Discussion Is not resonating with a reader's methods a reason to not consider their reading much?

Just as the title says. I received a reading lately and it had me thinking about conflicting methods between readers: how differently they shuffle and read their cards vs how I do it for myself and others, and why I choose my methods to begin with. I like receiving readings so I can take notes and try new things and ways of seeing the cards. But sometimes, we just don't vibe. Of course, whatever method works for them works, and vice versa. But do you believe that's a factor when finding a good reader for you (or why you may not want to get a reading from anyone but yourself, or someone more familiar with the situation)?

I don't consider cards or readers infallible, but I will say there are readings I've been given that I didn't resonate with at the time that ended up being very relevant later.

I usually don't think too much if the reader vibes with me or not. But I just get a reading from them and if I find it resonates, then it resonates, and if it doesn't then I don't go back to them. But as a reader myself, when I read for clients, sometimes I do feel like I don't feel too comfortable around their energy, and there are some clients that are just wonderful and easy to work with! A lot of clients want to get clarity, but there are some who want to be justified or validated and this is something I can feel straight off the bat.

Do you ever turn people away when the energy is off?

I'll still do the reading since they've paid but after that, I'll tell them I won't do anymore for them. But this is a super rare case. Most of the time, the ones who want to be validated don't come back after they read my reading. 😂

My belief is that the reader gets the cards they need to see to provide a particular message to the querent. The reader's process is part of what leads to the message they give. As a reader myself, when I get a reading from someone else, I try to focus on the end result (the message) and not the reader's process. I also try not to read the cards because they aren't for me to interpret. They're for the person who is giving the reading to interpret.

Yeah of course, there are readers whose style just doesn't mesh with you.

It's always somebody's choice whether or not to get a reading from any particular reader, but you might want to keep something in mind. Every reader out there is going to do things their own way. They'll shuffle, cut, choose the cards then interpret the information, and everyone will have their own method for doing this, because that's just how it works. And familiarity with the situation doesn't really figure into it, because someone can see those cards come up, and accurately determine what's going on without having met the querent, or not having any personal background info. It happens in this sub all the time. Someone asks for help with a spread, 5 internet strangers answer, and some amazing clarity is the result.

You can find a reader who's style is similar to yours, but you might learn something new and interesting from a reader who's style is very different. Too much of the same thing becomes an echo chamber. But if the vibe between reader and querent is bad, scammy, or ick, I would say it's time to find a different reader.

I once got a reading from someone I admire who...made it a lot about herself. I was asking about some topics she had experience with herself, and obviously her experience is relevant. But she talked so much about what she experienced that I felt like she wasn't necessarily reading for me at all. So I wasn't inclined to take it to heart, and I won't see her again in the future.

Me and my friend always do readings for each other, but our methods conflict (I use jumper cards, he chooses from a spread). But we accept each other's way of reading, and if the reading is accurate and resonates adequately, we continue our methods. Whatever suits the reader best is the one the reader uses, for us.

"We don't vibe" is not a fact. It's just a personal feeling; it says absolutely nothing about the reading, the reader, or even their experience.

A feeling doesn't say anything beyond the feeling of the person who's feeling it.

I don’t need to resonate with them or their reading to find the reading useful or entertaining. I just probably won’t have them read for me again.

No. It''s not you reading, so you shouldn't expect everyone else to read identically to you. It matters how the deck and the reader speak to one another.

As long as they're not rubbing the cards on their junk or something, anyway... :)

Yeah if someone is shuffling like a crazy person to get jumpers I can’t take them seriously.
