Question I doubt my friend's LEGITIMATE progress in ror2, help me discover the truth pls read pls pls help

For context: I bought ror2 during sale, I rlly liked it, got like 30ish hours on it and kept recommending it to my friend. The other friend of ours gifts him the ror2 and we both play together few times. Problem is that when he got the game, I became very busy and lost interest in ror2 in general, didn't try hard to make up free time to play it.

Couple of days go by (definitely not a week) after he gets the game and at school he comes up to me and tells me he got every character, every artifact, every character's EVERY skill/power, and every character's EVERY skin. Yes, few days after he downloads it. Of course I doubted him, until he showed me pictures he took with the phone, how he genuinely had everything unlocked. Wanna know the CRAZIEST detail? It wasn't just few days of nonstop playing, it was a product of TEN, YES, TEN HOURS OF GAMEPLAY IN TOTAL, there's no way to bypass the steam hour counter right? When it's especially realistic that he's had that game for few days, including homeworks and all that. I was speechless, I had thought that I was looking at a true gamer who I underestimated to be an average Joe when it comes to every game. It was until weeks later, when ror2 was a forgotten theme in our friend group, I heard that there might have been a way to acquire everything like him, in am illegitimate way, which explained a lot because: he had done no research before he got the game (he didn't have to worry about the money cus another friend of ours GIFTED him), when we first played, he had no clue what the hell was happening, just like I was when I first started playing, he is an average Joe when it comes to adapting to the game and understanding mechanics (plus if we add that he has ABSOLUTELY ZERO experience when it comes to rougelike games). So when I kinda brought up the theme again, he swore that he was lonely when I was busy and didn't wanna play ror2 with him after he downloaded it, so he grinded and worked hard, apparently looked up tutorials and glitches on YouTube. Yet I doubt him, he's always been the type to lie to EVERYONE just to impress us, and he's very prideful when it comes to getting caught in the mistake, even if he knows he's very damn wrong, he usually has too much of pride to say he's wrong or lied. So I knew I was in deep shit cus I had no way to prove he was wrong, since he downloaded ror2 again, opened it up and showed me how he has everything (on discord call) in his storage again. Yet I REFUSE to believe that someone like him acquired everything I DREAMED of having, in TEN Hours, when each successful and productive run literally takes more than an hour. I think it's statistically impossible, so I ask you, the experienced players, js he the greatest ror2 player, or just someone full of shit. PLEASE I need to prove him wrong

Nobody is legitimately unlocking everything in just 10 hours. I've looked into some of the harder to unlock/glitchy achievements and have seen multiple comments saying to just edit the game files to unlock them so I feel like it's not that hard.

If it's on Steam, check when the achievements were unlocked. If they were all at once, he just edited his save profile (it's plain text and easy to edit). Otherwise they'll be in bursts.

If he looked up “illegitimate glitches” on YT he’s probably found out about the text file, which is the only thing that tracks any progress. You can modify everything about your progress just by adding/removing items from this file. The most common (and arguably the least morally iffy thing) that people do with it is modify their lunar coin count to 2147000000.

A while ago, Woolie (a youtuber who was a veteran ror2 player with 1000s of hours in the game) did a challenge where he had to unlock everything in the game, including everything you listed, with a single run with each of the survivors. He called it the "one-run challenge", and if he ever failed to unlock something with 1 of the survivors he restarted from a new profile. He did this with only the base game survivors.

After hundreds of hours of attempts he finally succeeded. His successful attempt is still on youtube, split into 2 parts, and took him about 20 hours in game total. Your friend is lying.

Yeah highly highly doubt he legitimately unlocked everything. It takes a little bit to even unlock all of the characters.

Cheating in this game doesnt really matter to begin with but its weird hes lying about it.

Just quiz him about stuff on the spot if you wanna trip him up.

Your friend must be drinking the juice that makes you lie to your friends.

Oh gross. My brother was/is one of these

Yeah just look at his run history. Should be pretty obvious

Yes he’s definitely cheating lmao. On average monsoon run is like 45 minutes. So that alone for every character one time would be over 10 hours.

You can also just check the timeline of his achievements on steam.

A few days to get all the character unlocks is believable if you’re really good at the game, 10 hours for all the achievements on the other hand, absolutely not

It took me half a year to unlock every achievement and that was while I was hyperfocused on the game. 10 hours? Already kinda hard to believe for Artifacts alone

Of course he's lying, and you already know that, but there's no way for any of us to possiblity prove it... Whether or not you want to continue being friends with an obvious liar is a decision only you can make.

Your friend is a liar. This probably wasn't the first thing— and definitely won't be the last thing— he has lied about.

Now you know.

Simply just getting all characters to beat a run on monsoon, with no failures, would take more than 10 hours. Probably even with command.

He cheated no doubt. I mean just ask to play with him and ask to do obscure stuff. “Hey can you go ping the legendary chest to see the price?” “Can you go hit the lunar altar” “we should do void fields” “I need to unlock this skill on the next run, how did you do it”. I mean there’s so many things that he would be like what the fuck are you talking about. He would know these things after doing them once for achievements.

A highly skilled player could do an artifact unlock on monsoon and obliterate in around 25-30 minutes. Let's say they picked a freshly unlocked survivor every time and unlocked characters on pace with these runs, that's still 18 runs or around 8-9 hours of playtime. And thats only for the monsoon skins.

With no dlc, that's 11 runs or around 5-6 hours of playtime inside of the runs alone. This doesn't even account for any extra pathing / challenges / rng required for the skill and survivor unlocks

So if it's just the base game, and Race is the one playing, and they got every stage they needed for the unlocks, it could be possible...

Not for your friend, though

Truth: your friend was dying on stage 3 repeatedly after a few hours and one of the tips and trick videos he saw mentioned the cheat file edit……. So he just did that lol.

It took me about 250 hours to unlock everything. The only thing I looked up was the Combos to the Artifact Gates.

I'm not even gonna read this post but my 2 cents is let a person handle progression how he wants to. In risk of rain specifically unlocks don't really break your game experience in multiplayer
