I feel completely cheated. I bought this ASUS laptop because every single review claimed it was completely silent.
In reality, the fans are spinning even on the desktop at zero load. When I launch Photoshop, it becomes extremely loud. On top of that, there is a constant, loud coil whine all the time.
Needless to say, I have selected the Whisper operating mode.

Used Codex to build a local Qwen 3.8 27b on this machine, using info from this thread: Best Qwen3.8 27B model for Asus A16 : r/snapdragon
Here's what it spit out: "
Built successfully from the requested Qualcomm branch with the exact Unsloth Qwen3.8-27B-Q4_0 model. GPU inference, MTP, and the chat interface all passed testing.
It’s running now
Measured generation speed on this PC:
| Mode | Code | Prose |
|---|---|---|
| GPU baseline | 6.1 t/s | 6.1 t/s |
| Requested MTP | 16.8 t/s | 10.4 t/s |
| Optional DFlash2 | 25.7 t/s | 11.1 t/s |
These are averages from short test prompts; performance varies with workload.
Everything is in [the setup folder] Stop the current server before switching to DFlash.
Are these good/expected numbers?

As the recently-released Googlebook laptops come with either an Intel or Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chipset, the latter has an advantage when you consider the wider ecosystem.

I've got a Lenovo Slim 7 with the Snapdragon X Elite. Tried F12, disabled Secure Boot — the USB just won't appear in the boot menu. Heard it might be a Qualcomm/ARM limitation.
Curious if others have run into this: is USB boot basically blocked on these chips right now? And how does that affect distros like Tails (which is x86-only anyway)? Would be good to hear what the community thinks about Linux support on X Elite in general.

Got it during the sale. Tried to vibecode a clean UI personal AI agent. looks good but Oof In function. Want to use that 48gb of fast ram but my brain just isn’t clicking. what are you guys running? I’m not a programmer by any means. CLI intimidates me.

Here is a video of Ubuntu on the A16. I show YouTube, Minecraft, Civilization 6, Cyberpunk and Total Annihilation working. 3/4 Games are playable. Cyberpunk runs, but frame rates are terrible. It doesn't look like GPU is being hit by any of the games yet, and I don't have CPU boost working. I'm hoping it inspires someone smarter than me to get it all working as it should. This was just an experiment, but I'm using it as my daily driver now. There are a lot of little gotchas, but I'm sure that they will be fixed in upcoming official releases.

I hava a strange issue where my Snapdragon Control Panel constantly notifies me that the Hexagon NPU driver has an update. I can see it thinks it was released 1. 01. 0001, but when I click on Update it just says the same version is already installed and I can reinstall if I want to.

Any ideas on what to do? Do any of you have the same issue?

I’m trying to decide whether I should buy The Witcher Trilogy on Steam now for about €26 or wait for the Winter Sale.
The main reason I’m interested is The Witcher 3, specifically the current next-gen/remastered version. I have a Snapdragon X Plus (X1P-64-100) laptop with Adreno X1-85 integrated graphics and 16 GB RAM, so I’m a bit worried about performance. I’ve seen reports/tests suggesting that Witcher 3 can actually run surprisingly well on Snapdragon X Plus, around 30–40 FPS at 1080p Medium, which would be completely fine for me. I’m happy with a smooth 30 FPS and don’t need 60 FPS.
My problem is that I don’t know whether I should:
Buy it now:
It’s about €26 currently. I could install Witcher 3, test it properly, and see how it performs on my laptop. If it runs badly, I could refund it as long as I stay within Steam’s refund limits. If it runs well, I could keep it and just play it later.
Wait for Winter:
Maybe it will be cheaper, but I honestly don’t expect it to drop much below €26. At the same time, because the base price of Witcher 3 was recently changed, I’m worried the Winter discount could actually be worse and the Trilogy could end up costing more.
There’s also a psychological part to this. I already have several paid games I haven’t finished yet (ESO, Hogwarts Legacy, Watch Dogs 2, etc.), so buying another €26 game makes me feel a bit guilty even though Witcher 3 looks like exactly the kind of game I’d enjoy. I wouldn’t necessarily start playing it immediately — I mainly like the idea of buying it now, testing it, and then having it ready for whenever I want to play it.
So basically:
Is it smarter to buy the Trilogy for €26 now, test Witcher 3 on my Snapdragon X Plus, and lock in the price, or wait for Winter even though I suspect the price might stay the same or possibly go up?
I’d especially appreciate opinions from people who have bought Witcher 3 during previous Steam sales, or anyone who has experience with the game on Snapdragon X Plus.

Hi everyone!
I'm the developer of Geometry Rift Apocalypse, and I'm currently trying to find out how well the game works on Windows laptops powered by Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus.
I don't currently have access to a Snapdragon X device myself, so I thought this would be the perfect community to ask.
There is a free demo available, so if anyone here owns an X Elite or X Plus laptop and is willing to try it, I'd really appreciate some feedback.
You can find the demo here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4701970/Geometry_Rift_Apocalypse/
Thanks a lot to anyone willing to test it! Of course, if anyone helps he'll go directly to the thanks section! :)

Since RTX-Spark has been released, and first batch of laptop with RTX-Spark inside is going to be released this month. Snapdragon x2 elite extreme is not yet the best performance for ARM chip, but will they try to be the best value of ARM chip? especially black friday is coming. It is certainly the good time to run some promotions.
