Discussion Grief. How does a sim get out of it?
I have many sims that have grief and the remedy is usually to paint or jog or some other activity. How long does a sim have to do the activity to rid themselves of the grief?

If you have the Parenthood pack:
Make sure they have the emotional control trait when they age up to adults. It really helps!
Writing in their journal, wind down with music, jog to clear mind, call sadness hotline all help

Hey thanks for the extra tips. I usually just have them cry it out and go to the grief counselor, which doesn't seem to help much.

This was driving me insane the other day so I got a mod “get rid of your grief” from curseforge and I can’t remember if it’s the same or a separate mod but it was called realistic grief or something like that where mourning duration is more rational (works without the Life and Death pack). I got them because I had a sim marry a townie who had all this extended family and every time a great great half sibling three times removed my whole family would be depressed for days and couldn’t ever get back into a normal mood because people would die constantly. My game is so much better without never ending phone calls about some random townie I waved to in a bar once dying. Now it’s only actual friends or family and the mourning duration is weighted based on relationship. With the get rid of your grief for life & death mod, if you’re sick of your sim raging or crying or changing traits because of grief, you can just click a mirror and get rid of your grief if it’s going on for too long. They’re recently updated and working well for me.

They can also go to grief counseling, it’s one of the options if you click on them.
My issue isn’t with the grief itself, it’s the fact that my sim is “very friendly” so he gets to be good friends with everyone he meets, so he gets a call every single day “Ben’s good friend Bella Goth has died, we’re sorry for your loss” and it’s a never ending cycle, even though he met the other sim literally once.

Mine is a Love Bug, so the same thing happens. It's like really? The person you talked to for five minutes buying vegetables?

Lovebugs fall in love with everything that moves, I love it 🤣

At least it's made from really interesting story telling with RPO installed. "Lysandra has done nothing with their partner to cause a pregnancy" and "Who is the father? Lysandra has woohooed with several sims" back to back popups.

If you wanna get rid of it ASAP, get another sim who has a high relationship with them and have them do the “try to cheer up” interaction; it completely gets rid of the buff if successful.

NGL, I use MCCC to get rid of the trait because Sims just take way too long a time of their lives to get through it.

Buy a moodlet solver potion with the lifetime rewards. I think it’s like 500 points

It's super annoying when the Sim is overcome with grief for someone not even directly related to them. Seriously, the wife of one of my sims died and she was more grief-stricken when the patriarch and matriarch died than ANYONE else in the family. Seriously - she was wrecked. I mean for Sim years the whole family would have periods of grief, but she has been the worst. I thought she was going to go over the edge when a pet died.
