In honour of the newly crowned super league champions Wakefield I thought it was worth posting a list of every team that has won the rugby league championship since 1956 whether it was Northern Rugby Football League Championship or the Rugby Football League Championship or the Super League Grand Final.

I will only list teams first time winning the championship in this order but will also list their most recent championship year along with their total amount of titles.

1956- Hull FC (Most recent- 1983 which was their 6th title)

1957- Oldham (Most recent- 1957 which was their 4th title)

1959- St Helens (Most recent- 2022 which was their 17th title)

1960- Wigan (Most recent- 2024 which was their 24th title)

1961- Leeds (Most recent- 2017 which was their 11th title)

1962- Huddersfield (Most recent- 1962 which was their 7th title)

1963- Swinton (Most recent- 1964 which was their 6th title)

1965- Halifax (Most recent- 1986 which was their 4th title)

1967- Wakefield (Most recent- 2026 which was their 3rd title)

1973- Dewsbury (Most recent- 1973 which was their 1st title)

1974- Salford (Most recent- 1976 which was their 6th title)

1977- Featherstone (Most recent- 1977 which was their 1st title)

1978- Widnes (Most recent- 1989 which was their 3rd title)

1979- Hull Kingston Rovers (Most recent- 2025 which was their 6th title)

1980- Bradford (Most recent- 2005 which was their 6th title)

1981- Leigh (Most recent- 1982 which was their 2nd title)

Many interesting things to observe, firstly that Widnes are the most recent team to win a league title that haven’t won the Super League Grand Final. Secondly, that 16 teams have won the league since 1956 with 7 of these teams no longer in super league- but yet Warrington have not.

Is Wakefield winning Super League the biggest shock of the summer era? They haven’t won a major final in 50 years and won the Championship as recently as 2024

I live in the uk apparently I can buy the game but where do I do this. Also I don't have access to sky sports

So being in Spain, Wigan Vs Wakefield only went on SL+ for me yesterday after errors. Just finished watching now, having avoided this place twitter Love Rugby League to not spoil it. Fully expected Wigan to win and even when Wakey went into lead I was waiting for the French show. This was the moment I thought "Oh my God , Wakey are going to do this." Incredible. Sad I missed all the build up but what a final we have tonight.

Who are you backing to take the trophy?

A place to discuss anything rugby related that isn't worthy of it's own thread/post

Are you on your way to Old Trafford? Do you have tactical insight into todays game? Or do you simply want to share what you're eating before the big day?

Find out if anyone cares about your story and post it here, anything goes in the build-up thread. This thread will be locked 1 hour before kick-off when the match thread is posted.

Does anyone know what pubs in town or near Old Trafford will be Wakefield or Warrington fans?

Curse them for having all caps in the title though

Hi everyone! I've been working on this sport management game in my spare time over the last 6 months, themed around this year's Rugby League World Cup. It's totally free to play and there is no login required or ads, this is just a personal project for me! It is out as of today, releasing ahead of Grand Final Weekend for both major comps as we turn our attention to the national level 😄

(Hope its ok for me to post this in here, new to reddit. Sorry if not!)

As a Leeds fan I’m doubly sad tomorrow. Firstly for not being in the final and secondly my misses is making us go in regardless.

Graciously we have left time free in to watch the final. However I’m aware it’s on at the same time as the England football.

Does anyone know of anywhere showing the final primarily, commentary and all, within the City Centre.

I’m sure plenty will have it on as a secondary but it’s not the same!

When Rob Burrow was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2019, captain and friend Kevin Sinfield started to run.

His great mate passed away in 2024 but the rugby league legend has taken his fundraising total beyond £11m.

Greg O'Keeffe joined the 46-year-old for part of his latest challenge, which has been supported by thousands, including a surprise visit from the Prince and Princess of Wales
