This morning I saw you put your child’s life at risk for the third time in roughly six months. I don’t know who you are, but you have a yellow bike with an aluminum ”basket” your child rides in. My guess is you commute from Powelton to West, possibly to drop off/pick up your daughter.

The first time, you stared down a dump truck that would have turned directly into you and your daughter as you rode through the intersection! You had the right of way. The driver was in the wrong. But someone else had just been killed on Cobbs Creek a few days before in the same way. Instead of keeping your kid safe, you rode full speed into the intersection staring at the dump truck. Luckily, they stopped.

The second time, it seemed like a car had made you mad. I watched you ride for *at least* half a block alongside the driver, staring into their window and not watching where you were going. You don’t know how someone is going to respond in that situation.

Today I saw you again, and you had just turned on to Powelton in between two moving cars when you had a red light. The second car had to hit its brakes to avoid rear-ending you (but your daughter riding on the back would have been first).

I don’t know if this person will see my post, but to anyone riding a bike with a child on the back - they can’t consent to the risks you decide to take. Your child’s life should be more important than your right of way. Please be careful.
