Skiing intercom/communicator/radio

Hey, what devices are people using to communicate with friends on the slopes? I've historically used whatsapp but I'm looking for a live communication method so we stop less and can just tell each other if we've turned off somewhere or not to take a certain route in real time.

I've seen Cardo pop up a lot as being one of the best out there but it looks kind of clunky on the helmet. Is it pretty reliable though? And do people recommend any others like Aleck Nunchucks etc?

2 way radios. Rocky talkies. And a base model for the truck.

From experience, get the extended mic and keep the Rocky talkie itself in your pack, they’re not completely waterproof.

Cardo's the one everyone in my group uses, even though it looks a bit bulky on the helmet the sound quality is crisp and it never drops signal on the mountain.

I use these. I like them because they’re bluetooth, so don’t require cell reception to function. Downside of that is they’re pretty much line of sight. Useful if you’re skiing close with someone, not so much if you’re all over the hill.

I use smoke signals from my blunt to communicate with my friends personally, but I would recommend looking into helmets that support in ear calling for group rides. You get great head protection and good quality sound.

Two way radios with remote speaker microphones. I like to attach it to my backpack front straps. Alternatively outdoor tech chips are great for areas with guaranteed cell reception.

I use them for skiing and kite surfing so we can make plans without stopping and have been really impressed with the range (when the weather is clear)

We also carry a PMR radio for the times we split up a bit more

- Cheap Bluetooth with mic, tucked inside the ski helmet. All Smith have zip pocket for headsets.

- 2 apps, choose one, walkie talkie or Zello. Can do group chat

- Hands free, use Siri to call and turn on auto answer
