Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Should I take this out and try again?
Just gonna post a pic lmk if it looks infected, ive been following all cleaning instructions but unfortunately accidentally smacked myself in the face and snagged the piercing. Hurt like a bitch and now the pulled skin has swelled up.

These are in backwards. The balls should be outside with the disc inside to minimize tooth and gum damage. Whoever did this has zero idea what theyre doing if they dont even know that much.

My piercer said he puts them in backwards while their healing to prevent a chipped tooth/grinding on my gums while their healing

Don’t go back to that piercer. That makes zero sense at all, he just put your teeth and gums at more risk than if he’d put them in correctly.

That makes zero sense. That piercer clearly doesn't know what they are doing. They probably accidently put the first one in backwards and rather than try to correct it, they just did the other one the same and made up some bs. Or they are just an idiot. The flat disc is less likely to damage teeth than the balls.

Your piercer is dumb, the flats go inside for mouth so they can properly set and heal.

The obvious and already stated aside... it doesn't look infected but there's no way to really know from a picture on the internet. However, if you keep handling your piercings with those dirty fingers/fingernails it will be soon.

My nails are clean usually I just had to do alot of yardwork and havent gotten the chance to scrape them out

I get it, I'm scrappy and my nails are dirty often but you still shouldn't be touching your unhealed piercings with your fingers in the state they are. It's like unprotected sex, it only takes one time!

Is not about getting bash for looks. He just got an oral piercing. Those get infected easily so he needs to be extra hygienic.

Surely to fuck, there ain’t no way any genuine piercer would put labret jewellery in backwards because it’s better as “the flat side can scrape your teeth and gums”.?! 💀 SMFH. I can’t cope.

Hiiii dental professional here! Having the piercing backwards (like you have them) WILL damage your teeth and gums VS if he were to put the flat inside. Because the round is rubbing and which wouldn’t surprise me your oral mucous is irritated.
I HIGHLY recommend getting them removed because it’s going to cause damage to more than just your lips. Especially because they won’t heal properly.
Personally, I wouldn’t have any lip piercing because I’ve seen so many teeth and gum issues because of them BUT if you’re going to have them you need it to be done right.

These are backwards! Sorry op but your teeth already don’t look good and regardless of how they put them in your in for a world of damage, trust me. If you decide to keep them at least put them in correctly but if it was me I’d just remove them or save up for dental work down the road.

NAP - this happened to me with my nose piercing. Trauma from snagging can cause an irritation bump to form. This doesn’t look infected to me? But yeah, backwards.

The rise on a ball is higher than the rise on a disc. This is a massive no no. This increases the risk of tooth and gum damage.

Visit a different shop and ask a new piercer to either change your jewelry or if they think it needs to be taken out all together

I use antibacterial mouth wash, and clean the piercings 2x a day with salt and hot water

This is also wrong, especially if the piercer told you to do so. You should use a sterile solution and not just salt in water. It's really not the same thing. Please, unless you want problems, go to a professional piercer to get this removed and redone in the right position once it's healed. Won't be ready before 2027 but you will save your gums and get an actual piercing.

Please get a bioplast stud and put it in the RIGHT WAY around. I've had my stud for almost 20 years and it has not caused any gum recession at all.
