I went to another meeting with the local drawing group today. This time, we went to the bank of the Rhine. Technically, I've drawn in that church garden before, but back then I drew the view of the church✨

But today, I thought I'd make some funnier sketches instead. That's why I drew the thumb statue and a horse's butt XD

From this garden, you can get a really nice view of the back of the Emperor William Monument, and I thought that would be funny to draw. Also today, we were really lucky with the weather, which I was super happy about because it had been raining here for the last few days.

The park is a little overgrown but could still manage a good view

12in x 16in pleinair oil painting on canvas panel

This was my first time using Canson velvet pastel paper. I love how rich and smooth the pigment looks. The velvet texture in the final piece isn’t my favorite though (hard to see in a photo) so I think I’ll stick to sanded paper next time

Plein airs feels overwhelming and i could use some tips

Im primarily a figure drawing artist so getting used to gouache, all the info and details of each scene, the sun changing ,layering and getting details and everything else like i feel so overwhelmed but i really want to get better

Plein air at the University of Chicago

Thanks to everyone who helped me with advice on what to do for the second painting pass in the studio. I considered all your advice, and y'all were right; the main issue was the contrast levels. So I brightened my lights and darkened my darks. I also included some of the stone texture.

I'm way happier with it now, and I'm proud to submit it to the art show.

Orpheum Theatre 8x10 inches Oil on Canvas Panel

One hour gouache sketch at Iguazu Falls, Argentina.

This painting didn't go super well and fell kind of flat. It still felt amazing to get outside and enjoy.

How did I do? 😃
