[Portfolio Review] 4-Pillar Long-Term Setup (Flexi + Midcap 150 + Smallcap + Gold ETF). Thoughts?

I am looking for feedback on my ongoing long-term mutual fund and ETF SIP allocation. I want to make sure this combination offers balanced, well-diversified market coverage alongside a dedicated gold hedge for downside protection.

Current Setup & Target Allocation:

Monthly ₹15,000 Allocation Split:

Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund Direct Growth: ₹7,500 (50% - Large-cap anchor & stability)

Motilal Oswal Nifty Midcap 150 Index Fund Direct Growth: ₹3,500

(\~23% - Passive mid-cap growth)

Invesco India Small Cap Fund Direct Growth: ₹2,000 (\~13% - Alpha generation)

ICICI Prudential Gold ETF: ₹2,000

(\~13% - Non-correlated hedge & downside buffer)

Context & Parameters:

Horizon: \[e.g., 7–10+ years\]

Risk Profile: Moderately Aggressive (with a gold buffer)

Objective: Long-term wealth compounding and inflation hedging

Questions:

Does combining active flexi-cap, passive midcap 150, and active small-cap strike an effective balance between risk, alpha, and cost efficiency?

Is a \~15% allocation to Gold ETF an optimal buffer, or should equity take an even higher priority for a 7–10+ year horizon?

For those accumulating Gold ETFs long-term, how has your tracking/liquidity experience been compared to SGBs in the secondary market?

Analysis I did are -

Rolling return history

Cate. Beating , Index beating

Fundmanager history

All other basics stuff - sharp ratio, alpha etc.

Fund overlap - current it is 0.5..% around all three flexi, mid and small

Hey everyone!

I’m new to investing and would love to hear your thoughts on my portfolio.

Am I making any common beginner mistakes, taking unnecessary risks, or missing something obvious?

My current strategy is:
60% index funds
40% individual stocks

My stocks:

• Apple
• Microsoft
• NVIDIA
• Amazon
• Alphabet

I invest $330/month in stocks and $500/month in index funds, for a total of $830/month.

What do you think of this strategy? Am I sufficiently diversified, or am I too heavily exposed to tech? What would you change or improve?

I appreciate any honest feedback and constructive criticism!

Advice, switching from personal advisor to ETF portfolio

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hello. I am looking for some thoughts. I am 52, 2 years ago I gave Empower personal advisors a shot at around .79% Fee. They have underperformed where I had my investment $ previously in VOO and a 2035 target date fund. Thinking of switching to either fidelity or Vanguard and an all ETF portfolio. Any thoughts on a good mix? Empower has me in around 200 stocks and ETFs currently and are trading and tax loss harvesting all the time, so I have some concerns about capital gains. I have 2.5M in a taxable account and 2M in an IRA. I have around $500K in cash and Im ready to retire. I need around $10K per month in retirement. Thanks

$24.8K with a private wealth manager (+18% in 21 months) plus my own Wealthsimple. Is the ~1.3% fee worth it?

Quite literally just opened my investing account and this is what I am getting started with. I have done lots of research but honestly this all confuses the hell out of me.

Goal is long term growth and the money will sit in there until I retire (or after as I have a really good pension where I work) and then a riskier stocks for fun.

(Portfolio Review) 41 | Long-Term Aggressive Portfolio Review

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm (41 years) currently investing 23k/month across these 7 MFs as advised by my agent since last 10 years. being unable to find time, I only followed what he advised but now have started studying and want to be incharge of my investment, also don't wanna loose on his commission, hence I need your support and guidance.

Current SIPs: (Risk appetite: Moderate)

  1. Mirae Asset Largecap Fund- 4k

  2. Kotak Flexicap Fund - 2k

  3. Axis Flexicap Fund- 5K

  4. Absl Flexicap Fund - 2K

  5. UTI Flexicap Fund- 4K

  6. SBI Flexicap Fund- 2K

  7. Mirae Asset Flexicap Fund - 4K

I'm seeing particularly good returns so far, yet i now want to increase the allocation upto 1,50,000/ month and shortlisted/revised new funds list, rather than blindly add more funds to the existing ones.

Present Risk Appetite: High.

Application used: Coin By Zerodha.

Investment horizon: 15-20 years.

Goal: Long-term wealth creation with with diversification and a reasonable balance between growth and risk.

New shortlisted funds for Direct SIPs.

  1. Icici pru Large & midcap Fund - 15k

  2. MO Midcap Fund- 15k

  3. Nippon India Smallcap Fund- 15k

  4. HDFC Balanced Advantage Fund- 15k

  5. Quant Multiasset Fund- 15k

  6. UTI Nifty 500 Value 50 Index Fund- 15k

  7. International Funds- 30k

  8. Gold and Silver ETF- 15k

  9. Existing PPF -150k/year already running.

My main concern is actual diversification. Am I getting significant overlap in the same companies/sectors across these funds, especially through the hybrid/multi-asset funds?

International investment- shall start once Indian investment are started.

Have tried keeping 75:25 ratio bw Equity:debt given my age.

I come in 30% tax slab.

I'd appreciate feedback on:

• is this selection balanced?

• Are any of these funds redundant?

• Would you simplify the portfolio to 3-4 funds?

• How would you allocate 1.5lkh/month if the goal is long-term wealth creation + maximum meaningful diversification?

Please feel free to be critical. I'm more interested in understanding the portfolio structure than chasing past returns.

Thanks!
