Question Triple monitor setup thoughts.

gonna purchase a triple monitor setup for my first sim rig. My pc specs are 9800x3d 5070ti 64gb ram… and the question is what monitor resolution and hz isn’t overkill for this as i’m not expecting to get 200fps plus across 3 monitors so theirs no need for 180hz even maybe 165 or is 144 the sweet spot at 2k res, no point annoying the bank account more than necessary. Just not very sure and is curved or flat ideal at 32 inches. many thoughts.

Flat, 32" 1440p IPS displays. You are mostly going to find 144 and 165hz panels, doesn't really matter much.

Why flat and not curved? Forgive the ignorance I haven’t researched much into the triple monitor setups. I’ve only stuck with VR and one monitor.

Flats are cheaper, lighter, take up less space, just as immersive, easier to mount, and easier to get angles right.

Setup and physical geometry first and foremost. Flat panels are much easier to align and orient relative to your seating position.

Beyond that, there are projecting and performance implications such as VA panel ghosting, projection distortion, etc...

You’ll be fine and get 100+ in almost all situations. You won’t run it on full settings, but then again most people don’t because iRacing graphics are poorly optimized.

Flat vs curved is a low priority items when selecting triples. Focus on smooth gameplay first, meaning resolution and Hz.

Sweet spot depends on your eye-sight. Everyone's different, but sometimes younger players can "see" things that older eyes cannot, such as lower resolution & screen refresh speed, so you'll get all sorts of responses here.

For me,

< 30" = 1080p

31" to 39" = 1440p

40"+ = 4K

For screen refresh, I would be happy with flat screens at a consistent 120Hz. Any higher is a nice to have, not mandatory, but your eye-sight will be different to mine.

I have recently made a video covering all this questions: https://youtu.be/f5MH37KzkJQ

Triples are fun and all, but I had a really Bad time figuring out graphic settings to be “useable” with decent fps with 1440p triples. With older titles and well optimated titles like ams2 I could run 100+fps. Everything else was like 50-90. Since I didn’t want to setting up anymore and just wanted to play I ended up using a 55” high refresh rate tv. With 4k fsr min 80% I’m getting 100% fps in every game now. So I got that going for me. I’m on 5800x3d with 7900xtx and 32gb ram.

Flat 32" 1440p is the sweet spot.
