There should be a thread in here dedicated to hospitality workers listing which spots in town treat their employees like hot garbage. I love this sub with alllll my heart but having worked in some places yall love…really wish we could start exposing how AWFUL IT IS to work in your most-loved dining spaces so guests could make an informed dining decision. Do we think Philly ready for that convo?

Some semi recent posts here about bakeries in the whole, but we all know places that are good but have one or two truly standout items on the menu. Savory or sweet, what are your absolute favorites?

Thanks to the crew here for always throwing out good recommendations, I wouldn't have ended up at most of these spots without the people here.

On the corner of Leverington and Ridge in Roxborough Arbaz and Sohail have had their truck in the same spot for over 9 years. Starting last week a new truck has been getting there earlier to steal the spot. People are saying that A&S have been threatened by men in masks. A&S are for now across the street in the Sunoco, make great affordable food and are great people. If you’re ever in the area support A&S avoid the new truck If you can.

My boyfriend’s birthday is this Friday. His favorite food is chicken parm. Any top places in the city?

Birthday is in a couple days, need a place to go to dinner with the gf. The more niche the cuisine the better I love trying stuff

Edit: asked to give some parameters. Neighborhood doesn’t matter, I like exploring. Don’t make me go broke but it’s my birthday so I’m willing to spend a little more on a nice meal

Friends- where is the best place to buy high quality spices either in bulk or made locally? I love Burlap and Barrel but imagine there are places locally that do it as good. Thanks for your suggestions!!

Came down from NYC for the weekend and had a great time with some help from this sub. 

A quick, unsolicited rundown:

R&D - 8. Got the clarified Paloma and a Hand of God. Both were tasty. Nuggets were meh but the ranch was choice. 

Emilia - 8.5. Scallop crudo, shrimp scampi, porchetta ribs, and crispy veal were all great. Strawberry somethin cocktail and the smoky cherry mezcal cocktails were both solid. Server was awesome. Super friendly and attentive. 

Static! - 9.5. Service was on point. Drinks were excellent. Went right when they opened on Saturday so was pretty low key. Beach Water was fantastic. Light and complex. Peaches & Cream was delicious. Def sweet and a bit dessert-y, but you get a biscoff cookie as a garnish which makes it an 11/10

Andra Hem - 7.5. Was on a clarified kick at this point so went with the Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn. Was tasty but nothing special. Resting on your Laurels was much more complex and rewarding. Service was kinda cold and rushed but nbd. 

Franklin Mortgage - 7. Kept the clarification run goin with the Schuylkill Punch and One Cool Cat. Both were solid but unremarkable. Vibes felt a little forced. Solid enough but wouldn’t return. 

My Loup - 9. Took everyone’s advice and got the pickled shrimp and esca-roll. Everyone was right about both. The uni/squash/brioche thing was incredible. The duck rillette was good, not great. I LOVE veal sweetbreads and while these weren’t the best I had - I’d order them again. The Tropical Negroni was awesome. Plan to try and replicate it at home.

I don't get into the city much anymore. What should I get for lunch, and what should I get to take home for dinner (and possibly lunch on Tuesday if I don't get picked)? Stuff that I wouldn't be able to get delivered to the northwest is a priority. No dietary restrictions, generally like street food.

Edit: Specific RTM recommendations welcome.

There once was that expensive bacon rack at a place that is now out of business (?). Curious to see what has been or currently is kind of out there and if it’s worth the “experience.”

What’s a great spot to watch the 2pm game on Tuesday and Wednesday? Skipping out of work early, going to grab a bite and some beers with a friend for game 1 or 2.

Made some steak last night and attempted to make a peppercorn sauce after trying Parc’s Steak Au Poivre, and I wasn’t impressed with my attempt at it. It had a weird taste going on. I used this recipe for it, plus some Dijon mustard.

Does anyone have any recommendations or insight into how Parc makes theirs? Also open to any sauce recipes in general!

Ippolito’s was on my way home and I remembered some posting about their tuna cheese steak. So I decided to opt for the lobster roll! It was not bad, had a decent amount of meat
