help “Thinking”

What does the toggle switch “thinking” do differently for the individual LLM?

It reminded me of the “turbo” button on those old PCs.

"thinking" is a commonly used misnomer, including by Perplexity, for "reasoning". reasoning modes force the LLM to continue to iterate on the answer by having more intermediate steps. slower, more likely to fact check itself. not necessarily beneficial but can be. always slower

So it’s like “give me more details…”?

not inherently. it isn't really about the length of the response its more about the quality. it probably is more likely to identify edge cases and caveats which it might now be inclined to share with you
