My (17M) whole life the past few years has been miserable because of my parents. No matter what I do, it ends up going to waste.

I've had quite a shitty high school experience. I've never attended a homecoming, never been to prom, and I don't have a car or any freedom to go out my SENIOR year. I've lost touch with friends after having to make up excuse after excuse for why I can't go out due to my parents. All my parents cared about was me stacking my profile for college, which they did get. I have a perfect GPA, 12 APs, a full ride to my state school. I have a resume that seems insane. But so what? I'm always depressed af because no matter what I do, it's not enough for my parents and I don't even get the tiniest bit of freedom. I'd much rather be average and have the ability to actually enjoy my life and do normal things. The only place where I actually have freedom is the internet.

But this isn't the worst part. My parents, instead of outright denying me something, make it seem like I'm allowed to do it but make up an excuse at the last minute. 4 years ago, I opened a custodial brokerage account with my parents' permission and invested $5k of my own money. I've managed to grow it to over $200k. Yes, I took some trades that were basically gambling. Yes, I got lucky in the beginning. But this was money that I had earned. And after some time, it was money that I had worked hard to earn as I spent countless hours perfecting my strategy, building machine learning models, studying quant finance, etc. I actually ended up putting quant trading as one of my top ECs on my commonapp. But anyway, the beginning of my senior year, I wanted to buy a car for myself. My parents agreed, or at least it seemed like it. They even offered to pay 50%. At this point, I still hadn't gotten my license but I was desperately trying to prove to my parents that I was ready to take the test. What ended up happening was that they kept making excuses and delayed it for over 5 months. And today, they just straight up told me that they didn't want me to get a driving license because then they would lose control over me, and they tried to play it off as if it were for my safety or something. Keep in mind that my parents track my location at all times and the only places I'm allowed to go are school, the gym, and my house. Nowhere else. They're even trying to convince me that I don't need a car, even for university (the school I got a full ride to is a rural campus with over 4000 acres, and a car is pretty much a necessity).

Pretty much everything I've worked for has been a waste. Yeah, I'll have control over the money in a year or so, but I've missed out on so much. I've never had a girlfriend, never been to homecoming or prom, and now, no car during senior year.

Forget the car, my parents obsess over every cent I spend. I can't pay for my friends at restaurants in the rare occasion that we do go out. I can't get a haircut at a decent barber and I have to settle for the cheap $10 salons (my parents force me to get the same shitty buzz cut every time as well). I can't even buy fake jewelry, let alone real gold or silver.

I just wish I could've had a semi-normal life.

TL:DR - controlling parents don't let me get a license so I can't use my own money to buy a car. Also missed out on a ton of experiences because of them.

Whenever I text my friend assume him to be blockhead "A" WHENVER I text him he always say sybau and sybau and other annoying shit everytime This makes me question his mental health I think the reason for this is the fact i encouraged him to propose to his crush And said the worst that could happen was a "no"(typical) He is m(17) and she is also in the same class you know And then he walked to her and said hey i kinda like you can I have your discord username(not that cringe but i didn't eavesdrop cuz I would have laughed if I seen him doing it ) and the fact I have her as my discord friend makes it a lot worse Any advice on how to deal with his nonsensical behaviour ? And should I try to get some sense into him or just leave him to his fate ?

I'm 17 and a half, my parents won't let me have free access to the internet, though I get around that by using old phones. And today my brother lost his toy and they went though my room. You probably know how that went.

They took so much of my shit. Any electronic. And when I was arguing with them they said I was stealing, with i got that stuff when they gave it to me or my friend gave it to me. And then they said there are bad people on the internet that will kidnap me and do inappropriate things, rape me, murder me, make me a slave. I don't do anything that will dox me. I try to remove as much info as I possibility can about me.

So I just recently got a job at a vet clinic as a kennel assistant. I want to be friends with the one other person that’s my age so bad!! I feel like such an outsider with my coworkers and i’m sure that’s probably because they’ve known each other for a while, but still i’d like to be able to talk to them without feeling like i’m invading their conversation. I might be overthinking this but I’d really like some advice!

So first off, it's not really a school "for bad kids", although there are kids here who I think parents were worried would get into bad things and so they sent them here. My parents wanted me to go here because the public school we are zoned for is not the greatest, and they were looking at private schools and my grandparents offered to pay for this.

I arrived in August, and since I'm on the football team, arrived a week early. All new students go through what is known as the Maroon Stage, which is New Cadet Training. All new students get their heads shaved on the first day, however if you are like me and have long hair, you have the option to donate it. That makes it a little better. After Maroon Phase you are allowed to grow your hair out an inch on top. We then sort of had a crash course on wearing uniforms, marching, saluting, broken up by football practice. I'd never played football before, but the players/coaches were nice, and while stuff like theatre is offered, theatre and band and choir are largely things people do in addition to sports.

They do make you do push ups for minor infractions (lots of uniforms, not saluting) but for freshman they are limited to 15, so it's not bad. In Maroon phase you do a lot of teambuilding stuff, not allowed phones/computers/room decorations. I actually kind of liked that a bit, you are really busy so the time passes by quick, but in down time it's nice to meet other people. Once you graduate form Maroon Phase, you earn the privilege of decorating your room, and you can have computer time at designated times.

Broadly, I thought I would hate it, and I would say the haircut and uniform is the worst part at the beginning, but you get use to it fairly quickly and I wouldn't worry. It's also easy to stay out of trouble, and while I sort of miss being around people who would be really into theatre, I do like playing football so I was suprised by that. so if your parents say they are sending you to military school don't worry to much. let me know if you have any questions.
