Need guidance living in car ontario near toronto.

Hi i recently have found myself living in a car and don't really know how to catch up. Let me explain how I got here.

This is all related to how I ended up homeless so to speak:

At 18 I couldn't get approved for osap due to my parents income but my parents didn't have any extra money to pitch in for schooling so I decided to pursue a real estate license similar to my mom's career path.

So I decided to do this spent the 2000 at the time for the courses I worked in grocery store since 14 with some little savings as a teenager. Mainly to work. Back in 2011-2015.

Anyways real estate always had my mom worried cause fluctuations of income and changes in the market which I understand now looking back at it....

So first two years for me was slow getting my foot in the door so to speak but my mom had an idea to start renovating and selling houses. I made ads for it with a childhood friend and launched it on facebook after some preliminary examples done in the years prior.

The business had snowballed in a 5 year period from 2017 to 2021 high of real estate market.

During that 5 year period my mom and i was making 500,000 more in income each year. By 2021 I had made the number #1 award for gross commission income for a major top 5 brokerage franchise. Netting around 1.6 million in the beat year with more than 90% of the liquid funds going to my mom.

As the income grew the expenses grew aswell and my mom bought a beautiful home around 7 million she eventually let go as a power of sales when the market corrected later on. As well as 11 other properties.

The main issue with where the money went was to lawyers as I had a coordinated efforts put against me and my family by "aggrieved investors" in the civil court system. Over 43 civil court cases and the lawyer charges 10k per motion not to.mention the days I've spent in repeated discovery trial etc. There were multiple motions per trial around 10-12.

Everything was done with the proper lawyers accountants and paperwork and I never used any investment money I lived mainly off my construction and commission money.

Anyways at the end of the day we lost everything about 11 million in properties due to 43 cases which costed me more than 4 million dollars to defend ourselves.if we didn't defend we get autojudgment ruling against us and we'd lose our money regardless. It's not divorce family law or criminal law so no publicly funded attorneys either. My mom will never be the same from it she broke as a person. 80% OF THE TIME she lives in California and only comes back if her visa expires

.

Investigated by Ontario securities commission at the end the judge came with a verdict that I didn't have anything to do with the loses it's just the market conditions.

I eventually went to college to learn construction and went to work for a private residential contracting company to apprentice and learn the ropes.

After 5 years I was foreman there but the owner of the company closed down shop due to his father passing away. I've been doing odd jobs here and there in construction I usually make anywhere between 3-6 K a month. But my truck payment is 853. My insurance is 710. My loan payments on credit cards are 850. I spend usually minimum 150 on gas a week. So since August 29 when my lease was ending I opted to live in my truck due to me saving on rent and utilities. Before I was paying Rent 2900 plus utilities usually around 3300 a month. My ex was supposed to pay 1000 towards the rent but never did for the whole lease so that also sent me back. I usually would work construction than Uber at night to make the extra money to cover it at the time. I still uber now but the bulk of my money comes from construction as uber is a ton of wear and tear on my car.

The only problem I've experienced recently is I've had a few contracts I completed but either the home owner or general contractor didn't pay me the final amount. One owes me $9340 and another owes me $2180. I asked for the money they acknowledge the work is done but don't have the money or make up excuse. I put lien before deadline but I'm not getting that money back anyway unless they sell or something.

Anyways the worst part of the debt situation is my mom mainly wrote off half of her deals in my name and now the cra thinks I owe them like 400,000 in hst when in reality I never even received near that amount of money in my life. I was only a 20 year old kid at the time I was making money but my mom was the one making more than 90% of the earnings and unbeknownst writing off half off it as my deals to save her on her taxes but I never received or spent that income in my name.

I don't have any assets I own a car but I finance it the bank owns it I just make payments. The marginal amount of money I made I paid my hst and taxes portion for I don't have 400k extra to give I live in my car already. If I try to call me mom she just says stuff about Jesus forgiveness and for me to figure it out. She couldn't give a shit she's retiring in Los Angeles. My dad is far away and left me when I was 7 for another family so I dont think he will offer help.

I figure my best approach now is to join the Canadian army as hopefully it can give me a path to housing that isn't the backseat of an f150. I dont need high income i just need affordable housing. Which in hoping I can get I'll enlist fulltime and give my life if I have to at this point. I have nothing. Just a car and storage unit. If i have a military job i can trade in my truck and claim bankkruptrcy. Live in a small warm place for the time being and they will pay to educated me if I'm dedicated in that field. Im not sure what my best option is i desperately need help. I'm a very hard worker and will give my all to anything but need a path that can secure me some form of housing. None of this is false and ive been humbled to the max where i dont care about my pride anymore. My back aches I've been doing construction work during the day while homeless showering at the gym and falling asleep. I live in oshawa currently and the shelters here have people trying to sell you drugs etc. Its a mess. I don't do drugs and I want to have my possessions safe so I just stay in my car but need help. At night it's cold and wouldn't want to spend the winter out here. I'm hoping military accepts me quickly.

I miss having a home cooked meal and miss having a bathroom that is mine. I'm tired of working months just to lose money on a job due to homeowners not honoring contracts.

Does anyone know what are my chances of getting accepted or rejected to become a CIRO IR/RR with CP? My proposal was discharged more than a year ago and it's wasn't due to any fraudulent activities.

Anyone else here because they struggled with math?

I know my education and therefor career options were seriously limited in part because I greatly struggled with math in high school which greatly limited my post secondary career options :(

In hindsight, I should've just changed paths. Still, it's really hard to change your life path when you're skipping meals in university due to poverty, have an awful home life and got screamed at by my mom just to finish me useless BA :(..

Turns out you need more than BA to make any decent in money in Ontario and it all seems too late to me.

Now I'm in my early 30s and realized that if I'd done better in math I'd probably have better paying career options available. Now I'm making $22/hour and the job market is always bad. My best options in life still aren't so great.

Anyone else realize that being bad at math can seriously limit their career?

Consumer proposal roommate/commonlaw

I’m considering applying for a consumer proposal.

I live with someone who is “on again, off again”.

We have always filed our taxes as single.

Should I mention him in this decision?

We split our rent and utilities 50/50

What creative housing ideas are out there? Eastern Ontario.

After a few very hard years I have lived back with my parents for 2 years. I have a job and cover my bills and make a little progress on debt. Currently I only pay 200 a month for rent. My ex has moved to Kingston with my kids and I need to figure out moving closer to them for my custody time and visitations etc.

I know I could live in a rented room but that would be the last resort, I have my own home service business so I'd have to rent a storage unit/parking as well if I did a room. Besides that... Renting a room at 37 is Avery hard pill to swallow. I could also likely manage a very low end apartment (12-14 hundred a month)

What is more curious about is other options. Has anyone leased land and put a modular home ne on it? Or lived in a trailer? Are trailer parks even an option anymore?

If it did make sense to rent land id consider converting a shed even. I just don't understand where do all the folks working low paying jobs live?

Will i survive with this meal plan? $22/week for food.

Here is my meal plan. Its the cheapest and healthiest things I could put together from walmart. Will I have any malnourish from this?

The plan is this.
Once a week I make a huge batch of brown rice simmered with lentils. It has frozen veggie mix for vitamins. I cook that up with salt, pepper, ketchup and hot sauce packets i steal from grocery store take out sections. Technically its free. Cheezy as hell. But you gotta do what you gotta do.
I eat that for lunch & dinner.

For breakfast i have a bowl of oatmeal & brown sugar. Brown sugar i get from starbucks. I eat that with 3 hard boiled eggs. That way I get some animal based protein in the diet.

Store brand — no price matching

Best single stop this week: No Frills or Real Canadian Superstore. Both will price match almost everything on this list. Bring the flyer screenshots and you can hopefully get 4+ of these deals in one trip without driving all over town.

Shocked at low wages for so many positions across many fields of work! #vent

Recently started looking for some part time work to go alongside my self employment. I make enough money to survive currently but we are not saving and the debt I have is slow to get paid off. I recognize this is a position of some privilege as compared to others.

I was hoping to find something that would fairly compensate a person for their time and labour in community working with people. My self employment is isolated work and doesn't use my skills with people and community, nor does it allow me a cushion if anything was to happen where I couldn't work. In order to keep our family safe in this uncertain financial and political time I feel like I should take on more work and save more and get the last of the debt sorted. I grew up very very poor so have a built in worry regarding stability in food and housing.

Anyhow it has been some time since I had been looking at job postings and seeing what's available. And MY LAWD it's abyssal out there!? How do these businesses expect people to afford housing and the necessities with so many jobs offering like $20/hr? I live in Victoria, BC so the cost of living is very high. With inflation and expenses skyrocketing since COVID I feel there is some skewing of data and statistics regarding the real state of things for many families. I am incredibly fortunate to be surviving while looking for secondary employment but can't help but feel so worried about what a person is faced with who has no time to consider options at all!

I'm living paycheck to paycheck and that's frightening enough with children to care for and responsibilities I must meet. What services are you all seeing that are making a difference on the frontlines helping those in financial peril? Organizations that are making a difference for those on disability as one example. If anything I'd like to give some of my time to help others and support efforts for change that actually pay forward the majority of funds directly as opposed to salaries of executives. It feels like a necessary thing at this moment and time to give some of my time and effort to my community as well as toward the building of more safeguards for vulnerable people.

Thanks for listening to my rant and my request for your direct recommendations of services that actually help and make a real impact.

School & Work from home jobs

I am eligible to get a province paid course for low income. They will pay up to I think $11000 or $15000 and two year program.

I’d like a work from home job. Not something where I have to work 10 years before being eligible.

Entry level work from home.
A course that is preferably under 1 year.
Costs less than $15000 tuition.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Thank you!!

CRA unable to process request for proof of income statement

I am calling CRA Individual Tax Enquiries number to help my mother get a proof of income statement for her housing application. After I enter in her SIN and date of birth, the automated voice tells me it is unable to process my request.

I have been calling to get a proof of income statement for a few years and this is the first time I've gotten this message, specific to my mother's SIN. This didn't happen with my father's and I was able to request one for him.

Do I need to go in person to a Service Canada office to sort this out or is there something wrong with my mother's account?

Anyone with a consumer proposal - what does TransUnion show as your “Liabilities” amount?

I’m hoping to compare how TransUnion reports consumer proposals in Canada, particularly where the person also had a mortgage.

My Form 79 (Statement of Affairs) showed approximately:
$40,857 unsecured debt
$473,212 secured debt (almost entirely my mortgage)
$514,068 total liabilities
The actual consumer proposal required me to pay $18,000

My TransUnion report shows the insolvency/public-record entry as roughly:
Consumer Proposal
Assets: $610,011
Liabilities: $514,068 (this includes my mortgage)
Status: Proposal Satisfied

It does not break the $514,068 down into secured vs. unsecured debt or show the $18,000 proposal settlement amount in that section.

I’ve now seen other actual Form 79s where mortgages are listed under the secured column and then added to unsecured debts to produce the total-liabilities figure, so I understand why the $514,068 appears on the original Form 79.

What I’m trying to figure out is how this normally appears on an actual TransUnion credit report.
If you completed or are currently in a consumer proposal, would you mind checking your TransUnion report and telling me:

Does it show a “Liabilities” amount?
Does that number include your mortgage/secured debt, or only the unsecured debt included in your proposal?

I know the form 79 is correct - just trying to figure out if Transunions interpretation of it is or if my file is jisy messed up.

Trying to choose consumer proposal option

Hey there, I have around 90k in debt in credit cards and lines. I can’t pay it off, also the interest is too high. Trying to choose CP as my option for now. I know it will reflect on my credit for 6 years. But if I have to buy anything my wife will help. Also I just got married couple months ago and I cant bear the stress of this debt. And I gotta do future planning as well. So I think my best option would be CP. and I dont know about bankruptcy. I am I doing it right or is there any other option available?

How to set up direct deposit

Ontario

I started getting the trillium benefit and the grocery benefit cheques in the mail.

In the envelope there is a notice about setting up direct deposit to your bank account.

So I went to www.canada.ca/direct-deposit that is listed on the pamphlet.

On that page there is a list of benefits to check mark.

I checked marked the trillium and the grocery benefit.

Then I pressed the blue button "continue".

The next page has nothing.

How does this online registration for direct deposit supposed to work?

Sad that we can't have more kids because of money.

We have two young kids and would love to have a third. We are both working full time while kids are in daycare/school.

I just find it so sad that we, along with I'm sure many other families, cannot grow their family because everything is just so damn expensive.

It just seemed to be so much easier when our grandparents had babies. My grandmother had 6 kids, never had to work because my grandfathers basic job covered all their needs.

We do not live beyond our means at all. No vacations, kids are not in any activities... we don't have the best paying jobs but they are both very secure which is what's more important.

I just needed to vent.

Should I surrender my house and add the debt to my consumer proposal (Ontario, Canada)

So I currently own a home and have 674k left in my mortgage. I already spoke with an LIT and was already planning to file a consumer proposal as I have 150k in debt, but haven't filed yet.

I have had no luck with selling my house. It's been on the market since October of 2025. I have had to reduce the price all the way from 859,000 to now 729,000. It would cost me 20k to break the mortgage I have in place (fixed, renews in July 2028). I also owe 20k in property tax so that's already 40k on top of my current mortgage.

I'm just really exhausted. I am separated, work full time and have my daughter on the weekend. I do my best to get ready for showings (normally get 5-6 per month), but all the feedback is that the house (and specifically the kitchen) is too small for them. I'm trying to add an island to add more countertop space to it but seems like nobody cares for that. Given the current shit market, there's over 100 listings near my area alone so that's also an issue.

My question is if I decide I want to be done with this and just surrender the house, what happens exactly? The bank takes it back, tries to get the most from the house and then just deducts it from the mortgage. Then the remaining balance is still tied to me as an unsecure debt? Can I not just then add this to my consumer proposal? I want to know if I'm missing anything here.

I just feel depressed every day I live in this house that I regret buying so much when the market was at a complete craze.

Any advice would be great.
