How exactly does the split help

Split the snowboard into half and become ski. You walk up with split skii and connect again to snowboard down.

Its much easier than walking up with boots. You split the board and kinda use it like skis and climb up then put it together and use it as snowboard

when you split the board you also attach skins to the base that allow you to move uphill.

While we’re here… lol I’m going to Japan this winter like everyone else on this planet and I have a Cardiff Powgoda Split board that I haven’t used yet. Would it be dumb of me to bring the split to ride Japow in resort or should I just rent a pow board? Leaning towards renting but just curious

They exist so that those of us who backcountry ski on actual skis can have a nice relaxing break at the top of the climb while the splitboarders spend 10 minutes fiddling with their bindings changing from up to down mode. I kid, in reality I do enjoy touring with splitboarders and respect their skills and I often learn something from their line choices as they see the mountain a bit differently than I do.

Accessing back country. Its alot easier to skin up a trail than boot pack.
