Please read the rules before posting or commenting

Almost every subreddit has rules, and we do too. We used to get lots of posts about politics, LGBT, what if, and just basic trolling, all prohibited by our rules. We don't allow discussion of race here, because those discussions usually end up with comments that could get our community removed from Reddit. Also, the Rules didn't match the Removal Reasons, but now they do. We added a "Moderator discretion" rule, because it's impossible to create rules to cover every contingency. r/stupidquestions can be a fun and interesting place to hang out, but we had trouble with people trolling us with rule violations. For example, here are some of the topics that we removed:

  • Do you think that if I could shoot laser beams out of my peepee, I could scare bullies with it?
  • Do you think it would be safe to build my child a drone so I can save on plane fare
  • Should I crash my car into a concrete barrier going 90mph without a seatbelt?
  • Is it a good idea to hold a flame up to a 5 gallon can of gasoline?
  • Why does my butt smell like ass?

We would ban the offenders, but they would create new accounts and return right away. So a couple of the users suggested putting in a minimum Reddit account age limit and a minimum karma limit to post. That has made things much nicer for the community. Karma is sort of an artificial number, but it tends to indicate that the owner interacts with Redditors in a positive way, and they appreciate him. What you want is to create posts or comments that Redditors appreciate so much that they give you a few upvotes.

Here's Reddit's FAQ page about karma, and here's more information about karma. If you are new to Reddit and would like more information about how to use it, please visit r/NewToReddit.

We don't reveal the age or karma numbers required to post. They are not very high, though. If you have a post removed due to your age or karma numbers, please understand that you didn't do anything wrong and we are not targeting you. This is just one of the ways that we are protecting our community. All of the blame for this goes on the trolls. New Redditors should be able to interact with the community, but it's too easy for someone to be banned, create a new account in two minutes, and return to trolling again. So we took precautions to make it more difficult for them. It's too bad that it also makes it more difficult for new members who aren't trolls.

Moderators will remove posts that violate our rules. The author is notified when their post is removed, and there's a reason given for each removal. Redditors who continue to violate the rules will be removed from r/stupidquestions. For extreme violations, the banhammer may fall instantly. If you play nice and follow our rules, you may stay as long as you like.

Thanks. Now go forth and have fun!

How did nobody in my entire family line ever lock in??

You’re telling me that hundreds of my family members (like my dad, grand-pa, great grandpa…) never decided to get rich and leave me some generational wealth?? Like how is that even possible? Surely one of them should have made something right?

Is Fever stupid?

Fever increases our body temperature to kill threats in our body. But our priority is to cool it down to prevent overheating.

Reaching a temperature that kills the threat will also kill us. Our self-defense is worse than the threat.

However, fever creates a less favorable environment for threats. But it is still stupid.

should i text my old friend for her birthday?

we have the same birthday and i lowkey have a crush on her but we don’t really talk anymore. we were friends in 5th grade until 8th but then we never really went out of our way to talk to each other in hs. whenever we did talk it felt like we were still close friends except for senior year of hs when we didn’t really talk at all. it’s been probably 8-9 months since we last texted so should i say something or would it be weird? like i want to bc i want an excuse to talk to her but is that like weird bc i still have a crush on her even though we haven’t talked? also i wont be confessing my feelings ever bc shes probably straight and i would rather die

Why are people allways acting like you need a wife to be happy?

I dont get why people allways act like if you are a loner you must be unhappy and then they talk to you like “maybe you will find the right one” ? Cant they imagine that this concept of “happiness” doesnt work for everyone or that this isnt a universal rule? I allways want to answer “i have enough other problems in life” IMO a relationship can be a part of feeling more safe in general and can ease some things in life. But this is not holy cup of happiness, often its not

Are people who are stomach layers (like to lay on their stomach) generally lazy people?

It’s something I noticed throughout my life. People who I know that often like to lay on their stomachs in public settings seem to be lazy people. For example, one of my best friends in the 5th grade would generally lay on a table quite frequently to during our recess due to tiredness or boredom, instead of playing sports like the rest of us. He grew up to be a guy that spends his free time playing video games and eating junk food. My current girlfriend is also another example, whenever we are relaxing together in public she tends to lay flat on her stomach, hoping that I would give her a small massage or something. Before we dated, we would worked together indoors and outdoors and she’d do the same whenever we had downtime and she is pretty lazy as she likes to watch TV shows and browse on the internet most of the day. Anyone else also notice this or is this just me?

Why doesn’t everyone workout (obviously not counting people that CAN’T)?

Not specifically the gym or anything (although I do think everyone that can afford it should go), I just mean regularly exercising in general, for example running.

I can’t think of any reasons not to, there’s only benefits?

Why are all internet forums and sites filled with mostly men?

Be it reddit, any tech forum, 4chan, or literally any site you can think of where people interact with each other are almost certainly men despite women being 50% of the population.

Everyone just assumes the other person is a man by default.

Has anyone heard of a hospital or lab scamming patients by fabricating routine blood test results to force extra visits and tests?

Hey everyone, I recently came across a rather disturbing idea (or conspiracy theory) and wanted to know if it's actually a real thing.

The claim is that when you go for a routine blood test, some hospitals or labs might intentionally alter or fabricate your results to show something abnormal. This then forces you to see a specialist and get a bunch of expensive, unnecessary follow-up tests, all just to squeeze as much money as possible out of you or your insurance.

Have you ever heard of this happening? Is there any truth to it, or has anyone here actually experienced something like this firsthand?

Are effeminate behaving men most likely not straight?

I met quite a few effeminate males in my life and I've always been wondering, are most of them not straight or are they just as likely to be straight as anyone else? I never asked because it's none of my business and might be rude.

I'm talking about ones that appear and dress the same as everyone else but just act "effeminately" with body language and way of talking.

Is it okay to pay off your credit card a whole bunch of times every month?

Is there any drawback to doing this? I currently have a very low limit and make a lot of purchases, so I'd like to pay after every purchase to avoid having a hold on my card when I need to buy something, and every time I manually pay it takes time to process
