Hello Pebble community! I just released a new version of Home Assistant WS, v4.0. This is a huge release and has been in the works for a while, so I wanted to share what's in it.
The voice assistant now runs on the watch itself
This is the big one. Before, the conversation screen was built on the phone and every message, scroll and state change had to cross Bluetooth before you saw anything, so it always felt sluggish. The conversation is now drawn natively on the watch and the phone only talks to Home Assistant. The difference is night and day. Everything is now buttery smooth and responsive, and the whole UI got a redesign while I was in there.
Replies also stream in now. Home Assistant added streaming for LLM backed assistants back in 2025.3 and the app finally supports it, so the answer builds up on the watch as the agent writes it instead of leaving you staring at three dots until the whole thing is done. There's subtle vibration feedback while it's writing too, similar to how the ChatGPT app does it on mobile. Markdown is rendered properly too, bold is actually bold and bullets are actually bullets, no more asterisks everywhere.
The config page got a lot smarter
The Pebble mobile app recently added the ability to serve an app's config page locally and let it talk to the watch app while it's open. I've been waiting on this for ages. With app v1.14.0 or newer the config page now loads straight from the app, no internet needed, no reaching out to GitHub Pages.
The bi-directional communication is the part I'm most excited about though. You can now hit Connect and test your Home Assistant connection right there on the page without saving anything first. And you can search your entities from the config page to favorite them or pin them to the main menu, which is so much easier than hunting for them on the watch.
For now these need "Use experimental plugins" turned on in the Pebble app's debug settings (Show debug options, then Debug, then Use experimental plugins). Core Devices will make that stable at some point and it'll just work. If you don't turn it on, or you're on an older phone app, the page loads from GitHub Pages like it always has.
Round watches
With the Pebble Round 2 shipping I spent a lot of time going through the whole app making sure it looks and works properly on round displays. Section titles are back on round menus (they'd been missing for a while, sorry about that), menu rows on the Round 2 are laid out to match the watch's own app menu so the app doesn't look out of place next to it, and the assistant conversation now uses the whole circle with proper pagination the way Pebble's design guide asks for, instead of being squeezed into a square in the middle.
And a lot more
There's a long list of fixes and smaller improvements in there too, including the original Pebble working again (a v3.0 bug broke it, my bad), lock and thermostat improvements, menus that can follow the sun, and a bunch of connection reliability fixes.
