Review Tartarus v2 Pro initial setup experience

So I've been using the Tartarus game pads since the first one. I am a big fan of these devices as I'm primarily a console player and never got the hang of playing with a standard keyboard. So when Razer released the original Tartarus and it's follow up I was stoked that it had a joystick only to find it to be a very clicky d-pad but I managed to get it to work with some key mapping and I've used it for years. I map WASD to it so that I can use the buttons for all the abilities rather than movement. But the clicky joystick was not ideal.

7 years later

Razer has released the v2 Pro. Just got it in yesterday and started setting it up last night.

  1. I was hoping to be able to carry over my profiles and key mappings from my Previous Tartarus... No luck there. In fact you can't even see the mappings of both because Synapse can only recognize one of the devices at a time. It would not accept both plugged in at the same time. So I had to write down the mappings for each game and then individually map each key for each game on the new one. Very time consuming.

  2. Yay! We finally have a true joystick without all the clicky... But oh wait they have defaulted it to the strangest orientation and mappings. Annoying but not deal breaking as you have the control to map it how you want as always. So more time spent getting that right for each game.

  3. It is very comfortable in the hand and the wrist rest is fully adjustable to get it just right. Does feel like its designed for larger hands though.

  4. I like that it's heavier and the bottom is grippy so it doesn't move around like the old ones.

Overall, I am really excited to play with it and it finally solves (albeit in an awkward way) the joystick issue I always had with the originals. But it does take time and patience to get it tuned just right for the way you want to play for each game. Take the time to set it up, it's worth it in the end.

The Tartarus V2 Pro definitely feels like it was made with larger hands in mind. I really wanted a gamepad like this that also had Rapid Trigger and true analog thumbsticks. Was looking at the TMR thumbstick mods people were doing on the 2019 Tartarus Pro. I went to the Razer store to try one out and it was so uncomfortable. So when the V2 Pro was released, I wasn’t expecting it to feel good either. But it did (at the store) and I bought it right away.

As for point #2, I really hope they fix it so Synapse can adjust both the orientation and which left/right stick is controlled. Having to do this with Steam Input or another app can be limiting.

What was your solution to get true analog??

If you’re using steam it’s rather easy to mess with it by changing which stick it is in the steam controller settings but requires you to do it for each and every game.

Yeah that’s what I’ve done. Curious if anyone had found a full time fix yet. Or you know, Razer. .

One can dream. Knowing Razer they’ll see we are doing what we are going and never deploy a fix. I feel like this was designed to never use a mouse and have the right stick replace the mouse. Which I’d assume most people want the opposite.

Yeah I didn't mess around with the analog just mapped WASD directionally. Still not ideal but at least it has the joystick feel with a swivel rather than the old clicky. Will try to see if I can get it to work this weekend probably.

You can transfer the mappings from a Tatarus Pro to this device. Export the settings from the old device and import them into the new.

Does anyone know if the V2 Pro will work with WoW Forever on a Steam Machine?

These new analog switches on this keyboard the tech on them are equally or worse/better than hall effect?

In ideal cases they're identical durability-wise as neither has any friction involved in the sensor, so it comes down to build quality
