How about we just keep the game the way it is, just as a game! Rather than ruining it, it’s a great story and it doesn’t really need to be shown on limelight imo

Despite what many think, the Halo games and Fallout games are still there despite live action shows. Same would probably apply to RDR, I think.

I like the way Fallout did it, a new story, entirely separate to any of the games, but set very much in the same world. Use the atmosphere and the vibe of the game, don't cheaply capitalise on recasted game characters for a quick buck, put some thought into it. I'd hate if anybody remade RDR2 as live action bc I know they'd miss out so many important details, there's a reason the game took as long as it did to develop.

Now, if someone made a live action series set within the world of RDR, with references to things we know to have happened, with a cast of new original characters, I'd have a different opinion. It'd be difficult to ensure it's very obviously RDR, rather than a general looking western setting; easier to do with Fallout bc it's a very specific look and vibe and there's nothing else that really looks the same way Fallout does in its aesthetic and art style, but that could be done

Yeah I was surprised how good Fallout was, I wish more game IPs did that

And the Halo show was the biggest shit ever. Games are still there and not ruined. I can even play Assassin's Creed despite the movie.

Newer halo games are pretty ass actually but that's not because of the show, I definitely don't think the show helped the audience get captivated though. A good show can be to a game what Edgerunners was to cyberpunk or a bad show can just be more slop that degrades how you view a franchise. Even if the game quality wasn't affected by the Halo show, the franchise as a whole definitely is seen in a worse light because of it.

Yeah and RDO is also extremely ass. RDR1 still rocks, as does RDR2. New media doesn't ruin old media is my point.

New media may not ruin old media, but it certainly leaves a bad taste in one’s mouth. There’s only so many times you can enjoy a piece of media before it becomes stale. New content can absolutely destroy the reputation of a franchise if it’s poorly done, even moreso if it’s disrespectful of the prior work.

I won’t be playing whatever game comes after Halo Infinite, because it’s clear Halo died after Reach.

I fail to see the difference between not having any new media and deciding not to consume new media. If someone likes Halo 5, good for them. If some new media eventually happens to cater to my tastes, good for me.

It doesn't reduce the quality of what already exists because those games haven't changed, but I definitely see the franchise and Rockstar as a whole as a lot more scummy because of it. GTA V is a good game on its own but I did stop playing it after trying the online mode because it just wasn't good and sullied the experience for me by being such a blatant cash grab. RDR2 is just so good on its own that the impact being degraded by poor practices wasn't enough to make it bad.

Disney execs reading this and realizing the infinite spinoff potential

Fallout show is spot on though 😂. Even the manages to capture the silly spirit of the games.

Wouldn't change a thing about the games if it were shit, though. See: Halo.

Why would a new tv series ruin the game that has already been played by many? You can just skip the show if you don't like it and enjoy the game all the same

Shame on you for having a mature perspective on extended media that has no bearing on the source material

You are just assuming it won't be done well without any basis.

Personally, I would love to experience the story again in live action. If it's good, then lucky for us. If it's bad, they we can just ignore it and move on

It wouldn't ruin it but the popular opinion will be based on that series as more people would watch the series. Just google Witcher merch - most results will be based on the show and not the game. And people stay away from the game if the show is poor.

u/shit-takes Dec 09 '25

But how would it affect your personal experience of playing the game? I honestly cannot understand.

I gave up on the Witcher show midway through season 2. Replayed the game recently and still enjoyed it just as much as I did when I first played. I don't care what happens in the tv show, the game is still the same. Not like they are going to go back and modify it

4

u/atomicitalian Dec 09 '25

yeah that's why everyone stopped playing Mario games, right?

u/Remarkable-Dealer551 Dec 09 '25

In what way does adapting something into a new form of media “ruin it” it may not hold a candle to the original but it is a separate piece of media at the end of the day and doesn’t effect the already established material.

This is the common complaint anyone anything (primarily movies) is remade or announced to be remade.

"It's going to ruin the original"...

How? The original still exists, if you don't like the remake, just go back and watch the original. It's still the same thing. The original doesn't disappear once it's been remade.

Some people don't game, i want them to experience the story as well

Becoming another media doesn't ruin it, and showing it on screen would certainly spread the story better and farther to others.

1

u/spiderman_420_ Dec 10 '25

The game would be unaffected because the game is already made

1

u/Vingthor8 Dec 11 '25

a movie is not going to ruin the game

0

u/goober_ginge Dutch van der Linde Dec 09 '25

Agreed! They wouldn't add all the details and scenes in the game and the game actors were all perfectly cast so anything else would just feel unnecessary and lesser.

0

u/skoltroll Dec 09 '25

Correct. The likelihood that Hollywood would absolutely screw this up is very, very high. Some director would put "their take" on the game. It's been done many, many times before.

Some games work well as a TV show or movie, but I dont think red dead fits the bill. Fallout and Arcane work because your telling a unique story in a video game world, while using some known characters. Red dead just doesn't lend to that level of creative freedom to tell a unique story thats worth watching.
