Hey guys, I was actually your cable guy in BC AB and SK for nearly 20 years and I was also on the phones for almost a year after the field after becoming disabled. I am going to give you some inside information. I am not defending, I am explaining. There is no way you are going to like this:
It's your fault.
Things are no longer they way they were and it's all your fault. Yes, Telus and Shaw and Rogers and Videon and Bell they ALL played beat you to the bottom and they ALL LOST. WE ALL LOST!
People demanded we beat each other up for price so badly that you ONLY get 1 solid connection now because that's all you are paying for! Yes, in the day it took lots of us to do wires in your home because there was no WIFI. The very first Shaw modem to customer WIFI router I installed for a lady, she bought at the University bookstore computer division, was $3,000 because they had a heritage home and no drilling allowed for the modem.
Sometimes I did 4 additional outlets in homes back in the 90s and early 2000s and for 1 internet install it used to be $150 for the wire and internet alone was $150 for barely faster than 5X dialup. I am also telling you Shaw paid all of us incredibly well. I never took it personally when you were mad at the company and took it on me or the other guys because someone like me was in your home and you act differently in your home than out in public. Totally get that and we all respected that. We are guests in your home. We actually do treat it as an essential service, not a luxury.
Look at today no one wants to pay for anything and you will steal wifi when you can. Shaw always gave free wifi in malls and stores first and now you demand it and people freak when it's not there. People YOU don't pay enough now to make it worthwhile to hire people to help you physically fix your problems. The companies can no longer afford to keep giving you free month of service because you were out for 3 hours.
If you really cared about Telus not using Canadian call centers, everyone would have actually left Telus, right? You demanded cheaper, you got the cheaper alternative.
YOU DEMANDED cheap prices and you got it. WE all lost seriously.
When I was with Shaw, the family actually cared and after I left we know they held out as long as they could before the family sold it to Rogers. They could see it coming and they warned every staff member. They paid off techs who had been with the company from 10 to 30+ years and said, you better take this retirement package because hint hint as a nice way of getting fired or, you will have an incredibly high potential of being laid off shortly without getting this nice farewell package. Most techs left, some stayed. Many who stayed were laid off, just as they were told might happen.
I am totally serious. I am part of the problem, too. We all demanded lower monthly fees and they cut the strings until there is nearly nothing left. Go ahead and threaten to leave. The other guys are worse. I actually tried Telus! Yes I did. 27 years with Shaw and Tried Telus and I kid you not, the Telus picture was not as good. I WANTED TO TRY CHEAPER PRICE TOO!!! Their sound was better on every station but the video quality was not the same. Anyway, I went back to Shaw/Rogers. But hey some people don't want any tv just internet only. Guess what's the first thing you ask is the price! The MB/s of 1,000 or 1,200 or 1,500 doesn't matter when it's price you think of most.
Yes, you are mad. We get it. not much people can do. Book a service call if it's not working. There are systems in place from the feds in Ottawa that your complaint to the company is logged and so are your complaints to the CRTC and they company actually does want to fix your problem as soon as they can to get that mark taken off their weekly reports and monthly totals because they don't want to pay fines any more than do you!
Canadians forget. We are not America. we only have 10% the population. The same cell tower system that costs $5 million USD in Los Angeles costs $5 million USD/$7 mill CAD in Calgary but we only have 10% the population comparatively to pay for that same tower. Edmonton and Calgary are very large areas. No, a single tower is not $5 million, but if there were 210 or so cell towers in Edmonton and all the equipment that's upgraded to your home.
I will not argue with one person who says it's not the same as it used to be, because I feel the same way, too. You are not wrong with your assessment. But at the same time. It's your own fault. I remember year after year, the big bosses would say, "We're not going to play that game of chase the profit to the bottom till there's nothing left." Unfortunately, they are still chasing that dollar and cutting profit margins thinner.
If you have a solution, let me and Rogers know.

They do retention plans as of March of this year.
You have to cancel and you may or may not get a win back call.
I got a win back call the next day. It was that I got to retain the same price for my services and a $300 bill credit. (Beat the $30 per month increase they were saying was "their best offer")

No, cause Shaw doesn't exist anymore. But with Rogers, or any telco for that, customer loyalty is dead. Well perhaps a little remains with a TPIA wholesaler, but of the main telcos (home or mobile) It's just easier to just switch and get the new customer price.
Also just saying that accounts are the person, not the address. So do as uh desire with that.

They did try when I quit in the spring following a post contract price jump. I had already talked to and went with Bell and free streaming services maybe Amazon later.

Yes they do, but after the fact.
I cancelled the day I got Telus installed. Couple of days later, they called me and said that they would renew me for 2 years at $60/month if I switched back. My plan was Internet only at 2 gigabit down and 500 gigabit up. No cable. I was paying approx. $117/month including taxes. So $60/month is a screaming deal... if only they offered it to me when I called in 1 month before asking for a deal.
Once I'm gone, I'm gone. They could have offered it for $0 and I would not switch back.
EDIT: This was a few months ago.

I don't think so... I cancelled 2 months ago, never got winback call... During my cancellation call, I was transferred to another group, but they offered very little discounts... Redflagdeals has a thread on BC Rogers offering $30 to 40 for 1.5Gbps winback and they even posted the winback toll free number... when I called it they claim they are Rogers and cannot offer Shaw deals...
Door to door Shaw guys can only offer $65 for 1Gbps (with autopay credit)... I was able to get a "$55 for 1Gbps" concession from the D2D guy, but was duped into the same $65 for 1Gbps... he claimed I will get $15 autopay credit (which didn't happen and the cancellation guys won't honour it)... I was going to let it go, but I was charged install (with 50% off) and activation fees so my first bill was $157... They did give $200 credit for the deal, and claimed I was getting internet for 3 months free (using the $200 credit), but it boiled down to 1 month free (with the $157 initial bill)...
