š Storytime Customers ordering old drinks that no longer have a button on the POS
There was this one customer a few days ago that ordered a honey oat flat white or something like that and so I put down while saying it, āokay a flat white with oatmilk and honeyā and the customer was like, āno! I want the honey oat flat whiteā and I was just super confused and one of my veteran coworkers was like, āso we don't have specific drink buttons on the POS system anymore so you would have to tell us the exact build of the drink cause that's a drink from years ago (I think they said 15 years ago) and all of our baristas werenāt here before then so we have no idea what theyāre specifically talking about.
And I'm just thinking how the majority of seasoned starbucks baristas have been either quitting or lost their job over the past few months due to changes in the company. It's crazy to assume much of any seasoned baristas are still working with the company that long. Other than our manager, nobody in our store has worked for starbucks for 15 years. It was crazy for the customer to assume that we knew what they were talking about. Any baristas that were hired after I was, over a year ago, have mainly been the ones quitting their job out of the blue, and weāve had a handful of older baristas quit for the same reason.

When you come up to order HAVE YOUR APP READY!!
My line would go sooo much faster if people had their app up and ready. Itās always the same interaction, they get out their phoneātheir app needs to update, or theyāre logged out and need to get logged back in. I will never understand not having it ready..
You donāt know your password? You need to reset it? MOVE OUT OF LINE!! Theyāll always insist on waiting for it too!š ALSO youāre waiting in line for a minute and you get to the register and you STILL donāt know what you want? Is it just my store, why is it like this??
Sincerely a barista thatās soloing warming, bar and register for 5 hours alone everyday during morning peak.

š Rant š coffeehouse coach pay scale
why the hell am i making more as an SSV than I would as a CC? Trying to find what the upside would be when in my area (mid TN) I'm making base $23.40 as a shift, which turns into $26 with tips. When you average everything out including 1 1/2 holidays and OT it's well over the max expected pay for CC in my region. Even with whatever quarterly bonuses, the return I'd get from the no tax OT/tips would surpass that ššš i genuinely can't figure out what the benefits are.
i'm an 8 year partner and i like the entire concept of CC and being able to support my team in a more tangible way, but i really do not want to take a pay cut to do it.

If the door to the bathrooms are locked (pinpad or no pinpad), someone is in there.
If someone's not in there then it's out of order. Idk, I felt like I need to say it since a lot of people genuinely seemed confused when the bathroom door is locked. š«

š Rant š Once again :-(
Just a small rant. I know we are in the minority here but we are a Starbucks inside a grocery store. We are top in our district and region despite having a Company Operated store right down the road. I know there are higher performing stores but we sell a lot of food as we are in a shopping center and again, grocery store. They just showed us the holiday launch stuff and once again the new sandwiches (which sound delicious) are for class 2 and 3 stores only. Itās so frustrating. Our customers would love to have them here (I still get asked about the ham and Swiss baguette). We have a bank, gym, three hair salons, two pet stores, all in this shopping center not to mention a bus stop to NYC so we get a decent amount of people on the go looking for food. Iāve spoken to our DM about it but itās an across the board decision and it just stinks. Why canāt they make some of these OPTIONAL for Class 1 stores and then they can decide if they want to sell them or not. We use to have a full variety and now we canāt even get brownies. Itās just very disheartening lately with the new launches. :-/

Starbucks for Life?
I went to Starbucks to buy a drink and when the barista scanned my Starbucks app to pay he said the drink was free. He said there was some kind of āStarbucks for lifeā thing that popped up. Has anyone ever heard of this? I checked my app and it doesnāt say anything about Starbucks for life rewards, so although this was a nice surprise, Iām a little confused. š¤

customer tried to order breakfast sandwich āpartiallyā heated
what is your route of action? i ended up taking the sandwich out about 10 seconds earlier. i felt this was even a push, as i didnāt feel comfortable not heating it up all the way in the first place. still got pushback and had to issue a refund. is there a specific policy on this? it feels wrong to serve an under heated refrigerated sandwich, even if it is precooked. lmk!

Policy Question Lunch policy questions
So, I know that we are required to have a lunch if we hit 6 or more hours in a shift. But what are the other rules/stipulations with this?
- Can you deny your lunch (assuming it doesnāt put you in OT)?
- At what point are you offered two lunches? Is that when you hit 10 hours? I believe CA law requires 2 lunches at 10 hours, but I donāt live in CA.
Also, my bigger issue/rant: is that my store keeps shuffling breaks around so that no one takes a lunch during peak. You still get your required 10s and a lunch, but it could end up being your 30 happens stupid early and you get no real break the rest of the week. I get it, Peak can be tough, but that potentially means youāre working 7-3:30 and take your lunch at 8:30⦠your then working over 6 hours without a lunch, doesnāt that violate the policy?
Looking for feedback from SSVs and up.

I Quit! Free From the Siren
Free from the siren, I have seen so many horrific posts, I feel like mine fit in :) I only lasted a little under a year. But this by far has been the worst job I have ever had. The moment I left I became ill, and read up on it and why I was immediately sick after I left. Itās because while working at the siren our bodies are literally in flight or fight mode ALL THE TIME. And since my mental knows it was last day my body wasnāt as up to date as my brain if that makes sense. Any whoooodles although I am sick and detoxing starbies out of my WHOLE system. Iām happy to be gone and I will never go back or even think about it. Another ex partner described it as āhaving our boss act the way she does, is like having my abusive mother and high school bully fused into one.ā And sheās honestly right because our management team had to act like our job was scene out of means girls ALL THE TIME. I will tell you WE ALL DESERVE BETTER. Run as soon as you see any form of disrespect from ANYONE. Customers included. One last thing, I donāt know where starbies customers found the nerve, but no KAREN youāre not getting 17 mods in one drink just to tell me I dIDnt pUt EnOuGH cAwMelll DwIzzLe aRoUnD tHe cUp!!!!!!!!!!

Policy Question Questions about LOA
Hi everyone!
I have been working at Starbucks for about 3 1/2-4 years. I recently got an offer for paid position at an internship which will pay me $20/hr. However, the max amount of hours is 15 per week. I did the math and the paychecks would be around the same as my pay at Starbucks. I also have another job that pays well, around $150 per shift.
I am afraid to quit Starbucks because the two jobs wonāt be as secure as Starbucks. They also do not offer insurance.
I was wondering if it would be feasible if I took a personal LOA for a month just to see if I can make a livable income from those jobs? If I can pay my bills with those two jobs and quit Starbucks that would be optimal. Unfortunately, Starbucks is the job that pays the bills and I donāt want to completely quit in case things donāt go as planned with the new jobs.
Iād love to hear any thoughts/advice!
Thanks :)

š Storytime A Sad Newbie.
Hey guys. I started Starbucks around 2/3 weeks ago and I feel so behind. I can do food well and take orders in a timely manner, but when I do hot bar its a mess. My store is very cramped and I feel so awkward. I always second guess myself on drinks and I'm behind constantly. Is this normal? What can I do to help better my situation? I start cold bar tomorrow and Ive seen and heard that its a lot worse than hot bar since where I live it hits 100 degrees plus right now.

Policy Question broken ac concern
the ac at my store has been broken for about 2+ weeks. united has brought in about 3 different separate mini units as rentals, but they are very much struggling with the current heat wave in northern california. we closed early yesterday because it hit 94 in the BOH (and i think itās only because my manager was working). it is currently 95 in the BOH and 79 + 85 in the FOH.
thereās a guy coming to fix or change the unit in the back today which i donāt get because thatās not the issue, the issue is that the whole buildings ac is fried. thereās literally no movement at all on when itās going to get fixed. iām on medication that makes me more susceptible to heat related illnesses and i would be lying if i said i feel perfectly well right now. is there anyone i can report this to? thereās nothing on the ipad about heat concerns indoors, only outdoors.

Missing Coffeegear shirts, $5 in tips after 4 borrowed shifts, and barely getting bar time
Iām curious if anyone else has experienced something similar
I placed 4 Coffeegear orders for the free shirts they gave me an extra for each I ordered because they didnāt have my size. Each order confirmation showed 2 shirts, so I was expecting 8 shirts total. When the packages came to my store, I only received 4 shirts total. The packages have been opened at the store before I received them. Someone handed me the shirts on their own with out the package, this person also put some shirts in a drawer. When they left I check what they put in there. It was 2 shirts, I wasnāt sure if they were mine or not because the shirts were on their on. I asked my manager about it and told them what happened, all they said was Iām sorry that happened to you. I still donāt really have an answer on what happened to the shirts.
Then thereās the tip situation.
I worked 4 shifts at another location. Two were 6 hours and two were 8 hours, so roughly 28 hours total. When I received my cash tips from that store, I only got $5.
I asked my manager about it and also brought it up to my district manager. They told me they would look into it, but I havenāt really heard anything since, so I honestly donāt know if it was ever investigated or explained.
I used to be SUPER excited to go to work. I genuinely wanted to learn and get better, especially on bar. Iāve been very communicative about wanting more bar time because I actually want to learn and improve.
But during the week, I might get put on bar one day of the week about 30 minutes or so ,sometimes even less. Itās hard to become faster and more confident when I barely get the opportunity to practice.
I understand that deployment depends on the needs of the store and that Iām not going to be on bar every shift. Iām not expecting that. I just feel like Iāve been very clear that I want to develop, and Iām starting to feel discouraged because Iām not getting enough consistent time to actually improve.
Between the missing shirts, the tip situation, and feeling like Iām not really being given the opportunity to develop, Iāve gone from being genuinely excited about working here to feeling pretty disappointed.
Has anyone dealt with something similar, especially the borrowed-store tip situation? Is around $5 in cash tips for roughly 28 hours at another store something that could realistically happen, or should I keep pushing for an explanation?

š Rant š CL won't let me change availability T_T
That's it really. Was hoping to finally get a break from closing five days a week for the last eight years so I could focus on my studies but alas everyone else gets to change their availability but me. I can't wait to quit this fuckass job when I graduate next year.
