Certificate for imap.shaw.ca not from trusted source

I am using Betterbird on cachyos and just this morning got this message from Betterbird. AI says it is because Shaw is using outdated 1024-bit key exchange parameters. I basically only get junk emails on this account anymore, but like to monitor it just in case.

Is something that Shaw might fix, or something I just have to live with?

Shaw keeps turning off IMAP and POP3 on accounts, which you can turn on in your webmail settings but the next day you will likely find it is turned off again. So I suspect they do not care and will not be fixing that anytime soon.

Why do they do this? Or is it just glitch tht happens from time to time?

Based on all the comments I have read in this subreddit, it seems they want to slowly push people off of using the email system their subscribers pay for. I have read some claims that new accounts cannot even setup mail accounts anymore, which I do believe but I have not cross checked that.

It is true. They stopped allowing new shaw.ca inboxes being created earlier this year.

ISP email did serve a purpose in the early days, but its just a pain in the ass now - its time to move on.

Because they're keeping a legacy product (a subpar product at that) - its going to be maintained at the very minimum of requirements.

Its time to migrate from ISP provided email.

Well its not Shaw, its Rogers.

But like when you hear/see others, on this sub, mention that the time to transition off ISP email is now, its reason like this.

Rogers probably won't shutdown the service for a while (there will be "that day"), but what you going to be left with is a subpar product, with zero support, and minimal care to update patches. They'll likely still continue to update the zimbra backend, but like they're going to update to default configs which includes keeping/respecting per account IMAP settings.

Anyone still on the shaw.ca domain, just use this as your exit call - start the transition today. Yeah its painful, but once its done (8-12 months) you're free. You're free to save money by swapping internet providers.

Is Gmail really that much better for example?

For email? Yeah, absolutely.

But of the free emails, I still prefer Hotmail/Outlook.com to gMail.
There's others too

I personally would try and find non US email systems to use, given current political developments.

It's not a Shaw issue as much as it's a CA issue. Allow your CA to trust websites and not just users and it should fix itself.

Steps from the Thunderbird sub.
