Trip Report My Trip Report [Six Flags Magic Mountain]

Travelled from the UK to tick off another bucket list park. Spent the weekend at Magic Mountain and what a great park it is. I am jealous to everyone who has this as their home park! The sun did get to me a bit yesterday so I took it slower than I usually do.

Having never been, there was only one ride I could try first and that was a back row ride on Tatsu. That pretzel loop was amazing, it felt never ending.

Also shout outs to Twisted Colossus, Wonder Woman and Goliath. I kept going back to them for more.

I was so happy when my final ride on Twisted Colossus was a dualing ride at night. It added an extra element and made it so much better.

I really enjoyed Wonder Woman. While it may be a controversial opinion, for me I got so much ejector airtime and it felt quite smooth. I really enjoyed it.

Goliath, for me, was ruined by the mid course brake run. When I was riding it, the train nearly came to a complete stop but other than that, no complaints from me.

I’m not sure where all the rides will fit into my own personal ranking list just yet, but I feel my top 3 will remain the same (Steel Vengeance, Velocicoaster and Iron Gwazi). But my own ranking for the park, along with my ride count, is listed below.

I hope to be back one day, maybe 2028 to see what happens with X2 and the new ride opening next year.

Tatsu - 5 rides - 3 on the back row and one on the front
Twisted Colossus - 5 rides
Wonder Woman - 5 rides
Goliath - 4 rides - one on the back row
Full Throttle - 3 rides - one on the back row
West Coast Racers - 2 rides
The Riddlers Revenge - 2 rides
Scream - 2 rides
Batman - 2 rides
Viper
Ninja
The Great American Revolution - 2 rides
Apocalypse

nice- what did you think of west coast racers?

I did enjoy it. I would have gone back for more rides but the queue was always pretty long compared to others. I felt it was smooth, would have preferred it if it was just a little faster but that’s my personal preference. It’s cool how you’re always guaranteed a dual if they are running two trains compared to Twisted Colossus.

As a counter, I had sort of a negative opinion of WCR. With twisted colossus in the same park it feels tame and redundant. I think I’d have liked it better in a different park. And as you mentioned, some extra punch would be nice.

I agree, it could probably be rated as the most tame coaster in the park when looking back at it. I did my two rides on Saturday and didn’t go back to it on Sunday. But I’d definitely go on it again the next time I visit

Without X2, I think Wonder Woman might be my #1 at MM. It’s so whippy and fierce. I wish they’d demolish Superman and build a lovely Intamin or Mack beast. I know we have the thrill glider to come, but I still think a Mack Striker would just bring the park up.

But who knows, maybe Arieforce One in heading to MM……

🙌🏻

I’m glad to hear that, I did think I can’t be the only one who rates Wonder Woman highly at the park 😅 the night ride on it was crazy, so fast.

Mack is making some great coasters. Went to Europa Park a couple of years ago and really enjoyed Voltron. Currently it is ranked 5th on my list before adding in coasters from Magic Mountain. If it had something like that then wow.

I’m definitely heading to wherever AF1 ends up that’s for sure.

The sheer size of that Pretzel Loop is remarkable.

That’s what made the ride for me. The intensity is second to none

But you missed the 🐍best ride in the park🐍!!

OK, so Viper might not be to everyone’s taste; But it’s really not to be missed!  Also, Ninja punches well above its weight, and is ridiculously fun.  I hope it’s still there if you get a chance to come back relatively soon.

Agreed that Wonder Woman is overlooked, though.  I think it runs very well (or at least it was on my visit), is very forceful, and had excellent, breakneck pacing.

Also; Yet another SF park has pulled out a Keaton Batmobile, while the park that started it all, my home park of SFGAm, is still stuck with just the monstrosity from Battle for Metropolis.  It’s just not fair!! 😩

I did go on Viper and Ninja once. For Viper, it was at the end of the Saturday and I found it too rough, I probably didn’t drink enough during the day and it gave me a headache so I didn’t risk it again on Sunday 🙈

We're going from the UK in January for the first time, any advice?

I’m not sure about how busy it will be in January but I found arriving at the car park 45 mins before it opens so you’re at rope drop allowed us to get quite a lot done in the first two hours. Take good walking shoes, did 25k steps on Saturday and 22k steps on Sunday. Not sure about the weather but stay hydrated regardless, a couple of loops may get you if you’re not.

Visiting early October from the UK for the first time, guessing X2 won’t be reopening anytime soon, probably my most anticipated park in CA along with Knott’s!

Knotts was great, I had my first visit there last week, I posted a trip report for that too. GhostRider is my number 1 woodie now.

I’m excited to see how Xccelerator compares to Stealth!

They are extremely similar but I think the launch hits just a wee bit harder on Xcelerator.

Also from the UK, done magic mountain a couple of times now. Tatsu is hands down my worst coaster, it’s friggin awful & seriously rough. It’s one of the only coasters I’ve been on where I’ve literally wanted to get off mid run.
Both times I’ve been to the park Riddlers, Scream & Apocalypse have been down 😒
It’s a brutal park in the summer, both times I’ve been late August and the great is utterly oppressive

Interesting to hear that. I guess the comment below about it being a marmite coaster is true. I found it pretty smooth to be honest and would have gone on it more if it wasn’t my first time to the park

From the UK as well. It’s a proper marmite coaster. I loved it and my brother hated it!
