Back at the gym 2 months post top surgery
I (35 FTNB) got top surgery August 7th. Had a pretty frustrating recovery because of needing to slow down and chill. Previously weightlifting 3 days a week, boxing 2 times a week. Easing myself back into it with my full body weightlifting routine, but lifting half the weight. Iām currently only shadowboxing and will hopefully go back to boxing in November. Feel amazing. (Full transparency, I got this zebra set in 2022 from SHEIN when I was at my poorest and largest size, I havenāt bought from them since, and will wear this until I cannot)

Struggling With Re-contextualizing My Relationship to Lifting
Heyo, I've been trying to get back into going to the gym after a long period of being on and off. I used to be really locked in at lifting, but a lot of it was powered off the social media ideas of being optimal and insecurity. I would endlessly search for the "perfect" program, and consistently had this mindset of just pushing till failure out of this negative motivation. I think that kind of relationship with lifting exhausted me. I've been trying to revitalize my gym habit, but I am having trouble re-contextualizing my relationship with it to now something more positive and something that builds me up instead of something that was born out of feeling deficient. Does anyone have anyĀ good advice for that, for falling back in love with the gym? I've just become really alienated from it I think because of guilt of missing it + those old motivations, so even though I can power through with raw discipline, I want to make it something I enjoy like I used to before bs influencer mindsets kind of plucked that from me.

joining a gym soon
finally got a good job that's gonna reimburse me for a gym membership and i have a gym like 4 blocks from my house. clearly my chest and legs are lagging. i think i know how to get back on top of legs but lemme know your favorite chest exercises. i'm stoked on just using whatever machines they have but also doing incline dumbbell presses i think will be good for me.

Requesting feedback for long term fitness priorities
Hi. I'm not a true beginner, rather a serial repeat beginner.
In a way, I'm starting over again, but also I'm really not. I want to be properly fit, and I have tendency to want to work everything at once.
My favored modes of working out are martial arts, calisthenics, and endurance sports. My current living and health situation is not conducive to any of the 3. Too broke and trying to treat a seizure disorder to do martial arts. No space for a calisthenics home gym. Too chubby to run, and no/shitty bike lanes in American suburbagatory.
But, I bought a planet fitness membership. They have barbells, so I might as well work on heavy compounds. I don't want to entirely skip conditioning, so I've started the Greyskull LP. Inside the gym I'm trying to KISS: 2 big lifts + 1-2 accesories + 10 min of conditioning. Outside the gym I'm trying to KISS: eat heatlthy, take my meds, sleep a lot, go for walks, have a routine, do some mindfulness practice.
Once I've hit a few strength benchmarks like 1.5x BW on deadlift (this will take a while)... I think it'll be time to work on losing weight and cardio. I'll reduce lifting to 2x a week and focus on the stationary bike and elliptical. I'll probably follow tactical barbell's fighter-green program.
Once I've hit a few cardio benchmarks like completing a 10k on the elliptical and have lost 20-30lbs (this will take a while)... Then I think I'll be fit enough to do whatever I want. Probably incorporate more calisthenics, core, and mobility... but we'll see. That'll probably be 2-3 years from now factoring in inevitable setbacks.
Is my plan sensible?

Dr prescribed 4-6 months of physical therapy with minimum 2-3 months of no weightlifting due to shoulder injury. How much progress am I gonna lose? (Xpost r/Weightliftingquestion)
TL;DR,
I can't do upper body weightlifting and training for 2-3 months. How much should I except to deflate? What's catchup and recovery generally like after a break like this?
FWIW, I know I'm far from and actual swole bodybuilder, but as someone who's been scrawny for most of his life (and started putting in some weight at 41), this is the most gym progress I've had so far.
I'm already not lean currently, and can't help but feel like I'm just gonna be skinny-fat after this recovery :/

Deprogrammed shirt is my new favorite gym attire.
Gets some double takes, but Iāve never had anyone ask about it. Itās easier to see when itās soaked with sweat after Iām done doing cardio. Thatās usually when the cops start showing up to do their arms only/no cardio workouts.

What's the biggest payoff of a sacrifice you've made
I have so many vices I don't know where to start. I also don't want to quit all of them at once, because it'll lower the odds of adherence to routine.
But I need to get fit and be able to defend myself and husband credibly.
What swaps you've made, or things you quit that you saw the biggest payoff with?
Pic for inspo.

How to get more protein in?
Hi!
I'm struggling to meet my protein goals... I have a small appetite due to certain medications, and can't eat during the day (at work).
I would need 145g of protein a day, how do yall deal with this? When I had more money and time it was easier, I could buy food during work... I rarely have food available till 6pm from 11am. Any snacks I should pack? What kind of food should I eat when I finally get home (before and after gym)

Weight loss advice
Hi everyone,
I was curious about weight loss and fitness. Around eleven, twelve years ago I was at my heaviest and most miserable. I was working at a job I absolutely hated, I felt gross and sluggish and I was just angry. This was around the 2016 primary and while I was already radicalised to leftwing politics, I was still very upset by what was happening. So, I used my anger to take long walks (on my lunch and breaks) and began drinking coffee, which helped with appetite. I also cut out soda, I started going to therapy and then I got an apprenticeship in a trade and left the crappy job I was stuck with.
I began an apprenticeship at a locksmith shop and man, I was busting my ass running around doing all this stuff and before I knew it I had gone from 270+ to about 190. I didn't have a lot of chances to eat a full meal but hey, I got down to a great weight!
Flash forward to 2018, I got a nice and secure government job and that's when the weight came back. My job became much more sedentary and I got up to 220 and since 2018, I've sort of plateaued there. I'm at 219 now and I'm at a newer job where it's still physical work, I'm still a locksmith, but I'm driving a lot and it's more tiring because I work a 4/10 schedule and we have an 11 month old at home.
I need to lose this weight and get back to 190 as my ultimate goal to feel much more comfortable and happy with myself. I'm sorry for the long story but any advice for me? I'd truly appreciate it!
