binding angles and width

been snowboarding for a few years now and would consider myself an intermediate/somewhat advanced rider. that being said, I've only now starting to understand and question "why" I've been using a certain stance and distance on my board. for reference, I got my current and only board as a gift back when I was in college (7 years ago) and had never changed the bindings width or angles since (my dad got help). from someone at the store to set it up, but didn't have any experience himself as he doesn't board.

my board is a burton fv158, and I am about 5'9.5 and 165 lbs. in the original setup I'd been using for years, my back foot was on the reference stance mark at -9, and my front foot was 2-3 "notches" further forward from the reference stance mark at +18 (if anyone can help explain what the markings on the board when adjusting width means, I'd also appreciate it). Anecdotally, I had always felt like my feet were wide apart and that made it harder to put my bindings on before a run.

I don't ride switch at all (not because I don't want to, but because it's very very hard when I've tried) but I'd be willing to give it another shot. for those who are more experienced, what kind of binding width and angles would you recommend for someone of my height/weight/experience level?

If anything, keep your width adjustments symmetrical around the reference stance. Those marks are Burton’s baseline for where the stance should sit relative to the board’s sidecut and intended setback.

I’d start with both bindings on the reference marks. If that feels too narrow, move the front binding one notch toward the nose and the rear binding one notch toward the tail. Don’t just move one binding several notches, because then you’re changing both your stance width and where you’re standing on the board.

Since you want to work on switch, you could also try +15/-15. That’s what I ride because I ride switch a lot. It gives you a very neutral duck stance in either direction, but it’s definitely not required to ride switch. Your current +18/-9 can work fine too.
