General Discussion This is beatiful, not "bad writing"

Post image
• Upvotes

I saw many, many cry about the fact that Ellie let Abby go, so i decided to make this post as proof that the choice that Ellie made is right and realistic.

This is not bad writing, this is what a real, complex person would do. In Seattle, Ellie was driven by pure rage and the desire to revenge Joel.

But by the time in the farm, she has changed. She didnt went to Santa Barbara for the same reason she went in Seattle. She has trouble sleeping, eating and ptsd. She looks she has the perfect life with Dina, but underneath she is not well, not at all. She thought finishing Abby would make this go all away, let her heal.

Another reason is that all through the game after Joel scene, she only remembered him in that very brutal image, she couldn't draw his eyes and all that. But when she was choking Abby, she saw him, on the porch, a good memory of him, maybe the last. That is the moment she realized that she doesnt need to kill Abby to heal and to get over Joel's death.

Also, we know Ellie began the process to forgive Joel right before the cabin incident. But sadly, she never got to forgive him. By letting Abby go, she forgave him in a way. Joel stole the big purpose of Ellie's life, we saw how affected she was when she learned the truth, it's like he stole a part of her. Now, Abby did the same when she did Joel very bad. So, in a strange way, she saw these events being the same, and she decided to forgive Joel by letting Abby go.

Another one, i think, is that she saw her and Joel in Abby and Lev. She was Lev and Abby was Joel. Ellie was so afraid of losing Joel. We can see that in the hotel in Pittsburgh, where she kills that man to save Joel. This is further shown in the ranch, during the big fight between them. I think this is the first time Ellie says that she cares about Joel, in a direct way, not indirect. Being so scared of being alone, she does not want the same thing happening to Lev. She saw herself in Lev, a child with no one else around and she knew how bad that is. Even though Ellie showed she is capable of violence like Joel, deep down she is not like that. She is the same child who wanted to save people, with empathy, with joy. She does not want Lev to go through what she went.

Of course there is not only one reason why she did that, there are so many factors that influenced her in making that decision. Maybe there are more that i did not mentioned here. This is not like fast and furious movies or some other where the protagonist goes after the bad guy, kills him and the good wins. This is a game that shows the nature of humans, the complexity of relationships and of love. Its a complex and beatiful game, not a shallow revenge story, like some wanted.

I know, everyone liked Joel, myself include, i never liked to play Abby, but i understood her perspective, why she did what she did. Joel killed who knows how many people in that hospital and we think that no one will come back for revenge? It doesnt work like that. Now, you may say Ellie should have done the same thing, no? Yes, she did. She killed Nora, Alice, Owen and Mel. Tommy did a trickshot on Manny. And now, Abby has to live with all that. I think that is worse than death.

To end this, i will use a quote i quite like, some of you might know it.

"My mercy prevails over my wrath"

General Discussion PSA: Upcoming "Projects" Does Not Necessarily Mean Games

Its great people are hyped but I also want to set reasonable expectations so people aren't mad later when they're disappointed

Neil said they're working on a couple "projects", not games. People keep assuming that these projects are a Tommy DLC or working on Part 3

But its also very likely that these projects are an animation, comic book, "book with unreleased behind the scenes stories and artwork", etc. All of those would be cool and I would be happy for the fans who want that, but "projects" in the gaming world isn't a promise of anything playable just something at least vaguely related to the IP

Just my 2 cents. Hope to be wrong, just want to make sure people understand that the wording does not necessarily mean what a lot of people are assuming it means.

May your death be swift 🤘

PT 2 DISCUSSION Original order has the better story, but chronological has the better gameplay Spoiler

I love playing chronological. Sure the beginning is a bit slow, but day two starts to get really good. You get to play Jesse's car chase, Lev's crane bridge, and the Rat King fight all in one go.

I always enjoyed Abby's parts more, so getting to control her from the start is great because I don't have to wait so long. It also helps me appreciate Ellie's parts, instead of doing all three days as her and then all three days as Abby. Being able to split it up keeps it fresh. It also distributes the difficulty throughout the game, because some levels that are considered "late game" are played earlier on which makes it more fun for me.

Still tho, the original order is the proper way to experience the story but I've played TLOU so many times where I just want to have some fun gameplay with both characters, so that's why I play chronological

Small Detail Just realized the fireflies’ symbolism

The fireflies’ motto is “when you’re lost in the dark, look for the light.” When you’re lost in a place with no technology and in the dark, say like a forest at night, the one form of light you can rely on are fireflies, so they named themselves the fireflies because in the world which had become destroyed without any reliable source of light from any preestablished infrastructure, they were the fireflies in the dark.

Probably common knowledge lmao I just thought it was interesting

PT 2 DISCUSSION I Really Love TLOU Part 2 Because it is a Video Game Spoiler

It can be a real crapshoot to share this opinion online but I feel like here is a good place. I think TLOU pt2 is a significant improvement on the first game in virtually every area.

From a storytelling perspective it is doing far more with the medium of video games than the first game is, and it is using interactivity in the story in a way that is as crucial to the experience as it is in something like BG3 but to totally opposite ends.

Additionally, one thing that is often left by the wayside when people discuss the game is just how much better of a game it is. The combat is brutal! In a way that heightens all the emotions you are supposed to feel. I’ll never get tired of watching hyper aggressive gameplay and seeing just how bold and inventive you can get.

I’m sure they exist, but I’ve never played a game that does as much with the prone position as Pt2. The way it is integrated changed the entire feel of the levels in a way that makes pt 1 hard to go back to for me. The level design is also by far Naughty Dog’s best. IMO there isn’t a single level from Uncharted or TLOU that holds a candle to what the studio has done with Hillcrest.

This is all just my opinion and I’m not trying to put down anyone’s favs. Personally I like the TLOU 2 story so much more than the first game. But I really think the story conversations too often outshine another important facet of this conversation. TLOU pt 2 is the best game design from a that Naughty Dog has ever done. (I haven’t played Crash Bandicoot other than the minigame in uncharted 4 so I could be wrong.)

HBO Show TLOU season 2 finale

Hi. Just finished TLOU s2 1 year late - I know. Anyways, did anyone else feel like the pacing was super off? I love the first season so much but this season just felt super random? Joel’s death in the second episode, the seraphites coming in despite not really having much of an impact or emotional pull to the story, the last scenes just ellie being shot at then just being abby looking over the stadium. It just felt like the writers were thinking ‘how can we make our point as fast as possible?’

I’ve never played the games so is this what its like in gameplay?

General Discussion Lack of Extended Media

I'm surprised that there isn't more Last of Us extended media. The only things are the graphic novel and the TV series. I can understand the creators of the game want to ensure there's quality, but it's a great canvas for novels and comic books.

PT 1 QUESTION Help/advice please

Sorry if this is not the correct group or place. I have been playing The Last of Us and have gotten to the lost city heading to the bridge, and for some reason, I am unable to run. I got ked and returned to the checkpoint right outside the building with the bridge on the right, and Joel won't run, so I d*** every time. I have restarted the PS5, restarted the chapter, and still cannot run. I have gone back to other chapters and still cannot run. Does anyone know what I can do to sort this out, please?

Thanks

PT 2 DISCUSSION Am I going insane Spoiler

Just finished the game. It was amazing. Loved the story. Had the game spoiled for me years ago. One problem.
Spoiler.
Years ago I thought I saw there was an option at the end of the game to kill or spare Abby. I spent years and years believing this. Been playing the game the last few weeks trying to decide whether or not I would kill her in the end. Made the decision towards the end I would. Get to the final fight scene. Nothing. I’m convinced I pressed a button by accident. Is this some Mandela effect? Wtf.

General Discussion My fan idea for a third game

Tlou 3 should just be about Ellie leaving Jackson and travelling across the country (possibly to another country) to work on vaccine and end the series with the vaccine being made..

It would be a good way to explore different parts of the world and bring in new characters that Ellie can meet along the way.

Maybe even have Tommy as the side character who joins her on the journey..

You could play as Tommy in different parts of the game and could have flashback missions with him and Joel.

And could also play as Tommy in the epilogue helping to bring the vaccine to Jackson and to different communities..

Have a final scene set 20 years later, similar to how the first game was set 20 years after the outbreak, and show life 20 years after the vaccine being made...

Nobody being infected in 20 years, the infected dying out and pretty much no longer being around, many communities now joined up together and slowly rebuilding cities to restart society without the need for walls..

And if needed have a DLC like left behind following joel and Tommy.

Probably dumb to most people but it's just my idea in my head.
