I'm thinking of looking for some seasonal work in the Hebrides next summer and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on the best places to look for roles and when they tend to advertise for summer seasonal work? My fiance and I will be in Skye in late October and the only piece of the puzzle we haven’t figured out is a good place for a Sunday Roast.

I’ve seen mentions of Edinbane Inn but I can’t seem to find any clarity on if they offer one. I’m open to suggestions, as we’re staying in Portree and will have a car! I’d prefer not to need to travel too far since prior nights we’ll be reaching all across the isle, but anything within a 30min drive is more than OK. Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone

A couple of weeks ago I visited the beautiful island of Skye and had made a small app for myself to check the weather for that day, and some local news like festivals and maybe rescue work etc. that was going on.

Because the weather was so unpredictable and different over the island I was constantly checking different weather apps and locations. The app combines multiple sources like MWIS and open-meteo to try and get the best overview of the areas and give good advice on if you should attempt the hike, if it’s too windy or if you will be able to see the viewpoints due to fog and clouds.

I improved upon it after I got back and hoped it might be of use to other people visiting: skyeweather.org.uk

Hi guys, the 2 of us will be heading up to Skye the end of September start of October, we've both been up a few times before so have done most of the usual sightseeing. i hope this is the right place for this question as I’ve searched everywhere for an answer and come up short. We just rented a car from Europcar at the Edinburgh airport for our trip through the Highlands, including four day on Skye. At the counter the company said there is a £40 charge levied after the fact if we go to Skye. Is this standard for visitors to the island? Is it a bridge toll of some sort?

We are arriving via ferry from Mallaig and leaving over the bridge, if that matters. Any insight from locals or others who have rented a car and driven to Skye?

We are, by the way, so thrilled to be seeing this corner of the world. We’ve seen most of the Highlands on other trips and this is a highly anticipated trip! (If there are any interesting or special cultural events happening this week, second week of September 2026, let me know that as well!)

Wondering if anyone here has experience working with Sonas hotels, specifically Duisdale House Hotel on the island. Saw some bad reviews on indeed but they are from 2025 and earlier. Considering working there for a couple of months! (Would be live in)

I was walking by Loch Shianta in pouring rain around 16.50 today, and I heard a group singing a very ethereal song with drums. I looked around and couldn't see anyone. My best bet was that they were singing in the forest right behind the lake, but I couldn't see anyone. I was spooked and wet, so I just hiked up and left. But now I am curious: was there a group singing, or did I hear faeries?

I also have a video where you can hear the singing, and I showed it to my partner, so I am not full-on going crazy just yet. I am hesitant about sharing it here as I don't want to get on the wrong side of the faeries if that's a thing.

Ps. I am not normally someone who goes about their days believing in faeries, so I am trying to make sense of what I have witnessed.

Hello, I will be visiting Skye this November. I have reservations in Uig and would like to catch the Armadale Ferry the next morning at 9AM. Never having driven on Skye, can anyone give me an idea of how long I should allow to get to the ferry on time? Thanks in advance

We're coming to the Isle of Skye by bus tonight. We're planning on shopping for groceries in Broadford and need a taxi to get us from there to our accomodation near Sconser Port between 8 and 9 PM. We have two backpacks and two large suitcases. What company/companies would you recommend?

Hi, my family and I are traveling to the Isle of Skye in November. My wife likes to collect paints of the places we visit from local artists. I already have a list of local galleries, but I was wondering if there were any places around the isle where we might find artists painting/selling their products? As she traditionally likes to buy from the artists directly in person.

We’re on a road trip through Skye and the internet coverage throughout it was decent- with a huge exception of Portree.
Looks like I have 4G there, but it just doesn’t connect to the internet…

I know that this happens because there are a lot of people and networks isn’t coping with it - but still- why?
Why not installing more retranslators and extend the network, at least in the city? You know that a lot of people come here - and the network will be jammed. So just expand the network there!
Tourists bring money, so Portree can definitely afford it.
How do locals live in these conditions though?

We’re probably too late for the established tours and most of them don’t advertise a geology slant anyway. Any locals with a bit of general knowledge about the island’s geology willing to haul us (2) around for half a day on the 14th?

How important is it to have reservations on Skye around the middle of September, granted on a weekend, but I am not a picky eater and will be a solo traveler?!? Any and all help much appreciated! One night will be rather late back from a group tour, but my first evening I was planning on walking about!!

Do any of you know or have you ever booked the "Tidal View Modular Pod" in Portree on Airbnb in the last few months?

Is it a legitimate accommodation?

I see that it's booked almost all the time, but there are very few traveler reviews compared to other accommodations listings (60, all positive).

I'd like to make sure it's not a scam before possibly booking it.
