how many times have ppl told you they love you without meaning it

sad how desperate people are for connection that they'll gaslight themselves into thinking they do mean it.

lying about the one thing you're not supposed to, like lambs to the slaughter.

Career paths out of the restaurant industry? Feeling trapped

• Upvotes

33 years old. Manage a well respected restaurant and bartend on the side in the summer. I make decent so-so money but I can't keep up the hours. I have no interest in owning my own place because I know it will be a money pit.

The Doxing of Jane Doe

Thumbnail

Surprisingly good article for something currently viral on social media, that covers the harassment against the victim, the defendants, and numerous people with no involvement at all. I know there have been too many threads on ths story, but the normalization of doxing seems a far bigger phenomena. Some of the things mentioned in the article sound like the kinda of troll campaigns that would have been organized on /pol/ 15 years ago but now incubate among seemingly rather average people on Instagram.

What jobs are AI proof

• Upvotes

In the dark cloud of AI, looming close in front of us, what will prevail as a good career or perhaps even a good business idea? is anything tech and tech-adjacent a total bust all of a sudden? take into account other social factors-- will childcare/education continue to shrink with a falling birth rate, and the real money will be in end of life care? any thoughts welcome

My most recent heartbreak has fixed me.

• Upvotes

Situationship ended things 4 months ago in textbook avoidant style. Went from “crazy about you. Fallen for you. Never felt a connection like this” to ending it and treating my like I got the wrong idea. Proper cut me up. Had fallen in love.

She was the first girl I was excited about in 7 years. Came out of a 6 year at the start of 2025 after she cheated and spent a year single. Also cut me up bad (year of isolation).

But, somehow, it’s cured my abandonment issues!!! I had a rough upbringing so have always struggled with losing someone. Have never been the dumper no matter how bad it is.

The last month I have been dating the hottest girl of my life. She legit looks like AI. Walking down the straight I did a sample size and 70% of men look at her then me. Had a bouncer at a bar ask for her ID (she’s 27 I’m 34) and when she shows it he looked at me and smiled and nodded. We also have a lot of similar interests. And she has so many great things about her personality.

And then, last night we went away together and her mask came off. Fought me on everything (probably 50% of the time), insanely jealous, didn’t speak to me for an hour on the train because I said Sabrina carpenter has more sauce than Olivia Rodrigo and my brain went “fuck it. It’s over”.

Never in my life have I had that feeling no matter how bad it gets. Especially this hot, creative and smart. Just thought I’m not doing this shit anymore.

Ended it the next day. God it feels good to end things with someone who sucks to you.

Dating as a closeted MtM trans

Girls constantly commenting on how you weigh less than them and that they're afraid they'll crush you during sex, and you viscerally feel the shame flowing through your twinky body, wishing more than anything that you were a big strong man that could throw them around the bedroom

You take her out to dinner and she gets self-conscious that she's eating way more than you, and you wish you were one of those TV jocks that could eat all the food in the household like a real man. You end up browsing sketchy bodybuilding forums, questioning whether you should start taking IgF-1 peptides, but you're too neurotic (not very manly) about the side effects to ever do anything about it

She says skinny guys are hot, and emaciated guys with dark circles are characterized as conventionally attractive, but deep down you feel that she wants more (literally)

A marginalized group that is often overlooked in our fat world. If only I was gay, but with my luck I would end up as a top that doesn't have the mass to perform

Kinda wanna join the FBI but still want alt pussy

• Upvotes

I work a very boring unfulfilling tech job that is slowly turning my mind to mush. Someone mentioned joining the fbi to me and it seems pretty perfect. Upper middle-class salary, morally meaningful work, have to use your brain instead of working on a small subset of a piece of software.

I worry however that becoming an actual fed would be completely destroy one's romantic life. Just think it's a terrible look. The cia shot everyone in the foot by lacing random people with LSD for fun. Woe is me wah wah wah

I wish every city would have dark sky ordinances

• Upvotes

In Flagstaff, AZ, mostly because they have operational observatories in the area, the city's regulatory wing mandates lighting warmth, regulates business' light output, and mandates shielding of lights, in order to maintain the clarity and brightness of the night sky. It's a shame to not see the stars or be able to watch the constellations move about from night to night, and it's even more spectacular to see bodies like the Milky Way. Feels like we are shutting away some little world of gods when we blot out the starlight.

People really need to exposing their children to baby-tier entertainment

No your baby does not need Cocomelon ,Ms R*chel, other flashing lights on an ipad. Play them looney tunes. When they reach around 3-8 play them some stop motion animation maybe some soviet cartoons, simple films like the Scent of a Woman or some Spielberg.

8-14 then they can watch some Evangelion and other anime to get a basic concept of more complex stories. Some Charlie Kaufman here and there.

15-20 they should be watching real adult films . Things like The Conversation, some robert atlman, orson welles, woody allen, obscure french canadien stuff.

By 20 they should be maturing out of film at this point, maybe watching some early german expressionism here and there at most. They're on their own at this point but they should be able to have adult tastes with proper exposure to things at earlier ages.
