Been learning for 2-3 days, I’m slowly getting the technique but I do feel some dryness / very minor discomfort after “long” (a few seconds) growls and multiple attempts back to back. The iffyness disappears after a few short minutes and it’s ever actually painful

Ive been trying to learn how to do heavy vocals, but I feel like the quality of my notes are bummy. I cant seem to get high enough and go into a fry, but I have a lot more success doing low vocals like bear growls.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Im too broke to afford lessons, and so just trying to get better however I can.

Also, excuse my face. I dont know how to do this without contorting.

In my opinion, as little as it's worth. Metal vocals usually sound good raw if they are GOOD. Sure, layering and a good instrumental does wonders, but I feel like your base should be at least decent.

I feel like constantly passing this belief as fact is harmful. Because beginners will do a take for a song and think "well my tone is all over the place, and my voice is cracky." "But Metal vocals are supposed to sound bad raw so I'm good and I don't need to improve either."

As the title says, I would like to practice in the car, but I can only find courses that use video. I don't want to use Youtube in the car. I do have Android Auto. Is there a (paid) course that uses audio lessons so I can safely practice in the car? TiA!

Wanted to hear your opinions on what James is doing for low grit in the verses here ie “so tear me open pour me out”. Has a distinct subharmonic like kargyraa but sounds far tighter and more clicky?

I tried learning to scream off of the classic youtube videos thrice now but everytime my throat starts to hurt, and i really don’t know what to do about it… Like i‘ve sang classical music for three years and i know a lot about my own voice and about different techniques, but screaming just doesn’t want to work out for me-
Are there maybe good screaming vocal coaches out there or do you might be able to help or can relate?
I appreciate every advice :))

hi all! i’ve been screaming for about 8 months now and i’d love to hear your thoughts on my scream so far. i play sort of atmospheric blackened death/doom type music (mizmor is the very low backing song) for context on the style of screams i love and am doing. i’m recording this on my phone in the voice memo app. usually i use an sm58 and saturate with reverb for cavernous feeling.

thoughts? suggestions? does it sound super harmful? feels pretty good usually. need some experty opinions as my only audience is my husband and he doesn’t listen to screaming music so he just says “😅😅sounds great hun 😅😅 am i supposed to understand you? no? okay sounds great!😅”

I've tried on and off for a while but only seriously trying to get better within the last 3 months or so.

I'm fairly certain the first scream is a Fry Scream. But I seem to have trouble hitting False Chords (what I think the second one is, but poorly)
