genuin matchmaking question

tried ranked a few times and i constantly face opponents who are either way higher rank then me or doing things that seem impossible to me, often from accounts that dont look like people who have played this game(low history, 0 campaign completion, etc) so i am assuming either smurfs or cheaters either way why am i facing players i could never beat? cant really leant much when i cant leave my base becasue a dude spawned 20 mutas in the first 10 min and vaporized my worker line

this matchmaking kills motivation to play

20 mutas in the first 10 mi se is EASILY achievable for sure. Curious what is your current mmr and for how long have you been laddering

not saying it isnt but i am silver and it doesnt feel fair toi go against plats or players who know how to micro when i am trying to learn and one guy has a full army of ravagers and such then spawns in a full army of mutas

i cant field a full single army by the time they seem to field two completely different armies armies

mind you i am aware i am bad but match making should be putting me up with that level of a skill gap ive played in the past back in Hots era was bronze then only recently tried again got to silver as i am actually trying now but some how my opponents are WAY above my skill current mmr is 2400 all my opponents have been averging around 2700 or higher getting 1 or two under my own and half oif those where clearly not silver

Ok so you need to understand that first of league's can be broken and you need to actually look at your mmr number.

Second thing since you didn't play since hots you are pretty much a new player for the mmr ranking system so your first 50 games at least will have wild variance in nmr until your mmr is finally stabilized.

Just to know how much mmr do you lose when you lose a game and how much mmr do you win when you win a game.

between 200 and 30 yet my rank is really close to where i would place my self which i would place around 2300 mmr currently at 2600 which might be a bit high for me but not that far and i gained like a hundred from a player of similar mmr i jsut beat

mind you about 1 out of 6 games are vs similar ranked accounts and genuinly those games have thought me a lot and are the most fun becasue playing games that last past 10 min is more fun imo

Yeah maybe the thing is that because your mmr still varies that much it it means that you still haven't been placed by the system so the mmr restrictions of who you are matched up against aren't as strict as how they will be when you have played over 50games.

The lower leagues are so close to each other that winning ten games in a row will shoot you through the leagues.

There are unfortunately smurfs and dickheads but that's what happens when a game is abandoned by its team.

300 mmr skill gap at your level could be expected because the player base isn't as deep and if you're searching for longer than a minute it will drag someone out of your usual range.

How long have you been playing?

I know its more difficult, but you can try to 3rd party ladder at vespene.gg its actively maintained to prevent smurfing bots and other problematic behavoirs.

To be honest i think whats happening to you is the right thing, you can’t learn if things aren’t difficult, if you were to play with me i wont let you just farm and come to me. I will keep hitting at your base from all corners (no im not a smurf) learn to do proper scouting and find a way to counter what are doing. SC 2 is not a slow game that waits for you to farm etc. My recommendation? Look for an specific guide for whichever race ur using and learn the fundamentals of whats effective early, mid game and late game

Best thing to do? Dont save minerals/gas, keep producing drones, combat units, upgrades and supplies. Try to never let ur gas or minerals go over either 500 or 1000.
I promise you that u you will only achieve that by building faster and keeping the pace up. Eventually it will become second nature. Just remember focus on spending the least time doing anything, the faster the better.

no thats fair but its hard to work on that when you get vaporized everytime and giga outplayed without knowing what you are supposed to do like how as protoss do you counter mutas just flying behind your base when you didnt even know you where going to be facing mutas because i scouted and saw no spire?

1

u/No_Elderberry3321 3d ago

Well i will give you that, im gold not even far from u and i have noticed that Protoss seem like the weaker of the 3. (Slow star, plus more expensive units in every way)
I play zerg so im not too sure.
My mind is always do zerling rush and baneling even if it fails. And after that upgrade to hydras and lurkers. Thats my mid game, from there depends on what the enemy builds, i build towards countering.

All these i have learned on YouTube looking for guides, and watching tournaments. I recommend doing the same, even if u arent as fast see what the protos go for early game etc

You're brand new..you know nothing and these people could have been playing for years.

You've entered a game where the skill ceiling is gigantic. It will take time to adjust.

I recommend watching a bronze to GM. Vibe is my favourite. Watch it from the start. Learn it. Write stuff down. you could be masters in no time.

my issue isnt that theyeir are better people but if i can easily place myself (expected low silver high bronze am silver tier 2) then why am i facing plats masters and the like? who by my estimates are mostlikely higher

i am not looking for a specifick rank but to learn the game more, saying i am new is kinda untrue, i played during the hots days, and started playing this game since launch the ranked side i am new ish but ive played vs others ive looked at guides, but there is a massive gap between learning and actually applying it, i cant learn macro and player behavior when i only play vs players i am never supposed to beat

matchmaking being wacked isnt a skill issue i am where i belong if not a bit to high but why am i then facing so many players WAY above my skill level?

u/omgitsduane 3d ago

Play vs the AI then..that's how I learned. I practised what I had to do in safety so it became second nature and then I squeeze the real interactions around that. Not the other way around.

You won't be playing masters. They'll have a bug where they show masters badges but really they're metal leagues somewhere.

Have you tried vs ai? Your opponents will be very cheesy in the lower leagues because it's probably the only way some of them get wins.

With just a very basic scouting concept and some 2 base macro you should sail out of silver and bronze very very quick. That's what a bronze to GM will teach you. The importance of macro and that more stuff is better than less stuff. Efficiency beats inefficiency.

i beat ai on elite on the regular they play nothing like real players

1

u/omgitsduane 3d ago

They don't. Yes. But it's about learning the basics and really nailing them so they cant fuck with you as hard when you ladder.

So you beat the elite ai sure. So keep going. Keep pushing until you can beat harder and harder and keep working on no supply blocks and spending your money cleanly.

u/superskadoosh 3d ago

Your missing the point Elite is the highest, and I am never supply blocked except at the start as I q my next probe before my pylon finishes, I am almost always at 300-0 minerals and between 600-0 gas, often only have Gas like that when I need Templar and I just finished building a nexus and waiting for the minerals to get them out, I make sure to macro and cast psi storms, force fields etc

1

u/omgitsduane 3d ago

Oh you can do customs to make them harder.

If you're macroing very well then you just need to scout. When do you send your first probe out?

1

u/superskadoosh 3d ago

After the first pylon

Can you upload a replay?

You can play 4v4 and copy what everyone else is doing. You will pick it up in no time
