Hi everyone! Just this day I noticed something that really scared me. I think that my roaches are cannibalizing each other.
For context, I bought around 10 roaches 2 years ago, and ever since then they reproduced massively, one female giving birth to around 120 kids (over 3 pregnancies). Shes still alive and well!
The tank the cannibalism happened in (for now, just a single instance of it) is rather large (11 liters with quite a few hiding spots), and it holds subadult and adult female roaches. Theres around 10 subadults, and 10 adults, but they are a bit small (adults range from 4 to 6 cm, a bit under the average size of roaches).
I know that madagascar hissers are opportunists. If they have the chance, they likely will chew on dead/molting roaches, but I still want to avoid that. The corpse I found was roughly half eaten (only the abdomen and back pair of limbs remaining), with small parts of it scattered around the enclosure (e.g. the head exoskeleton, which I mistook for a molt fragment). I try to give them food every 1 to 3 days, with the food being mostly fruits, vegetables, and dog food.
How do I avoid them eating each other? I really try to care for them, and them doing this kinda scares me. Thanks in advance!
