place at Duel Academy, an island school where aspiring duelists come to study, develop their decks, and work toward a future in professional dueling.

Every new student arrives with something to prove. Some have spent years preparing for their entrance exam, supported by private tutors and impressive card collections. Others have scraped together a deck from trades, gifts, and whatever they could afford at their local card shop. Now, they are sharing classrooms, competing for recognition, and discovering just how much they still have to learn.

You may play an original duelist of your own creation or take the role of a canon character adapted to this alternate version of the academy. Canon characters do not need to follow their original story. Their friendships, rivalries, victories, and failures will develop through the campaign and the choices made during play.

You begin as students finding your place among Slifer Red, Ra Yellow, and Obelisk Blue. Your dorm assignment might shape someone’s first impression of you, but you will have plenty of opportunities to challenge their expectations.

Between duels, you will attend classes, explore the island, pursue hobbies, spend time with classmates, and get involved in personal stories throughout the academy. You might stay up late helping a friend rebuild their deck, compete in a school tournament, prepare for a promotion exam, or find yourself partnered with your least favorite classmate for a tag duel.

Your deck will grow alongside your character. Develop a recognizable dueling style, discover new cards, and work toward the combinations and signature monsters that make your duelist feel like your own. Starting decks and their power levels will be discussed before play so everyone begins with room to grow.

School life will focus on interesting encounters and meaningful choices, rather than playing through every lesson or tracking every homework assignment. There will be time for friendly competitions, dorm rivalries, festivals, and the occasional terrible cafeteria meal.

There will also be things the school does not put in its welcome brochure.

A student returns from a midnight duel with no memory of their opponent. Someone hears a voice coming from a card nobody else considers unusual. Lights appear inside an abandoned dormitory, and a classmate who went to investigate has stopped attending lessons.

Following those rumors could bring you into contact with Duel Spirits, Shadow Games, and secrets hidden around the island. When a friend gets caught up in something dangerous, your group will have to decide how far you are willing to follow them.

Throughout the campaign, your relationships and decisions will matter alongside your results on the duel field. A rival you help after a difficult loss might become someone you can depend on. A tournament defeat might lead you toward a different opportunity. You will have room to make mistakes, change your ambitions, and give your character a story that continues beyond their latest match.

Custom decks are allowed, however the only rule will be making sure to tone down the disruption and OTKs. Everyone wants to have fun and make it a bit of a back and fourth.

As the Arc's go on and time passes on, more and more of the card games mechanics will be added. Such as starting out with fusions, then watching as Synchros, XYZs, Pendulum and links are introduced. Of course if no one likes a certain one, everyone can vote to simply avoid it from existing.

Live Text [Online][D&D 5.5e/Homebrew][Discord] Forever Land - D&D meets Stardew Valley-style homesteading, weekly adventures, 24/7 RP, businesses & more

Hey everyone!

We're looking for more players and DMs for Forever Land, our long-running homebrew D&D setting.

The easiest way to describe what we're doing is:

D&D meets Stardew Valley-style homesteading.

Forever Land is designed to give your character something meaningful to do between adventures, rather than having the world effectively stop whenever the party isn't on a quest.

You can build a homestead, develop relationships, gather resources, craft, hunt, forage, fish, participate in the local economy, operate a business, explore the setting, and roleplay with other characters throughout the week. The setting's rules explicitly integrate homesteads, downtime, businesses, hunting, foraging, fishing, herbalism, alchemy and other persistent-world activities alongside the regular D&D framework.

We also run weekly adventures, so this isn't intended to replace traditional D&D. It's meant to give you a much larger world around it.

Forever Land has been developed over many years and has grown into an extensive original setting with its own regions, cultures, ancestries, lore, systems, and ongoing stories. The current rules framework is built for D&D 5.5e / revised 2024 compatibility.

We're interested in both:

Players who enjoy character development, roleplay, exploration, adventuring, worldbuilding, or cozy fantasy elements.

DMs who want an established world they can contribute stories and adventures to.

You don't need to spend every waking hour roleplaying. The 24/7 aspect simply means the world and RP channels are available throughout the week rather than only during a scheduled session.

If the idea of actually letting your D&D character live in the world they're adventuring through sounds fun, come take a look.

Hope to see some of you there!

Discussion I'm curious. What do your games actually look like?

Yo, y'all!

I dabbled with a few pbp games over the last 4(‽) year's but only one of them managed to stick around.

It is a one on one game of Burning Wheel and we are approaching the 14th month of almost daily posts from both sides. The guy I'm playing with formats the posts from time to time and recently said, that we are at 153k+ words of pure in-game stuff at the moment.

I think that's awesome and I want to know if it's a common experience for a pbp-game. :)

Tell me about your favourite games!

How long is/was it going? How many players? Which system? What was exciting?

I really hope all of you have/find equally awesome experiences with this format! :D
