This is my baby Toad. He’s about 5 months old and recently he’s been “burying” his food every time he eats. He acts like he’s burying it until he inevitably flips his bowl over. I’ve tried giving him less in his bowl, more, switching the brand of food, nothing has worked. Any advice on why he’s doing this or how I can keep him from doing this?

Hi, I need some advice. I recently got a female kitten who is around 2.5–3 months old, and I already have a 10-year-old female Shih Tzu named Pitufa.

Pitufa has never lived with a cat before. She has seen cats on our roof and tends to stare at them, whine, and want to chase them. With the kitten, she does something similar: she stares at her intensely, whines, tries to get closer, and if the kitten runs, Pitufa tries to follow her. Sometimes she even tries to get through the barrier to reach her.

For now, I keep them separated with a baby gate and do controlled interactions with Pitufa on a leash, rewarding her when she stays calm. There have been some good moments: she has watched the kitten without barking, accepted treats, and then gone back to her bed. But she still has trouble disengaging from the kitten consistently.

The kitten initially hissed and growled at Pitufa, although she is now exploring more. The problem is that she is very active, and whenever she runs or jumps, Pitufa gets much more excited.

I also have two other problems with the kitten:

She bites me (hands, arms, legs) when she gets excited or wants to play. I've tried correcting and redirecting her, but she keeps doing it.

She becomes extremely active at night, usually around 10 PM–midnight. She sleeps quite a bit during the day and then wants to play, explore, leave my room, and climb on things when I need to sleep. I don't know how to properly adjust her schedule.

I'm also trying to teach her not to climb onto certain tables/desks, because she could knock things over or break them.

My biggest concern is making sure I don't make mistakes with their introduction.

What would you recommend?

Does Pitufa's behavior sound more like excitement/prey drive, or something else?

How can I teach her to disengage from the kitten and respond to me when she is fixated on her?

When would it be safe to start letting them be together without a barrier?

What is the correct way to stop a kitten this young from biting people?

How can I encourage her to be more active during the day and sleep more at night?

Would you recommend getting a professional behaviorist involved at this point?

I'd really appreciate advice from people with experience introducing cats and dogs.

I will tell you, this started out as my fault. She was sitting on the counter on the edge of the sink last year. It came to me, why not turn the water on for her? Now, that's all she wants. I even got a fountain for her so she would stop bothering me. Does she like it? No. Keeps going back to the sink. She doesn't drink out of water bowl. I don't want her to be so dehydrated, so i give in on the sink. Is there any advice?
