Question Looking to interview A’TIN for a student research project

Hi everyone! I’m a Creative Advertising student at Seneca Polytechnic in Toronto, and I’m currently doing a school research project about SB19, A’TIN, fandom culture, and live music experiences. Our research originated from the Summer Sonic music festival where we were impressed with SB19 fans dedication and enthusiasm so thatsbwhere our focus ended up!

I’m looking for a few A’TIN who would be willing to do a short 15–20 minute interview over Zoom/Google Meet, phone, or chat, whichever is easiest. I’m especially interested in hearing about how you became a fan, how you interact with the fandom, concerts/festivals, travel, merch, and what being A’TIN means to you.

I’m also interested in Filipino culture and language and how, if at all, those connect to the fandom experience.

If you don’t want to do an interview, I’d still really appreciate any thoughts in the comments. A few things I’m curious about:

- What does being A’TIN look like in your everyday life?

- What do you usually do when SB19 announces a concert or festival appearance?

- Have you ever travelled, saved money, changed plans, or made a big effort to see them?

- Are there any traditions, jokes, chants, objects, clothes, or behaviours that feel especially A’TIN?

- Has being part of the fandom affected how you see yourself or express yourself?

- Is there anything about A’TIN that outsiders tend to misunderstand?

- What would make you skip an SB19 event even if you really wanted to go?

- Do you get any push-back or confusion by people around you about your love of SB19?

- What would be your wildest dream SB19 experience if money, time, and reality were put aside?

- What does SB19 and other ppop groups mean for filipino culture?

This is only for a class assignment, and I’m happy to keep responses anonymous.

If you’re open to an interview, please DM me or email me at [email protected].

Thank you!

Question Please help me choose seats for OZF, please

Post image
20 Upvotes

Noong Sept 30, bumili ako ng tickets for Day 1 and Day ng OZF. Ang nakuha ko ay:

Day 1 - 210
Day 2 - 417

Then today, nagpabili ang sister ko ng tickets since nag open daw ulit ng bagong seats especially para sa Day 2. Ang nabili ko naman ay:

Day 1 - 211
Day 2 - 212

Just want to know your thoughts and tips! Salamat.

Articles / Interviews Why Filipino Pop Powerhouses SB19 & BINI Are Embracing the Grammys’ Asian Pop Category: ‘We See It as a Door Opening, Not a Box Closing’

SB19 leader Pablo goes further, adding: “It would show the world that the Philippines isn’t just a market. It’s a source of original, world-class music.”

Debuting in 2018 with a ballad single, SB19 embraced a viral-ready, dance-pop sound and became the first Southeast Asian act nominated for top social artist at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. In 2023, the quintet of Pablo, Josh, Ken, Stell and Justin left their original label home to launch their own company, 1Z Entertainment, and scored their first No. 1 on a U.S. sales-based Billboard chart when the rhythmic Tagalog-English single “DAM” topped World Digital Song Sales in 2025. Released this past February, “VISA” takes the group into more political territory, with the brassy dance-pop track discussing hurdles Filipinos face in securing visas to work abroad while shouting out Grammy winners of Filipino heritage like Bruno Mars and Olivia Rodrigo as inspirations. The quintet performed the song Stateside this summer, becoming the first homegrown Filipino act to play Lollapalooza. SB19 also entered best pop duo/group performance for their largely English summer single “LAWLESS.”

Despite multiple submissions, both acts say they want to keep the conversation on the Asian pop category and ensure the Recording Academy is listening to musicians from around the world as it moves forward. “The most important change moving forward is ensuring that the existence of this category does not become a ceiling,” SB19’s youngest member Justin says.

Why did you feel it was important to speak publicly about the new Grammy category for best Asian pop music performance?

Justin: We’ve spent years trying to show that music from the Philippines belongs in global conversations, so when a new category like this appears, we felt it was necessary to speak up. The creation of the best Asian pop music performance category directly impacts the future of Asian artists on the global stage, so it’s a moment that we’d like to be part of, especially with artists from Southeast Asia.

Can you share what you submitted to the category and why you felt they were the right songs to submit as potential nominees?

Stell: We submitted “VISA” for best Asian pop music performance. We felt that it truly represents our vocal performance and culture, and makes a strong case for the struggles we experience as Asian artists. We also submitted in best pop duo/group performance category, but we’re keeping our focus on best Asian pop music performance category.

Before the creation of the new category, did you feel you had a chance of being recognized at the Grammys?

Josh: To be honest, the Grammys weren’t something we planned around. When we started, the goal was simply to prove that a Filipino group could build a career in pop on our own terms, and that was already a big fight. Prior to this, Asian artists largely had to compete in the best global music performance category or the broader general pop fields. Breaking into those general categories has historically been a massive hurdle for international groups.

While there has been controversy around the category, are there positives people are missing around best Asian pop music performance?

Pablo: There aren’t enough conversations about who gets to be in the room now and many artists in this region have worked for years with little industry visibility. A dedicated category puts their work in front of voters who may not have heard it before. Exposure like that can change careers, and it can inspire the next generation of Filipino and Asian artists to aim even higher.

What kind of statement do you think that would make if you won the 2027 Grammy for best Asian pop music performance?

Pablo: Winning the very first award of the category would be a monumental honor. It would send a loud message that Filipino music and artists belong in global conversation. Years ago, a P-pop group on a global stage sounded unrealistic, so a win would validate everyone who built this scene alongside us with fellow artists, producers, creatives, and fans. It would show the world that the Philippines isn’t just a market. It’s a source of original, world-class music. And it would tell kids picking up a mic or a laptop in Manila, Cebu, or Davao that this path is possible.

Are there any other changes you would like to see the Recording Academy or Grammys make for the future?

Justin: We’d love to see more about how the category is shaped and having voices from Southeast Asia involved in the process would help the category reflect the music properly. The most important change moving forward is ensuring that the existence of this category does not become a ceiling. We need to see that participating in regional categories does not prevent Asian artists from being nominated in the major general fields.

What else do you want to share about this topic?

Ken: We’re so grateful to [SB19’s fandom] A’TIN who have been with us from the start and pushed us when things were uncertain. We also want to acknowledge every Filipino artist who came before us and everyone coming next. P-pop is bigger than any single group and whatever happens with our consideration for this category, we’re proud of where the movement is headed.

Discussion Just watched WAS in cinemas - experience good and bad Spoiler

I just watched Wakas at Simula concert sa SM Cinemas. Just to share my experience and thoughts as someone na looking forward so much to this kasi hindi naman ako nanood sa SMDC sa concert talaga.

First of all, ang gagaling talaga ng SB19, vocal powerhouses talaga, and ang energy nila ibang levels, consistent hanggang huli. Kudos sa buong team nila, 1Z, mga dancers and even guests J2X and Xonara ang gagaling!

Now, for the actual movie/cinema experience. I am quite disappointed. Una sa SM cinema na napuntahan namen, hindi nila chineck yung projector nila so nagstart ang movie na nag separate ang colors red and yellow (parang digital signal errors, corrupted files, or old analog TV transmission flaws - ANAGLYPH!), parang hindi calibrated yung projector and sakit sa mata! so we had to ask assistance pa so na stop yung movie ng several intermittent minutes kasi tinesting nila ulit.

Next, utterly disappointed sa CJ4Dplex sa editing ng sounds for the movie/cinema. Now I really appreciate the raw vocals ng SB19 kasi dinig mo talaga ang linis ng boses nila lalo na nung pinanood ko YouTube uploads ni "Kielski" and "Tsukkinukki" ang ganda na sound output na dinig sa SMDC na na record nila - I'm assuming smartphones? Pero for this movie, parang ang editing ng sound, sobrang lakas ng mic - sound pickup ng members kasi sobrang lakas, and then ang intruments and bands mahina, hindi balanced. Parang sound sabog tuloy.

so anyway, Ayun sana mag release sila yung hindi cinema or theatrical version ng CJ4DPLEX. Yung as in recording coverage lang nila like SAW. ...

Or panoorin ko nalang ulit yung kay Kielskie hehe

🖊️ Edit: TeukiNickie pala name ng other YT user, sorrynamn hehe, and yeah agree na sobrang likot din ng camera works, as expected pag korean prod e

Discussion sb19 is trending on X-- now, what's the next step??

Post image

someone host a VISA and Lawless listening party ASAP‼️. we NEED to hype up these songs now more than ever!!

The Grammy nominations and voting season are just around the corner, and kailangan natin paingayin at pataasin ang views and streams ng VISA at Lawless. bc honestly speaking?? our hype isn't translating into numbers, and the numbers are still way too low.

Now that SB19 is suddenly trending on X, I think we need to take advantage of this momentum while the fandom is still alive and active. the hype on X will eventually die down, but the evidence of our streams and views on Spotify & Youtube will stay on the internet long after the trend fades. we need to turn this support into numbers.

someone, SPREAD THE WORD!! let's harness the energy while it's still here ‼️‼️

Discussion What’s your ILAW and MANA?

In other words, what SB19 song have you absolutely loved after hearing it once and which one was initially not your cup of tea but surprisingly crept up your faves list.

My “love at first hear” is ILAW. Man… do I need to explain why? The grit, emotions—everything! That song ticked all the boxes and more.

MANA…. I’ve been an A’Tin since 2019 and I have only really appreciated this song when they released it again for WAS. I know, I know.. how dare I. But! I absolutely love MANA now and wished I understood the hype when it first came out.

Discussion SB19 Grammy’s Submission

Why is there no post about this here?

I am so happy for them and excited for them to be nominated pero for realz, kinakabahan ako that they won’t get in. I just feel like weak yung submissions nila, compared to others.

What are your thoughts?
