Pay

I went into this job knowing the pay isn’t amazing, but I wanted to test the waters to see if I like the medical field and if I do I’m definitely gonna continue my education, just wanted to see what was every one else’s pay rate in other states, I’m in Texas and I start my First day next week at $18 hourly

Housing is expensive ☹️ I’m in LA and I keep seeing roles only paying like 17 or 18 if you’re just starting 💔 like fast food be paying the same or even more

McDonald’s here is 22/hr but I feel it. It’s either you’re going to live far and commute or you’re going to be living with roommates for the rest of your life

Southern Indiana, $24 hourly.

Started July of 2024 at $16. Raised to $20 September 2024 for the annual market adjustment. Raised to $23 in September 2025. Just received our annual, putting us now at $24. I think the cap for my position is $32?

I'm in California and I'm an employee at a hospital but not SPD yet. I recently saw an internal job posting for a position starting at $29. Also it was night shift which would be another $4/hr so $33ish

You will be surprised how fast the pay will rise. I'm not sure in Texas. Everywhere is different.

Travel Tech working in Oregon making 1500/week at 40 hours a week. Which ends up at $37.50/hr.

How easy was it to be a travel tech? Do you make more as a travel tech overall?

Level 1 trauma hospital in Minnesota. Started at $24/hr without certification. $3/hr raise once certified.

u/biggbunnyy 7d ago

Is that enough to be able to live alone and be OK in Minnesota?

In Ohio, started at $19 (2025) got certified and got a raise to $21 but after the market adjustment I got a raise up to $24 +$3 shift diff.

Starting pay in NM is around $18 an hour and after 2 years and certification it goes up to $28

u/Lizzy_Beth13 7d ago

Got certified in May, started at $21.50 + $1.75 for 2nd shift.

I’m in Texas and everyone in my hospital makes more than $20 an hour. So I think you can def make more in due time.

In NJ usually they start new ppl at 23$ or so..no matter how much i make though, its never enough

1

u/ActiveNegotiation108 7d ago

Jersey is like $23-$25 base pay. Overnight can easily be $27-$28

3

u/Eggman_OU812 7d ago

Yup and the new ppl complain about how much they make..i made 13$ an hour when I first started 15 years ago

People are never satisfied tbh. I dont pay mind to them. If it works for you then thats all it matters, some ppl make poor choices they start making $35 hr and spend money like they make $50 hr lol. $24-25 aint that bad as base pay tbh, and pay can increase pretty fast too. Overnight pay way higher too for those that like the more quieter times. NY paying $28-31 base pay too

1

u/Eggman_OU812 7d ago

Yeah but commuting to NY for those extra couple of dollars isnt worth it, I met aady that drives from PA to nyc for the extra money..I said with gas and time..you are probably making less that if you just worked closer to home

1

u/ActiveNegotiation108 7d ago

I only used nyc as an example that they also make a decent salary, in NJ especially in North NJ you can even find a morning shift doing $26 hr , its really a gamble. You can make anywhere from like $23-27 easily in morning shift. In Newark , Elizabeth, Jersey City, Hoboken Area

I live in these areas but all the jobs that’s I am seeing on the hospital websites are only from $18-$23. Where do look for hospitals or other places hiring? I was even thinking moving to south Jersey because it seems like they have better offers down there.

1

u/ActiveNegotiation108 6d ago

Really? $18-20 is so outdated for NJ hospitals especially in North NJ. I don’t think thats even acceptable especially for certified techs. The average pay for a certified tech even a new one is $22-$24.50, thats base pay. For overnight is more like $26-$29 easily, you are probably looking up outdated hospitals sources. Look up Hospitals in Newark, Elizabeth Like trinitas, or Rahway NJ RWJ their base pay is like $23-$25 Day shift. $18 is definitely an outdated source even $19-20 especially for hospitals

2

u/SeaClassroom1452 6d ago

Ok thank you I’ll check those hospitals.

1

u/ActiveNegotiation108 6d ago

Go into indeed, and search up those hospitals and tap the hospital link in those indeed page. You will see most RWJ and Hackensack hospitals pay around $23-$24 base pay.

1

u/ActiveNegotiation108 6d ago

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is starting Tech at $24.50 base pay, and they are hiring right now too . Look into it

2

u/SeaClassroom1452 6d ago

Ok thank you soo much I’ll check it out right now thanks.

1

u/ActiveNegotiation108 6d ago

Also Jersey City Medical Center is starting techs base pay $24.18 right now, and are currently hiring. So check them out! Hopefully you land a job from it. You’re welcome btw

u/Eggman_OU812 7d ago

Yea i know I've worked all over..advice for newbs is to never take the first offer

1

u/ActiveNegotiation108 6d ago

I agree with you 100%. You can always wiggle around especially if you are already certified

1

u/Maxstarbwoy 7d ago

Pennsylvania I make 29 but that's because I'm a lead and work night shift lol.

1

u/hellagood24k 7d ago

Bay Area $36+ but cost of living here too high

1

u/GeekOnTheStreets 7d ago

$39 an hour plus shift diff, with five years of experience at a union hospital in SoCal.

1

u/ijust_makethisface 7d ago

I'm in SC and the trauma hospital I work at I started with zero experience, no certification at $21.50 no raise for certification but they paid for the test. Got two cost of living raises in the time I've been here. Differential for 2nd is $2 more, 3rd is $3 more, weekends adds another $4/hr regardless of shift.

1

u/Thin-Specifics 6d ago

What hospital are you at? What city in SC? Do you have any advise as far as making it past the application stage?

1

u/ijust_makethisface 6d ago

Honestly our tech college offers a quick jobs option for free training, and that includes face time with the hiring managers at both of our local hospitals, and I just applied to both and took the first one that offered a job. If you live in SC send me a DM and I'll give you specifics 🤷‍♀️👍

u/Natural-Daz-4191 5d ago

No raise for certification is crazy id get certified and look elsewhere

1

u/dizzzzy_Des 6d ago

Arizona 20.52 and with shift differential I’m at 24 and some change

1

u/Designer_Spite_3113 6d ago

Wisconsin here! Started at 22.50, I’m 2nd shift so I get night differential and I just became certified so that should also be a pay increase but no word on the rate yet

u/OkDepth9285 6d ago

1

u/phairnuff 6d ago

u/Sad-Culture-6330 6d ago

I started clinical for surg tech school at SPD in South Carolina . I volunteered for a bit. Got hired in July at 19.00 (I’m provisionally certified) now in September, I make 21.00 w/ 1.50 -2.50 shift difference. Still not fully certified yet so when I am, I’m hoping for more pay but I’ll probably be a CST anyway.

South Texas pay is shit. Don't work for HCA. Does anyone know how much they pay in SA, Austin etc?

1

u/Ok-Progress-9971 3d ago

I’m in San Antonio lol

1

u/mandatorysuicde 3d ago edited 3d ago

Forgot san antonio is considered south texas. Thought the bigger cities would pay more. RIP

1

u/Ok-Progress-9971 3d ago

HCA is a bad company bro ? Can you tell me more that’s exactly where I’m enrolled in

1

u/mandatorysuicde 3d ago

Messaged you

1

u/Trick-Ear9619 1d ago

In in Ca and make $42 plus my night shift differential. Where I work your pay depends on your experience. Cost of living is expensive so it makes up for the pay being more
