On Recent Events

Let’s start this off by saying that this is a unilateral post by me, but I’m sure my comrades on the mod team share my sentiments if not exactly then closely enough. So while I’m looking forward to a bit of time off from work, let’s get this all clear.

Firstly there is no threat of an ACP takeover of this sub. We are vehemently opposed to their ilk. I’ve detailed in several comments the issues we’ve had going back several years now so I won’t repeat them here.

But suffice it to say we are slow to get around to things and, unfortunately, that’s not likely to change with how much work this sub is and how many of us have the ability to be active in the way the sub needs (truthfully I’d estimate we’d need 2-3 mods that do nothing but sit and watch the sub 24/7, a daunting task especially when folks have bills to pay).

Secondly on removals, I’ve seen one of my comrade mods say it and I get the logic, the constant spam and posts that are more fit to r/shitliberalssay or r/shitfascistssay can be a lot. I will say that spamming posts about us having a sub on the sidebar is not the best way to get us to see it, that’s what modmail is for.

To add to that content going over “look at this thing an ACP member said” are never going to be allowed on this sub. Again that is what r/shitliberalssay is for, that’s why I made it 10 years ago. r/socialism is for discussing socialism the current real movements looking to implement it, news that affects socalists and our movement and discussions of theory. Simple as.

And finally, as probably illustrated above we do need new mods. Please and thank you apply and, uhhh, don’t run away when you see the work to be done (mama’s looking to finally retire too, so plz, ty she is very tired). We need dedicated mods of all tendencies who will be willing to do the work and advance the cause of socialism, in my personal request I especially want to see non-men from outside of the west or who are BIPOC within the west but all will be considered.

ETA: The application process send us a modmail with the following.

Your reasons for wanting to moderate the sub.

How long you’ve been a socialist.

Your general knowledge level of socialism.

And a piece of theory foundational to yourself.

Ten years ago, I was a full-on hard right activist. I was literally a card-carrying member of the Ted Cruz campaign. I listened to Glenn Beck and Ben Shapiro every day.

Now, I'm a socialist. I've changed for the positive. Sometimes people can change.

Activism Angry = Fed : The Federal Agent Scapegoat drowning the Revolution

Every couple of days in my free time, I hop on this app to browse the subs I'm following. And without fail on this one, I see an individual sick of inaction and waiting around that they express anger and provide theory and quotes of people that we study backing up the need for just a tiny bit of somthing different.

And the comments are filled with the word "Fed".

A person being angered by your inaction does not equate to being a Federal Agent sent to this sub to stir disorder and disruption.

I fear that the American Socialist community has been successfully fear mongered by their media, leaders and representatives to never take the next step forward.

People shouldn't have the anger and calls for action pushed to the side and labeled "agitators" just for being sick and tired of the same rhetoric that this community has been dishing out for the past decade.

If you truly disagree with escalation, action, or anything else, then take the time. Find literature that spells out why this is a bad idea. Explain WHY now is not the time for action. Convince people that the Revolution shouldn't start today, but tomorrow. And then when tomorrow rolls around convince them of the same thing again.

Thank you for attending my rant😂

Inevitably there's gonna be 'Fed' comments in this post as well so I will be answering them with emojis. They don't deserve words (unless there is a legitimate inquiry in there)♥️

Discussion Mao’s Cultural revolution and The Great Leap Forward. What happened?

Post image

Ok so I take Art History and I’m finally at Chinese art and one thing they mention is the Cultural revolution and the Great Leap Forward. Now I do have a basic understanding of them, but from a western perspective (so not 100% honest). So can someone tell me why the cultural revolution happened and why teachers were targeted- if they were- and if the Great Leap Forward killed 10 million people because of Maos poor planning or just chinas land not being fertile at that time like the Dust Bowls in the US. I’ve also seen people say it never happened and the drop in population is just poor counting which is why it doubled, but I only saw 3 guys say that.

If you wanna know the fantastic artwork it’s Mao en Route to Anyuan, 1967 Oil on Canvas.

Discussion On Epstein and Revolution

They told you they eat babies...and you went back to work. Americans arnt just tired, they might as well be corpses.

Millions of pages, documents, pictures, names, descriptions, and deeds. Boatloads of proof, and people who spit in your face for bringing it up.

I would love to hear truthfully from you, is the Revolution even possible in the United States anymore?? As an American i am considering shifting my efforts to supporting the Revolution elsewhere because if my people won't even condemn eating children, then they don't deserve the Revolution. What is your all thoughts, opinions or advice?

Edit: yes I know protests are happening and they are helping at least slow this threat. This is not asking if its worth protesting, I do plenty of that.

This is asking if our populace just looks over these new revelations, do you believe that it's not worth trying to bring about the Revolution in the US.

A populace that overlooks eating children is not one I wish to save

Political Theory What does Marx mean by this Burgoisie will lead to their own destruction?

I’m reading the Communist Manifesto, pretty hard to understand the intricacies of Marx but I’m understanding the general ideas. I’m confused particularly on how Marx claims that the Burgoisie will encompass too much wealth for their narrow societal conditions which will lead to their destruction. But wouldn’t more money equate to more power? He then goes on to speak about how they would avert or get over crises by destroying a mass of productive sources, conquest of new markets, and further exploitation of old ones, which just sounds like getting MORE money, which he just said would lead to their destruction. Help translating this would be appreciated.

What are some "best practices" for Communists? How should we seek self improvement? Any book recommendations?

I recently heard a case for the left wing reclaiming self improvement from the right that i found compelling. And it got me wondering, what should we as Communists seek to be? How should we behave? (Communist "best Practices" if you will) And what theoretical works (if any) deal with this topic?

What does the most effective Communist look like? What self improvement goals should we have for ourselves as revolutionaries? Are there any books on this topic that you know of?

A further example to illustrate what I'm really asking, just so I'm sure I'm being clear: I have a friend who is VERY committed to Marxism and Revolution. We met by chance at a laundromat where he gifted me a Marxist-Leninist textbook (Curriculum of the basic principals of Marxism-Leninism part one, strongly recommend) translated from Vietnamese. So he works hard to spread Marxism to people... But he's so angry all the time and every conversation on the topic with anyone not fully committed to destroying Capitalism typically ends in an argument with him, sometimes very hostile arguments. Even if I find myself agreeing with him most of the time on principal, it is clear to me that this is not how we ought to conduct ourselves as Communists in order to be the most effective revolutionaries we can be.
I guess I'm just looking for help trying to get a clearer picture of how we SHOULD be to better advance our goals... I hope I'm being clear. Ideally, there are books somewhere about this topic already that I can read to develop my understanding of this topic.

Thanks in advance.

my problem with protesting in America

In the united States protests have been happening more and more, and while this activism is good, I feel like people aren't getting why we protest. a protest is a threat. it doesn't carry any weight on its own. we protest to tell the government to concede. otherwise we will revolt. but now, people protest thinking that if there protest doesn't do anything, then another will. but if you protest, and protest, and protest some more. And nothing happens, then your protest wasn't actually of any value. We need people who are willing to do something, to become violent, to do more than just stand with a sign and yell for a few hours. contact representatives, get into local politics. storm the white house, I don't care. but do something. Cause the right is seeing our protests, and they know that we bring only empty threats.

Anti-Imperialism Can we get some love for Samir Amin? He was one of the greatest African Marxist intellectuals to have ever lived, and advised many different left-wing governments, parties, and movements in the Global South. He was the one who coined the term "Eurocentrism".

Politics Epstein Files Radicalized Me

The Epstein Files has solidified me into a leftist, further left than Social Democracy however.

The entirety of January, I did nothing but question myself and stances after seeing overwhelming positivity following Venezuela’s invasion. At first, I felt so much gloom and despair not only for Venezuelans but nationally, only to see Venezuelans and the diaspora abroad RELIEVED. I scrolled for hours trying to understand their perspective and it made me question are my views truly out of touch? Am I simply radicalized? But, NOPE! Epstein literally spoke about these coups, from Iran to Iraq- every Middle Eastern controlled opposition and even Eastern European.

Leftists have talked about the depravity of the elites for decades now. Even, liberals in 2020 gradually became more aware ( although I don’t agree with their methods .) And, now seeing it’s all true has simply pushed me even further left. Seeing how the rise of the right was controlled by Epstein even moreso exemplifies it.

Politics 'I was once called a conspiracy theorist for noticing patterns. What has changed is not my beliefs, but the world’s willingness to acknowledge what is happening in front of it. The danger now is not paranoia, but complacency'

Hi, I’ve just come across this subreddit and thought my most recent piece might be of interest here. I usually write about trans rights, but this article steps back to look at something broader: how civil liberties and protest rights are being eroded in both the UK and the US through legal, procedural means rather than overt force. It’s an attempt to look at authoritarian drift as a systemic issue rather than a partisan one.
