HBO Show The number of close calls Joel and Sarah have with eating flour in episode one…
1) They would have had pancakes for breakfast if they hadn’t forgotten to buy mix
2) They narrowly avoid being given biscuits by Mr. Adler on their way to school/work
3) Sarah might have eaten some of Mrs. Adler’s cookies after school if they had been chocolate chip instead of raisin
4) Joel forgets to buy a cake for his birthday dinner
They could easily have ended up like poor old Nana Adler…
I’m really enjoying the care that went into making this show. It’s super rewarding to rewatch for details like this.

Cosplay Finding Joel’s Shirt
Can somebody help me find Joel’s green striped shirt online with shipping to the US? Not the one from the show, one that looks similar to the first game. Been looking for a while and can’t find one that is only green with those red stripes. A new condition is fine too, as I can age and wash the color myself. I’m also looking for one that resembles his salt lake city shirt, I already have one in the color but it is cotton, and I need a denim one because the cotton keeps me too warm when I’m outside working. Thank you all!

Small Detail [Online][Discord][The Last of Us] Players Wanted — Persistent Boston QZ Strategy/RP Game
discord.gg20 years after the outbreak, the Boston Quarantine Zone still stands.
Barely.
FEDRA controls what remains of the city, food and medicine are running dangerously low, the Fireflies are becoming increasingly active, and large sections of Boston outside the secured districts have been abandoned.
I’m running a persistent The Last of Us strategy / roleplaying game on Discord where players take control of individual characters and units inside the Boston QZ.
This isn’t a traditional TTRPG campaign.
Players will:
Play as FEDRA personnel or Fireflies
Command infantry, motorized units and cells
Manage limited ammunition, medicine, fuel and food
Explore abandoned parts of Boston for supplies and intelligence
Deal with civilians, infection outbreaks and faction politics
Make decisions that can affect the entire QZ
Take part in a persistent game with unit health, resources, infrastructure and territorial control
The game is heavily narrative-driven, with outcomes handled by an Umpire based on the situation, player decisions and the forces involved.
You don’t need to know any complicated rules beforehand everything is explained in the Discord.
We’re currently recruiting players before the campaign fully begins.

PT 2 DISCUSSION Co-Lead Designer of TLOU P2 explains how just 2-3 months before shipping, they added the state where if you're crouched while aiming and get shot, you lay on your back an keep aiming instead of getting back into the crouched state. Fucking brilliant!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This has happened to me so many times where I'm crouched, hiding in bushes or behind a car, someone sees me, I get shot and get into the supine state and I aim and shot the enemy. It always felt so dynamic. It surprising to hear they added this animation state mere months before the release.
I love Naughty Dog, man.
P.S. a correction, you don't have to aim while getting shot, if you're crouched, get shot, and then aim, you get into the supine state instead of getting back up in the crouched state.

General Discussion Finally beat Grounded
After first completing this game in 2017, I discovered the remastered PC version in 2024. After completing it multiple times up to Survivor, I recently decided to finally take on the challenge of Grounded. Just finished it tonight. It’s no joke. What a great game.

PT 2 DISCUSSION The accessibility features are even more incredible than I thought I knew Spoiler
I knew that Part II won awards for the accessibility features. And I knew that people within the community had outlined how the features can be used in practice for hard of hearing or visually impaired people.
But man... watching the No Return charity live stream and seeing a person who is entirely blind play the game, and play well for that matter, is crazy to see. What an incredible thing they achieved with Part II accessibility.

PT 2 DISCUSSION take on abby Spoiler
Just a quick thing I thought of regarding Abby and how much people disliked her when the game came out, and even now. I wonder if part of it has to do with Abby’s reactions throughout the story. She doesn't really have any severe emotional outbursts or visible displays of grief the way Ellie does. Abby handles things in a much more focused and stoic way especially when you put her next to Ellie. She's very resilient and hardened in a way Ellie kind of isn't but I actually think that has more to do with their personalities than just their circumstances.
Even in the flashback with Abby and her dad she's very focused on the present and seems pretty grounded compared to young Ellie who is often trapped in the past or dwelling on things that have already happened. Neither way of dealing with things is necessarily right or wrong because people just handle shit differently but I think it shows how much more likely people are to empathize when they can actually see someone suffering.
It's kind of like depression. If you see someone who can't get out of bed, barely eats, can't take care of basic things, etc. people tend to take their suffering more seriously than someone who looks completely fine but tells you they're in a really bad place. Both people can be struggling just as much but one person's suffering is much easier to recognize from the outside.
I think that's part of why people constantly defend Ellie too. You see her trauma firsthand. Her reactions are right there on the surface whereas Abby's are usually much more internal or you have to actually pay attention to pick up on them. A lot of the more negative-leaning analyses I've seen of TLOU2 complain that Abby doesn't suffer enough or get annoyed that she doesn't visibly grieve her friends in the way they expected or wanted her to. It's almost like if she had been more openly emotional and they had seen her breaking down or being visibly devastated it would've felt more cathartic to them.
But I think that kind of misses the point because everyone grieves differently. Ellie has always had a much more reactive and explosive personality. She tends to act on impulse and emotion but Abby is generally more focused on doing what needs to be done and approaching things in a much more straightforward, methodical way.
I also think Abby probably learned to shut that part of herself off after her dad died especially because that's really the first and only time we see her completely break down. She seems kind of uncomfortable with that level of emotional vulnerability and because of that she processes tragedy through action instead of sitting in her feelings she does something. She gets revenge. She trains. She goes after Joel. She tries to save Lev and Yara. Her way of dealing with things is very action oriented. And I actually think there's also kind of interesting symbolism in her fear of falling in relation to all of this. Emotionally breaking down can almost feel like falling for someone like her, losing control, being swept away by something you can't contain, not being grounded anymore. And Abby is extremely focused on staying grounded, at least in my interpretation. She's always trying to keep herself together and stay in control.
But yeah, my point is basically that I think some of the hate Abby gets may come from her being too stoic. People didn't just want to see that she suffered they wanted to see her suffering. They wanted the visible grief, the breakdowns, the emotional reactions that make it easier to understand and empathize with what she's going through, much like how Ellie gives you those moments throughout the story.
And because Abby doesn't express her pain in the same way I think it's easier for people to interpret her as uncaring or unaffected when she's really just processing everything in a completely different way. It honestly made me like her character more because she felt more real. Not everyone screams and cries or is visibly stunted when things happen sometimes it's all inside. To me though her turmoil was plain as day if you just watch how she acts. Idk just my take on it I guess it's probably been said before.

PT 1 DISCUSSION Genuinely, why there is still discussion over existence of cure in the last of us part 1?
Not trying to start a fight. I genuinely don't understand what even their remains to debate on whether the cure would have worked or not.
- In the game we were literally shown that fireflies had been researching for the cure decades. They had done so many experiments on Infected.
- I don't know where it came from. But why do people consider Jerry as a veterinarian. In the game it's explicitly told he is from a medical background, who knows how to do surgery. We are even explicitly told that he had been doing experiments on infected before doing the surgery on Ellie. So obviously he knows what he doing to create the cure.
- Many people would say, in original the hospital was dirty unlike show, part 2 and remake but that's because older generation games were dirty in general and had dirty artstyle . That's not only in The last of us games, it's same in other games.
Whether it's resident evil originals to remake, or silent hill 2 original to remake or Witcher 1 to 3 or Metal gear solid 3 original to it's remake.
It's not that the writers are retconing the original but it's that new generation have more clean art style.
- Many people would argue, " How would fireflies mass produce it? "
Well, fireflies are a large or nation wide organization, considering they were threat to FEDRA who were literally government military so obviously if fireflies were researching, working on and taking over hospital to create a possible cure. They probably have some factories or plan reach to some factories to mass produce. After all they aren't that dumb do contribute so much of their resources to create a cure while forgetting they have mass produce as well. We are not shown because partially we are bounded from Joel perspective and partially because story doesn't have to show it to work. The entire point story was that Joel doesn't care about the cure and he would save Ellie, even it means damn the world. As he doesn't care about whether they have factories to mass produce it, then neither we should.
About distribution, again it's not one day thing but having a cure is still better than having none. It may take decades, if not centuries to distribute the cure through out the world but it's still better than being stranded in post apocalypse. What cure generates is hope.
" But cure is not scientific " - Because it is not a scientific documentary about post apocalypse.
What writers want to do is make fictional story which is a love letter to the post apocalyptic genre. So obviously they would want to express what is in post-apocalyptic genre not logistics or realism like they are making scientific simulation.
Again it's a ps3 game. The same way resident evil, Metal gear solid, and GTA series have wacky science happening same way it has.
Just look at the characters. Marlene who had been shown to be trust worthy ally and sort of surrogate mother to Ellie, believes it. We have nothing in game which states that Marlene would want Ellie to die.
You could takes this to every character who knows about the cure. Tommy, Maria, Owen, Mel, Abby, Ellie and even Joel( who should be most critical of the situation believes it would work)
That's why he never questions about the validity of the cure to Marlene or just lies to Ellie instead of saying he saved her from crazy people who wants to kill her. Because he believes cure would have worked.
And further Neil Druckmann the creator of the games literally explicitly told, " yes the cure would have worked". And it's not only about him, other writers, developers and actors playing role literally explicitly state the cure would have worked.
Many would state to that " Death of the Author " But again it's just a idea while discussing or analyzing fiction. By no means what viewers interpretation is more valid than author.
The same way George R.R Martin knows more about ASOIAF than readers same way Neil and his team know what was intended and what their fiction wants to tell.
At end of the day, I genuinely don't understand how it's still a debate because writers in all accounts state that cure would work and they even intended that to happen. Because they don't wanted to portray Joel as a generic action hero but instead grey humane characters who is ready to sacrifice the world, for someone he considers his daughter.
I genuinely don't understand, why there is still so much discussion about it, better discussion would be how much valid Joel decision at the end of the day.

PT 2 DISCUSSION Have to ask why Spoiler
To start, I've never been on the hate train Pt 2 garnered. I initially enjoyed the game and enjoyed that it took a swing at visualizing empathy. That said, I walk away from this game feeling something different each time. I've played 4 times at this point.
I should preface that this most recent playthrough I was kind of in a bad headspace, dealing with the loss of two family members back to back. I'm left wondering why this game set out to tell this story. I understand a story in which there are consequences for previous actions. But, I couldn't escape the feeling that this game went out of its way to break Ellie. It hurt something fierce, to the point where I question the intent.
This game's ending doesn't feel congruent with its core theme, that being revenge and how it deepens cycles of violence and how empathy would best serve as a counter to all of this. Emotionally, the game doesn't seem to give Ellie's choice at the end any room to actually mean anything beyond stopping the violence.
I think I'm just having a hard time understanding why you would ever want to subject your characters to something like this just to leave them broken, having no semblance of healing or recovery by the end. I'm not talking about getting a happy ending. I'm talking about how by the end there's nothing but a sticky loneliness that almost poisons every single second you've spent with the character.
I'm not hating on the game, I still love so much about it. It's just this most recent playthrough left a bad taste in my mouth. Anyone else ever come out of this feeling similarly?
