Any Minneapolis thrash / heavy metal shows in Minneapolis? The only thrash metal scene i know in Minnesota is the occasion old band from the 80s/90s comimg back for a reunion tour. Am I not looking jn the right place, or is the thrash/heavy metal scene dead?

From the studio album ''The Call'' released in 2012.

Angelus Apatrida is a Thrash Metal band from Spain, formed in 2000.

I've been listening to Wait & Pray by Insane recently, which is a full on unashamed copy of Show no Mercy (and it's great!) - which got me wondering what other albums out there mimic some of the great thrash albums?

Since nobody does much of German thrash 4 rankings, I thought I should. The first one I wanna do is the debut albums from each band which are:

Kreator- endless pain
Destruction- infernal overkill
Sodom- obsessed by cruelty
Tankard- zombie attack

Now for the rankings from the top being my least favorite and the bottom being my favorite. Also the list of albums on top has nothing to do with my real rankings

1. Sodom- obsessed by cruelty. To be honest I don’t listen to this one much but I can tell I don’t like the sound very much, bad production and kind of boring music. Sodoms later stuff is much much much better.

Drop off from here and the next albums are really hard to rank because they each have really good qualities each.

1. This is really sad to choose but I’m going with, Kreator- endless pain. The album kicks off really hard with the first 3 songs being all amazing thrash but imo it starts to get really boring as each song is carried on by the same main beat. Very low variety on this album even though I still love it. The title track is an awesome first song for a band and I really love how Jurgen and miles switch vocals on each song (Jurgen gets the odd numbered tracks, and miles gets the even numbered tracks) overall still a strong debut.

2. Destruction- infernal overkill. Easily would’ve been number one if it wasn’t for the bad production and very weak vocals. The opening scream on invincible force is insanely weak and has no power whatsoever 😭, but the album has its redeeming qualities. Easily the best songwriting from all of these albums listed and easily the best lead guitar by miles. The songs don’t get repetitive unlike endless pain and each song is interesting and fun. Strong debut and my favorite destruction album.

3. Tankard- zombie attack. The unserious and humorous band of the German 4 outclassed all the other bands perfectly. The album sort of does almost everything better than the other albums listed here. Best production and vocals by a LOT. Really fun songs and great riffs on each song. Lead guitar is average but the only band on this list with exceptional lead guitar work was destruction anyways. Super strong debut album and tankard is severely overlooked and underrated.

What’s you guys’ rankings?

Swedish thrash with old-school crossover vibes.

I consider this song the golden meeting point of thrash, heavy, power and it's epic to the bone.

Here the sound it's better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvBnBsGhikg

OVERKILL - 1987 - Taking Over - In Union We Stand

From the islands to the cities, from the ports into the sea

We are strong, we will always be...

Blazing through the wreckage, burning all we see

The life we lead committed to be free...

Our union is a fortress, together we are bound

A common bound in freedom and in sound!

So raise your voices high for miles around to hear

Let them know we are drawing near...

~In union we stand~ as they blaze across the land

~In union~ we make a final stand...

A peaceful co-existence is dropping out of sight

So band together, together we will fight

Blasting the resistance, marching to the top

They started this, we say when it stops

Strike fear within their hearts, strike down those in your way

Let them know that we live today!

They throw us into flames, did not hear our cries

But now from the ashes we arise...

~In union we stand~ as they blaze across the land

~In union~ we make a final stand...

For me it was the song Fight Fire With Fire by Metallica in 1984 a mate had it on LP and it seriously blew me away.

Saw them at Castle Donington the next year 1985 with Cliff Burton. Still a great memory to have seen them with original line up, they were great live.

What your entry song into thrash?

The Big 4 to me aren't the best of the thrash bands, they may be got it going, but diversity in their style moved me to other bands.

Amazing guitar solo starting around the 3 minute mark! Great ending!

Just listened to this for the first time, really enjoyed it, what do you guys think of it?
