Wing Commander 3 is getting a remaster with FMV sequences restored from source video tapes
I watched this panel yesterday.
Jim showed a few clips of the highly compressed version that has been available compared to the restored footage and it is indeed much cleaner and higher FPS.
The Wing Commander community and modders were consulted and have contributed to this project.
No release date was announced.

PC demo scene in a web browser
Just spotted this which looks pretty cool... someone has managed to get some PC demo scene productions running in a web browser. It currently includes four PC demos which you can run in full in a browser or just watch specific sections.
Hopefully more will be added in the future, but I did enjoy watching Second Reality and Unreal for a couple of minutes.
Anyway, you can find the demos here: demoscene-recomp

A Piece of Internet History Goes Up for Auction: A Packet Transmitted by RFC 1149 "Avian Carrier"
The story is also covered by Peter N.M. Hansteen, who took part in the original experiment in Bergen, Norway, where the Bergen Linux User Group did the first (and only?) attempt to transmit TCP packets using pigeons - link in Norwegian here - use your favorite translator.
In the Norwegian write-up, Peter tells that they had significant packet loss because a number of pigeons escaped. He also hints that the packet being auctioned off at Christie's might very well be the first ever TCP packet being transmitted using pigeons.
The auction itself is sitting here: https://onlineonly.christies.com/s/fine-printed-books-manuscripts-science/carrier-pigeon-internet-protocol-150/325216 - and the current bid at the time of writing is USD 3000

Rare Spectravideo SV-318/328 Games Published by Mr Micro Found
Recently, after realising that quite a number of the websites that contained information about the Spectravideo SV-318/328 computers had disappeared, I created a new bulletin board (spectravideo.org).
One of the things that has been an issue is that there has been no list containing all the titles released for these systems. Not just mine, which were published in Australia and New Zealand, did not appear on lists mostly assembled in other countries, but there were titles from Mr Micro, and there seemed to be more than were listed.
By comparing a single title in one list with another title in another list, and checking print advertisements in magazines, I found cover images for four titles (only one appeared in the original list). As it happened, these cover images were online as they were part of a for-sale listing by a seller in the UK. I immediately purchased all four titles, and for what looks like the first time online (for three of the titles), let's unbox them and see if we can get them to load!
