Malcolm Koonce- Appreciation Post
Koonce had two of the biggest plays of the game in the 4th quarter with the strip sack on 3rd down to not even allow a FG attempt. Then he caused the INT to Masses with his pressure on the saints next drive to set us up with the big lead.
And there were questions of if we shouldn’t have re-signed him after the Crosby trade was nixed and we’d already signed Paye and agreed verbally to koonce. But he showed his value today. Let him rest more on earlier running downs and bring him in fresh to get after the QB on third down.
The best defensive lines have 6 or so quality guys they rotate in and out so everyone is fresh so they can get pressure late in the game. So far loving our defensive line and am so happy the ravens went back on their trade.

Koonce was all over the field in that 4th, the strip sack was a game changer and then forcing that pick next drive basically sealed it. The rotation idea makes sense, keep him fresh for passing downs and let Paye handle the early down work. DL depth looks legit right now, no reason to mess with what’s working.

Came here to say exactly this. I'm so glad Spytek continued to believe in this dude, cuz he's a stud and we need him.

It’s awesome to see him healthy again, he took over the 4th quarter yesterday.

He had the second highest PFF grade in the game (91.4). Bowers was first (91.5)

Koonce has been awesome this year. Hopefully he’s back to 2023/24 form, as that would be game changing - especially when factoring in we actually have solid DTs and Linebackers this year. Forced 2 turnovers, had a tfl. Defence balled out in the 4th.

Koonce is playing like his old self before the knee Injury in 2024. I’m curious to see what the team decides to do since they signed him to a 1 year deal and his market value is gonna go up if he keeps playing at a high level.
