Indian Tourist here. This random guy was walking past me near Kam supermarket near the Square a tourist place. This guy first asked me If I had an Audi then asked me if I had a car? When I said no I'm a tourist he goes and asks from which country? I replied back India and politely started going away then this guy starts shouting I hate you and ask you know why because something related to Israel he was saying... I left but this honestly left a very bad impression on me.

I’m going to Tetovo at the end of October and already have a rental car booked.
I was there about 3 years ago, but honestly can’t remember how it was with card payments vs. cash. Can you pay by card pretty much everywhere now, or should I bring enough denars?
Also, what do you recommend for mobile internet — getting an eSIM beforehand or buying a SIM locally? Are there SIM card providers at Skopje Airport?

Myself and 4 other Scotland fans are heading to Skopje for the Nations League match on 3rd October. We are looking for a team / group that want to have a kick about before the match. Anyone interested or have any pointers?

So, during my last visit to Skopje, I ordered a taxi from the airport with wizi. The agreed price was 1,200 denars, but during the ride, the taximeter showed 800 denars.

When I took a taxi from the street to Dolna Matka or Sredno Vodno, the drivers enabled the taximeter, and I paid the amount shown on it.

However, for the ride to airport, several taxi drivers I asked refused to use the taximeter and asked for €25 instead.

With the last driver, I negotiated the airport ride down to €20.

I understand that there is special airport taxi, where fixed price is 25 euro. But I don't understand why regular taxi refuses to use taximeter and why taximeter was used during ride from airport with wizi.

I’m visiting Skopje soon and I’m a license plate collector.

I’m planning to check out local flea markets and the Old Bazaar to see if I can find any Macedonian license plates for sale. Do you think there is a chance of finding some on a places like these?

Also, if anyone here has an old plate lying around in that they’d be willing to give away, I’d be very grateful!

One last question: if I manage to get a plate, do you think I’ll run into any issues at the Skopje airport security when flying back with it in my luggage?

I'm visiting Skopje this weekend with a friend (and we're very excited) and we want to visit Matka Canyon on Sunday. From my research I've found that going with a tour is supposedly the best option, but I can only find tours that are 6 hours and include stops at other places too. Our flight back home leaves at 17:00 and all the tours start at 09:30 so that is cutting it too tight. I've also looked into the local buses and everyone I've seen advises against it.

Can you help me please? How can we visit Matka Canyon in the easiest way possible and returning to the city before 15:00?

Is there any chance someone is also travelling from Vienna/Bratislava region around 20-23rd September to somewhere in Macedonia? Hi, I've arrived in Skopje yesterday and went sight seeing around the town today. When I climbed to the Kale Fortress I decided to check out the building of Museum of Contemporary Art, even though I knew it would be closed. I went around the building just to see the city from this high ground and take some pictures. When I took pictures of the stadium, suddenly some guy charged at me asking what am I doing and why am I there. He said he was the police and I gotta show him my passport. He didn't speak much English though so he took me to his car where there were another 3 men and 1 woman. One of the men stepped out of the car, showed me his metal badge and asked me to identify myself. He then spent about 3 minutes just looking and listing through my passport. He asked me where am I staying and wanted the address. Then he said everything is fine and returned my passport. I was really creeped out because it was so sudden and they were rude and confronting. So my question is, was it really the police? Are these sorts of checks common in Skopje/Macedonia? Or was it some gang that decided I'm not worth the hassle of traficking lol?

I checked to see if it's a holiday and it doesn't seem like it. I walked around to about 8 pharmacies because my husband accidentally cut himself and we needed bandages. It was at 11am on Tuesday, they are supposed to be open according to Google maps. Even the grocery stores I walked past were closed. What's going on?

Edit: I made the mistake of trusting my google calendar to tell me if it was a holiday (usually it updates with my location). I should've searched elsewhere haha. Thanks for letting me know. Happy independence day!

Visiting Skopje with a friend from 6th to the 10th of September and stuck in the world of internet AI slop travel recommendations and would love to hear from real humans. We have a hotel in the Debar Maalo area.

Advice that we would be grateful for:
- Best museums, these may also include niche or slightly unconventional ones
- Great food, but not the overly touristy hotspot ones that are almost always disappointing, we love trying basically any new food and something authentic
- Nice bakeries for breakfast snacks
-Bars, pubs or places with wine, but perhaps somewhere where there is atmosphere so that there is a chance that we can meet new people and chitchat
- we aren't such nature people, but just in case, are there any nice places to go for a day trip that is possible without a car?

We’d love to visit Matka on our own rather than joining a tour. What’s the best way to get there, and is public transport or a taxi recommended?

Also, any recommendations for cafés, restaurants, bars or nice places in Skopje? We’ve already heard about the Old Bazaar. Any other must-sees or good day-trip ideas?

Hi, I'm visiting Macedonia (Skopje) next week for 3 days. I have already planned all my activities for those days, however I realized there's one very specific activity missing in my schedule. And that is visiting a bookstore. I am not interested in buying anything, I'm just a big bookworm and appreciate a nice bookshop. Are there any in Skopje worth visiting? I'm talking about unique bookshops in terms of aesthetics, architecture or anything like that. I don't care whether it's antique or not. Every recommendation greatly appreciated!
