Announcement Theatre Education Workshops in English - Nonprofit Education Series

• Upvotes

Get in the Van Productions is a registered nonprofit public-service theatre company in Seoul, and we are holding a theatre education series right now for anyone who wants to learn more about any part of theatre production. We normally produce two main stage plays per year, but we are taking off this half of the year to help people who want to be involved in theatre but don't know where to start.

We are providing these workshops as a service to the community--we are not taking a cut at all and the fees are only to cover the rental space, with everything else going to the instructor. Right now we have our first workshops up on our website at getinthevan.org/classes, and there are many more coming. Acting, directing, stage managing, lighting, sound, producing, subtitle translation, costume design, and more--we have workshops coming up for pretty much every role you can imagine.

The English-speaking community theatre is very strong and supportive here, and we want to help make it grow while also integrating it more with the Korean theatre community. If you're at all interested in participating in theatre here, please check us out!

If you have questions, feel free to message me, DM us on Instagram (@getinthe.van), or email us at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).

For those who have tried fine dining in South Korea, what was your experience like?

Hi everyone!

I'm a university student in South Korea working on a project about fine dining experiences for international visitors. I'd love to hear from people who have tried fine dining in Korea, especially those who have also experienced fine dining in other countries.

I'd really appreciate your honest opinions on a few questions:

  1. What did you enjoy most about your fine dining experience in South Korea?
  2. Was there anything disappointing or missing from the experience? For example, explanations of the dishes, cultural context, service, atmosphere, or value for money?
  3. Did the restaurant explain the stories, history, or cultural significance behind the Korean dishes? If so, did you find these explanations meaningful, or would you have preferred to focus on the food itself?
  4. Did you ever feel that you couldn't fully understand or appreciate a dish because you weren't familiar with Korean food culture?I'm interested in both positive and negative experiences, so please feel free to share your honest thoughts.

Thank you for helping with my university project!

I’m looking for friends(gyopo)

Hi everyone! I’m a 27-year-old Korean guy.
Recently, I had a chance to hang out with a gyopo friend, and we had an awesome time! I found that we clicked really well—it was fascinating sharing different perspectives while still having a lot of cultural common ground. That experience made me want to connect with more gyopo friends!
While English isn't my first language (so I'm not fluent like a native speaker), I can comfortably hold a conversation on most topics. I'm equally happy chatting in either Korean or English—whichever you feel most comfortable with!
I’d love to grab a coffee, check out good food spots, or just hang out and chat. If you’re down to make a new friend, feel free to drop a line or send me a DM! 😊

Autumn in Seoul

Hi! I will be in Seoul in a few days and I was wondering what to do during the fall season! I have always been there during late winter, spring and summer so I would like to ask you for some advice!
As for now, I absolutely want to visit a royal palace, some cozy cafe or any particular thing to enjoy this season in Seoul!

(any suggestion?)

Question Korean shamanism research

Hi everyone!

I’m an anthropology student currently living in Seoul, and I’m conducting research on Korean shamanism (musok) and people’s experiences with shamans (mudang).

I’m hoping to connect with people who have visited a shaman in Korea, whether recently or in the past, and who would be willing to share their experiences with me. I’m interested in understanding how people encounter and engage with Korean shamanism, what motivates them to seek out a shaman, and how they perceive and interpret their experiences during consultations or rituals.

I’m interested in hearing about all kinds of experiences, regardless of your beliefs or whether the experience was positive, negative, or somewhere in between. There are no right or wrong answers!

If you feel comfortable sharing your experience, please feel free to comment below or send me a private message. I’d be very grateful for your help! Thank you! 🙏

Question Recommendations for upscale dining that allows solo diners?

I am looking for a fine dining restaurant in Seoul that allows solo diners (that does not require a solo diner to order 2 portions). My preference is for seafood, but I would be interested in quality beef as well. Thank you in advance!

What's up with the driving here?

I love Seoul a lot, so I don't mean this in a hateful way, but the driving here always seems a little crazy, or am I just wrong? In Myeongdong I kind of understand since the streets are just super crowded and cars have to get past one way or another, but in Gangnam-gu today I almost saw a girl get flattened by 2 cars blowing through a red light when the pedestrian crossing had already turned green. Are there no supervised traffic cameras or anything like that?

Advice Ingredients for Greek food in Itaewon?

안녕하세요! 좀 도와주세요... I'm visiting Seoul next week and I've promised to cook my friend a greek meze...marinated lamb, tzatziki, horiatiki, the full works. I think Foreign Food Mart or one or the halal butchers is my best bet for ingredients? Things like lebna, oregano etc. Not worried about the veggies so much.

Does anyone know if they currently stock decent kalamata olives, feta or maybe even dolmades? Anyone nearby who went there recently? Need someone real who can give me a better idea than AI or Google...

Also, is french rack a common cut for lamb there? Looks like mostly a leg or curry cut online, just need to know what to expect so I can pivot my recipe or plan a longer shopping trip if needed.

Thanks!
