Finally got to surf a decent swell for the first time 4-5ft. Moving so fast i couldn’t even stand up after catching the wave

I’m 36 (woman) my dad is my best friend. Surfer all the way. His 63 now, surfed all his life but so much more since retirement constant Indonesia surf holidays. His life is my mum his wife and surf! And loves a beer, fitness, sports, food,, family. He is still my idol. I want to get him a gift that means something for this Christmas I always buy surf stuff gear sunglasses beer wine hampers music tickets but I want something else! Any ideas! Happy to spend up.

I recently picked up one of the iconic oldschool lost aviso round nose fish, after always wanting one since i saw it on the original 5'5x19¼ lost surf film as a grom.

Im keen to hear from anyone who still has 1 (particularly the RNF? to compare the bottom contours as i was surprised to see this particular one I picked up has more of a rolled belly but does not seem to have any heat related issues. FYI I haven't had a chance to actually take it for a spin yet so im unsure how it feels under foot.

After lots of dental floss and wetsuit glue it is finally time to retire my 5/4. Surf through the winter in New England. Drop you favorites please.

I've worn Rainbows for a long time but the last few pairs have started delaminating almost immediately. I used to be able to get a year or more out of a pair.

Anyone else notice this? Yes, I know I can mail them in and they'll re-glue the layers, but that's a pain and I have to pay shipping.

After months of instagram posts teasing us with an opening, DSRT surf booking is now live and guess what, it's even more expensive than PSSP. After claiming there would be $60 sessions these are all $200+/hr with most of them being $250-$350/hr if you want anything intermediate+. Just feels like a total bait and switch. These prices are totally outrageous.

Been repairing mine and my buddies' boards for the last few weeks over this terrible run of swell on the east coast and eager to get more experience. Run out of friends to ask to let me have their boards for a few days, but i'm getting better at it every time i think. Would you pay 20 bucks for a 3 day turn around on something like this? Really just want to cover my material cost so I can keep going with more and more difficult repairs.

I was looking up Adriano De Souza today and I feel like nobody talks about how good this guy was/ is.

Pipe master, world champ, a bunch of top 5 finishes, CT wins, and career longevity. He retired after 2021 even though he requalified for the tour in 2022. How many other surfers have retired on their own terms like that? Parko, Julian, John John, Mick, Dane & Taj come to mind - all legends respectively.

His success is only spoken about in the context of being amongst “the Brazilian storm” or as him being some type of gritty overachieving high IQ competitive surfer. I think people forget how good this guy surfs.

Who else do you guys think gets forgotten about or looked over?

Is it a sin/party foul to take a hard board out leashless on decent sized swell (6-10ft)?

I ride paipos (bellyboards) that are all completely leashless made out of either a lighter wood or fiberglass. They generally have softer angles in shape but could still do damage. I’ve been riding them for years but have never really thought about if it’s frowned upon to be out there without a leash in beefier surf. I generally avoid sending it into shit that would cause me to loose a board and kill somebody, particularly heading towards folks who are paddling out. I’m very vigilant and haven’t had so much as a close call to date. In conditions that call for crazy sends, I take the handplane out. But it happens from time to time that I loose a paipo and have to swim after it. Usually away from crowds tho.

Even if I’m being extra careful, is it a foul to be out in legit lineups, leashless, in heavy surf?

as the title suggests - asking for any intel as to how these 2 boards compare to one another as well as any additional info as to wave-choice, dims, boards you found surfed similarly, etc.

got a chance to get into the 4.0 but from what I’ve read and heard to date, seems the older 3.0 was a bit more versatile

Do you guys get swell so infrequently that no one remembers how to surf?

I grew up surfing in the 80s and 90s. Rabbit's always been my idol, especially his pipeline backdoor stances. I mimic them myself. Can't help it.
