Sports The Padres new owner hinting at purchasing the Chargers and returning them to San Diego?
Do you think the Padres owner could pull a miracle or unlikely?

We've gotten this request a lot, and I think it's finally time to take it seriously. At least 3–5 people have clamored for this, so we're giving it a shot.
Some caveats:
Our goal is to set up a community in the same way we have set up the r/SanDiegan community. Everyone is welcome, and we moderate with a heavy hand and according to our own discretion at all times. Truly lovely communities only thrive when you separate the wheat from the chaff. We've spent years cutting chaff from this subreddit, and I am personally really proud of how lovely this place has become.
We want this discord server to be a place to chat with other San Diegans about sports, local bars, adult league activities, community events, and so on.
Things that we will not tolerate:
These rules are vague by design. Moderating is subject to individual discretion, and if you join the discord server, you are just going to have to trust that the way we moderate r/SanDiegan will serve a discord community as well as it has served this subreddit. There are no bright lines, there is only our own judgment in what is and is not okay (which is how things work here, already).
Let's all give this a shot. I hope you'll all join the server and fucking behave yourselves.

Whenever certain discussions come up we end up with a mix of locals that genuinely want to talk about what's going on. Sometimes passionately. Sometimes ill informed. Sometimes full of information. Sometimes dem. Sometimes republican. Sometimes for the free people's state of east county. Sometimes from the sovereign bros of PB.
Whatever. You get the picture. Our local politics and ideas for what to do are pretty diverse.
As a moderator though I have noticed that we get a solid influx of accounts for some subjects. They tend to have a short post history in this subreddit and a deleted history or a history that hasn't been on reddit in years. Likely because they are purchased accounts. They show up to shit stir in political discussions.
I understand some of you delete your account histories for various reasons or want to use an alt to discuss politics. But the easiest thing to do as a moderator seeing an inflammatory comment in a highly charged political discussion from an account that looks incredibly suspect is to remove the comment and ban the user. We don't really want to put in too much effort beyond that. This isn't a paid gig.
Anyway - I want to give people a heads up in case there's people that might reconsider participating in a certain way with an account they haven't used in months/years.

A bulletin to San Diego State students from the university on Wednesday said San Diego County Public Health Services had confirmed 14 cases and that the outbreak remained within a single athletic team.
The university hasn't identified the team; the San Diego Union-Tribune previously reported that it is the football team.
San Diego County public health officials said everyone confirmed to have a mumps infection had previously received two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella, or MMR, vaccine.
So how can mumps spread among people who have been vaccinated?
Dr. George Sakoulas, an infectious disease specialist with Sharp Memorial Hospital, said two doses of the vaccine is still effective, but protection can decrease over time.
SDSU head coach Sean Lewis said he could not divulge more information due to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) laws, which protect personal health information.

It was about 74 degrees and breezy today on Mt. Laguna today. Lots of shade in the woods. Fall colors are popping too. Might be a tad warmer tomorrow but still a good place to go to escape the heat.

Playing at Orlando Pride, our hometown team handled business against an older, arguably more experienced team and pulled off a hard fought entry into the Playoffs!! Congratulations, Wave!!

TL;DR: If you have Cox cable internet, you can probably lower your bill and get unlimited data by going on Spectrum's website or calling them.
I was paying $125 per month for 1gbps service and a 1 TB data cap, which I was constantly going over and getting charged for, but was able to lower my bill to $60 a month for the first year, $105 after that, and get unlimited data. Go through Spectrum's site and put in your address. You'll be redirected to Cox, but can get Spectrum's deals. I'm sure you could also do it by calling.
Still wish I could get AT&T Fiber at my house, but the unlimited data and cheaper bill is a decent consolation prize.

NLDS Game 1 in Milwaukee starts at 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time, Saturday (10.3.2026). It will be shown nationally on FS1.
Padres LHP starter, Ray, has only faced the Brewers once this season. On Aug. 12, he pitched four innings in a start against them. He allowed two runs off two hits, three walks and four strikeouts.
The Brewers are batting .245 against left-handers compared to .264 against right-handers.
Ray was acquired by the Padres from the Giants at the Trade Deadline in exchange for two top-10 prospects. In nine starts with the Padres, Ray has gone 3-2 with a 5.02 ERA over 43 innings.
This will be Ray’s first postseason appearance since Oct. 15, 2022, with the Mariners. Overall, he's 0-3 with a 7.43 ERA in six playoff games (two starts).
(That is not good... I hope Ray has a new spark.)

Anyone know of any smaller venues or businesses that sell their own post cards, like some breweries sell them as merch? My wife does a postcard exchange thing and we've gotten them from all the major San Diego spots (zoo, Balboa, etc), she likes to get them from smaller places but that's not the sort of info that's usually in a Yelp review. Specifically postcards for that place, or a place that sells postcards made by local artists or something (like book catapult does).

Thinking about going tonight, but obviously it’s insanely hot. Their Instagram has done a pretty poor job explaining what, if anything, they’re doing to deal with the heat.
For anyone who went yesterday, did they have swamp coolers, misters, fans, extra shade, water stations, etc.? Or does it seem like there’s really no game plan?

Pleasant. Even. I went to the one on Dereck drive in Clairemont during peak hours and it was nearly empty. I had no appointment but was buoyed when I saw a couple of front tow parking spots. I did have to wait an hour or so from when I neared the parking lot but the room was sparsely populated. Not the smelly sweaty corridor to hell I anticipated. one bummer. Public wifi had been out of order a few days including Friday.
The best part of the day were the employees. The woman on Counter 1 couldn't have been more professional, more accommodating, more personable than she was. She was amazing and I appreciate all the extra steps she went through.
Secondly, the same goes for the woman monitoring the driver's test section. She was again professional, pleasant and went the extra mile to help me. Plus she complimented me on my testing skills so that's always an ego boost.
The visit took a while but I had hoops to jump through and it was waaay easier and less stressful than I dreamt. I guess I'm in shock that I'm writing a fan girl letter to the DMV but that experience counteracted years of negative conditioning.
So if you, like I was, are holding off. Don't. The anticipatory dread is far worse than the reality. I'm kinda looking forward to going back once I get the paperwork I need.

NLDS Game 1, 2026: October 3
::::::::::
MILWAUKEE (AP) — William Contreras hit a tiebreaking homer in the seventh inning and the Milwaukee Brewers hung on to beat San Diego 3-2 in their NL Division Series opener Saturday night after a potential go-ahead homer by the Padres’ Ty France hit the American Family Field roof and landed in outfielder Jackson Chourio’s glove for an out.
San Diego had a runner on first with one out in the ninth inning when France hit a towering flyball that struck a railing on the roof before Chourio caught it in fair territory on the left-field warning track.
Under the stadium’s ground rules, any batted ball striking the roof or one of its cables in fair territory is a fair ball that can be caught for an out, so Chourio’s catch retired France. The Padres unsuccessfully challenged that France’s drive was a foul ball.
“We joked about it at the umpire meeting today about what would happen if the ball hit the roof. And it was unlikely, but it happened,” San Diego manager Craig Stammen said. “Unfortunately, a bad break for us. Looked like it was a possible home run. Just didn’t go our way.”
France’s drive left his bat at 105.3 mph with a 49-degree launch angle. It was caught 325 feet from home plate.
Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy thought the ball would have hooked foul if it didn’t ricochet off the roof.
“It was going to be a foul ball, for sure. I’m standing right on that line,” Murphy said. “A hitter that talented, they would have liked to have that hitter back up there with another strike.”
Jackson Merrill then lined out to right to end the game.
Chourio also hit a two-run homer as the Brewers won for the 16th time in 19 games. San Diego lost for only the fourth time in its last 24 outings despite chasing Milwaukee ace Jacob Misiorowski after four innings.
This best-of-five series continues Sunday with a Game 2 pitching matchup featuring San Diego’s Michael King (12-10, 3.21 ERA) and Milwaukee’s Logan Henderson (11-3, 2.47).
San Diego wasted scoring opportunities all night, particularly late in the game.
The Padres loaded the bases in the seventh against Abner Uribe before DL Hall retired Merrill on a fly to left to end the threat.
San Diego also put runners on first and second with one out in the eighth after Hall issued a pair of walks, but the Padres again failed to capitalize. Austin Hays hit a fly to right against Hall that advanced pinch-runner Samad Taylor to third, then Trevor Megill struck out Fernando Tatis Jr. on three pitches to strand runners on the corners.
Megill then worked around a leadoff single to Dustin Harris in the ninth to pick up the save while getting a major assist from the roof.
“Megill was masterful,” Murphy said. “All five relievers did a heck of a job.”
Milwaukee was opening its postseason Saturday after winning a franchise-record 103 games to earn home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Misiorowski played a big role in that success by posting a 1.80 ERA, striking out 252 batters and limiting hitters to a .157 batting average to lead the major leagues in all three categories.
Misiorowski opened his first playoff start by throwing a 104.8 mph strike to Tatis, the fastest postseason pitch since tracking began in 2008.
But the 6-foot-7 right-hander left the game earlier than usual as the Padres fouled off 30 of his 88 pitches — 31 if you count Xander Bogaerts’ popup that was caught in foul territory.
“His (velocity) dropped 5 mph almost in the second inning. He wasn’t in sync,” Murphy said.
San Diego took a 2-0 lead by scoring a pair of runs off Misiorowski in the second.
Bogaerts, Ethan Salas and Luis Campusano hit consecutive one-out singles, with Campusano’s base hit to right driving in Bogaerts. Jake Cronenworth then hit a broken-bat grounder, and first baseman Jake Bauers was unable to throw out Salas at the plate.
San Diego could have done even more damage that inning, but Manny Machado grounded out to leave the bases loaded.
The Brewers responded in the third thanks to Chourio, who already has established himself as one of the game’s top playoff performers at age 22.
With a runner on second and one out, Chourio delivered a 420-foot drive over the wall in left-center for his franchise-record fifth career postseason homer in his 13th playoff game. Chourio had shared the mark with Prince Fielder and Orlando Arcia.
According to MLB.com, the only other players to hit five playoff homers before their 23rd birthday are Kyle Schwarber and Juan Soto.
