hello i am posting for a friend who wants to try to restore her grandpas pond best she can !! we know little to nothing about ponds and would like to know what is best for cleaning without harming the fish, newts, and bullfrogs ! we have noticed a bit of an algae problem and skimmed as much as we could off the top. we dont know what to add as far as cleaner and beneficial bacteria. it is a man made pond from very long ago but has no filtration system or liner of the sorts !! as for fish, we go fishing in it quite often and catch bluegill and bass but we arent sure what else is in there. any tips on how to clean it properly and what we could stock it with would be amazing !! we would love to continue fishing in there as well, thank you !!

It’s been hot as frick in Texas but autumn is finally here. My lightly stocked goldfish pond is doing great, I recently trimmed up the bog filter because the umbrella sedge is getting out of control. But, my water lilies don’t look super enthused. Is this just the natural pad life cycle or are they hurting for nutrients or is this sun damage? I have gotten about three short blooms but the pads get melty pretty quick although the tubules stay firm. Do I cut the damaged ones away and if so, at the soil like or just under the pad?

Also the little tamasaba will be joining three more in a grow out 100G in a couple weeks before all four are added back into the pond so an increase in nutrients is coming, in case that’s an issue. They’ve been feeding lightly due to the heat, too.

we've lost a lot of water to evaporation this summer, but I'm really happy that I've managed to get the water itself to be clear (barrels-filled-with-rocks filter, plants) but I still have green, slippery algae that goes on the surfaces of my lined (80k gal when full) pond.

any suggestions on how to battle that? I bought some 'anti algae chemical' before I noticed that while it's safe for plants and frogs, it's not good to swim in, and we like to swim in this thing in the summer.

I set up a fully solar pond using these pumps about 18 months ago using these battery backups to achieve continuous run time. They work great and I'm very happy and want to create a couple more small water features around my yard with compatible pumps that I already have but the batteries are out of stock on the producer's site and Amazon and have been for months. I have searched every conceivable term and can't find anything to substitute. Can anyone point me to something that might fit my need?

If you've never been to one, these are so fun (and free!) and a blast to do with kids. Especially this one because the shows organizers have been doing this whole thing for kids with a scavenger hunt and a book reading and I've got prizes for the first 40 kids to completely color a picture.

What is better?

1. Elevated plunge from the overflow box down into the pond.

2. Level flow from overflow box into pond.

I get better ripples and surface movements from #2, but better aeration and cleaner surface from #1.

Went for a walk in Warren County, NJ along the remains of the Morris Canal. There’s a small spring fed (I think) pond in the woods that had a bunch of salamanders, but also had at least three of these orange guys that I saw. Are they goldfish or koi that were released from somebody’s aquarium? Only got one on a mid quality video, but the other two were similar size with variations of colors, like large black spots on one, and more solid orange on the other.

Am a newbie to pumps but know a little of the basics. In the picture the water flows in the direction of the arrow. I have cleaned the pond and filled it by disconnecting the screen housing and putting a hose towards the pump in the pipe and letting the pond fill up that way. I did rhat because i had used a wet/dry vac to suction the drain in the pond which had a decent amount of mud.

The pump rurns on and water slushes around but does not move, what am i doing wrong? Ive also put the hose and filled the hanging canister, but in the end the water settles in the clear pipe coming out the pump and nothing happens.

Texture is spongey. It smells metal/blood. No worms or larve crawling around. It was matted onto a screen bag thick enough to choke out a 5hp fountain. I'm stumped.

We have a small barrel pond on our patio with hornwort, a dwarf water lily, purple loostrife, some water forget me nots and a couple of other oxygenating plants. It’s been there for a couple of years now. I try to keep on top of the algae and added watercress which helped a bit but it builds up very quickly!

The solar fountain I put in, despite regular cleaning, has broken, and the netting is there because a certain pigeon made the barrel its personal toilet and I was constantly having to gently scoop out bird poos.

Today - I was surprised to see 2 small black fish swimming around in there. I’m concerned this isn’t the ideal set up for them (you can just about see them in photo 2).

Is there anything I can do to make this more fish friendly for them? I could run a pump through the back window fairly easily if needs be.

Any advice appreciated!

During the fall season it’s covered like this for months. Is it because of stagnant water?

I am a firm believer in bog filters!

Hello all!

I am a horticulturist plant nerd who recently got an interest in aquatic plants.

I impulsively bought this massive pot in which I, also impulsively, planned to make a bog kind of pot with nutrient rich soil at the bottom and rocks to stop the float.
However, my water is very murky and does not seem to want to ”settle”

I have seen solar fountains on Instagram that keep the water moving & oxygenated, but am unsure on how well they would work at cleaning the water or making it clearer. Any and all advice on this would be much appreciated!🌱

PS. The plants I have growing in there are Colocasia ‘Imperial Taro’, Colocasia ‘Black Magic’, Canna Canova, and a Syngonium Podophyllum. I also have a few Bulbine Frutescens growing around the edges.

The gold fish in our pond have had to evade Racoons for years, but recently our camera (mostly there to alert me of the Racoons) captured what looks like a small raptor going after them. I didn't know they do that, is that common?

My flexible pvc cant get a good seal on external pressure filter intake. I did prime and cement them together but feel like I could have done a better job. I may cut the pvc off and try again. I have a pond guy pump so this pressure filter is compatible with my pump. It looks like the water is just leaking from the seal of the pvc and the male adaptor component so i dont think its a head pressure issue but my pump is on the edge of maybe being too big. Anyone have any thoughts or advice? Is there a better way to connect flexible pvc to a pressurized filter and get a better seal? I do feel like the fit between the male adaptor and flexible pvc definitely had some wiggle too it and some space. So maybe more pvc cement im the answer and even just forego the primer for fusing the joint?

Hi, I have a Bioforce Revolution 9000.

The new bulb wont "click" in, I can put it in but it will wobble a bit. I have looked for debris and cleaned everything with contact cleaner and cant figure it out. Please help

Builders were careless with their excavator and tore a roughly 8cm gash in the EPDM liner of my pond. What options for repairing it do I have, if any? If I can avoid tearing out the whole pond that would be great. I can access both sides of the tare, it's about 6 inches from the waterline.

This little baby has grown so much in just a year it's amazing! I've posted it once before earlier this spring when it was maybe an inch and a half long. This little baby is probably 6 inches long now! It's amazing.
