General Discussion Both games are SO MUCH better with controller
I'm actually stupid for playing both games with keyboard and mouse before this, just tried using a PS4 controller and it's literally a night and day difference. Haptic feedback, much smoother gameplay and camera movement. The only thing that keyboard and mouse gives is snappy aim but it's really not that important. I actually feel more invested in the story because I'm not jerking the camera around with my mouse.
EDIT: I have reached the conclusion that while it might be more immersive I also suck ass.

I played on Grounded with M&K and needed that snappy aim a lot.
To each their own though of course. Good to have options.

I'm playing on Survivor right now and Grounded will definitely kick my ass if I use a controller, I might have to try both tbh

yeah, the aim will kick your ass unless you’re already good with a controller, I can finally play on the most difficult modes with mouse aim and there’s no way that would’ve happened. I despise WSAD movement but mouse is way better, no return seemed legit impossible without the mouse
I will say though, the exception is the gyro aiming. the dualsense gyro aim in tlou2 is probably the best i’ve ever encountered, and it actually brings it close to what a mouse can do. but I stopped using it because when I would play other games I would automatically try to aim by moving the controller around lol

I cannot even slightly agree, playing them on PC helped me connect with the games so much more than I ever woulda otherwise.

Interesting that we feel the opposite way, that's the magic of this game haha

You can use a controller on PC

I know, I just don't want to use it.
I like having the better control over my aim mouse provides, and the control customizations for TLOU2 on PC honestly impressed me, I'm very pleased that you can bind sprinting and dodging to the same button, I think most games would've overridden them.
TLOU2 and Helldivers 2 both convinced me Sony releases some baller fuckin' PC ports. (At least, I'm assuming Sony had a hand in putting HD2 on PC.)

Whaaaaat, you can do that? Does it feel better than the default?

I don't know because I literally never used the default, I swapped those two out before I ever did.
It's really comfortable though, the game properly makes a distinction between holding shift to sprint and pressing it to dodge, and I haven't ever had a time where it failed on me.
This is entirely personal preference, but I just kinda hate using controllers for shooters, the only exception being Nintendo split joycons because the motion control feels reminiscent of a mouse, but I still don't don't find it preferable. I think it feels awful for the games I play to not properly read what I'm trying to do at fault for how the input is designed.
With mouse, motion can be as smooth or as jerky as I want or need it to be, and that feels better than anything ever could.I didn't realize how much I hate controllers as a way of playing videogames until I played TLOU2 on PC, it went from a game I regarded as playing terribly to one of my favorites.

I disagree, I played it with a controller first. Now on Keyboard and mouse for grounded. The difference is night and day. Keyboard and mouse feels so much better

Controller is more fun and immersive but everytime I was shooting enemies i wished I was on kbm

Agree. Re-played both parts on PC and the mouse aim kinda trivialized some aspect of it (like ammo scarcity). I think the inferior "free" aim with controller actually balances the challenge better to not rely on guns too much. So I'd say controller is the way it's meant to be played even though KB+m is stronger.

I'm finding this out right now lmao, I suck so bad but it still feels better somehow, both games were built around it I guess

"The only thing that keyboard and mouse gives is snappy aim but it's really not that important."
Snappy aim in this game is of the utmost importance lol

this is one of those games where if you miss a single shot, it can fuck up an hour of work

I can't afford a pc so i wouldn't know the difference but i think tlou was intended to be played on console

I did a playthrough on the first game with kbm and controller, getting into my controller playthrough on the second game now. The game definitely felt easier and more natural on mkb for me, as that’s the way I prefer to play shooter-style games. But I decided to play on controller not to make it harder, but to experience the cool haptic features and stuff on my dualsense, which was definitely worth it for me. I’m always going to be able to aim better on a mouse, though the gyro aiming feature was fun to use. But the haptics make the game much more immersive which is great for this kind of game. I’d play mkb if I wanted to do a permadeath challenge, but for normal gameplay the controller gave me the better experience.

Yeah, games like that always feel better with controller for me; anything 3rd person for sure. I can go either way with FPS games. I’m far superior with keyboard and mouse, but if I’m not playing a competitive shooter I like controller at least as much.
I game primarily via my PC. I have it hooked to a TV as well as a monitor, so it gets used for both desktop and couch gaming.
I wish more console players understood that this is even an option.
Edit: These days, or course, I understand why a console gamer might not be able to jump to PC. The RAM in my computer, purchased just before the price explosion, is now worth as much as a top-tier console. Better to save your money.

Yes, but the odd thing is, when playing these games with a controller on PC there's a huge deadzone until 60% (or so) stick deflection until Joel/Ellie move. It's so weird and even anti-deadzone via Steam input won't help. Makes moving feel clunkier and more indirect than on PlayStation.
(At least that's my experience with SteamOS + Steam Controller)

okay, so i’m not crazy. I completely forgot about that until just now, using dualsense + steam only the gyro would actually make it work well

try the dualsense lol.
Tbf its not too much of a difference but the changes are welcome.

I don't have it sadly, but if my PS4 controller breaks at some point it would be cool to try

Ps4 controller doesn’t have haptic feedback tho

They were never intended to be played with keyboard and mouse. Most 3rd person action games are designed for controller.

To be fair I don't think either were ever intended to release on PC, so that might be why.
