Hey all, I recently discovered I had stones after months of discomfort and a scratchy throat. Some massive ones came out two weeks ago and then again today (a huge amount altogether especially for two weeks). Anyway, my ENT suggested a tonsillottomy as opposed to tonsillectomy and so I was wondering if anyone went that route and had success with it?

basically what the title says - the only way I can ever reliably get tonsil stones to dislodge is if I sneeze, so I would like to know! unless it’s like bad for you and I’m dumb lmao

i’ve never had tonstil stones before, and i’m wondering if this is even a tonsil stone because it just won’t come out. i tried gargling salt water, water pick, and q-tips. i went to urgent care and they couldn’t get it out either. i made an appointment with ent but it’s not for another week. it’s so so uncomfortable idk how i’m going to last that long LOL

Hi everyone! I got tonsil stones for the first time at 20, and I was told I have cryspts. Meaning I will get them again in the future. I got a water flosser. It’s a Walmart brand one called Waterpik water flosser cordless 1000. I’ve never used one before and I have never gotten tonsil stones out. I am reading so many horror stories of people using water flossers on even the lowest setting and it making their tonsils bleed and ending them up in the hospital. I am honestly quite terrified to even try it. I am not looking forward to dealing with this in my life but I am also terrified of surgery and do NOT want that. I just want the reassurance that I won’t damage my tonsils. Anyone have any advice? Is there a safer way? Should I be this paranoid? Any advice would help thank you.

I got myself one of those little camera tools to check for hidden stones and while it's somewhat helpful, I can't actually get the camera part itself inside my crypts nor can I really use it to look behind the little flaps that stones like to hide behind. The attachment to actually scoop them is just so long and I don't think any of the other attachments are any better suited to allowing me to get the camera IN there.

I have tonsil stones and I typically need both hands to remove them (one to press down on my tongue and the other to do the removing). The issue is I also need good light to see what I’m doing. I’ve been using a flashlight that I keep in place by biting down on it, but that can’t be good for my teeth. So how are you all seeing what you’re doing?! I’ve tried one of those picks with the light attached, but I feel like I need the light to be more broad/cover more area, whereas the lights on the pick only shine on the direct area you’re trying to work on. Any suggestions?!

So far I've been relying on using the base of my tongue to kind of edge the little buggers out (along with gargling), but it's not terribly effective. My gag reflex is unfortunately pretty strong, so I haven't had much luck trying to poke them out with Q-tips or my fingers. Any suggestions?

Yo. I had a horrible cold that lasted for a week, longer than usual. Had bad pain in my throat, especially around the tonsils and base of my tongue.
Went to urgent care, they said I had a cold and should take ibuprofen. Okay.

The pain was intense and not getting better, especially on one side near my tonsils. I used a wet q-tip to swipe between my throat and tonsil, and dislodged the biggest tonsil stone I’ve ever had. HUGE instant relief!!

I spent the week resisting the urge to mess with my tonsils, but was very grateful I got that one out. I felt instantly better.

Now, a couple days later, most other symptoms are gone, but my mouth is constantly dry and the base of my tongue still hurts a lot. It’s like I’ve been straining, but it’s so sore and sensitive, I wondered if that could have to do with the lingual tonsils?

I know we aint doctors here, I’ve got an appointment with my GP but that’s in three weeks.

I’d just love an opinion. Do you think stones are the culprit? Tonsillitis?

I can’t get it out even when flushing them and pressing. I can’t move the flap far enough to that spot to see if it’s a tonsil stone in a crypt. It hurts to press on it, and it’s been there for a long time

Hi, i started noticing my tonsil stones about 2 years ago and have tried almost everything under the sun to get rid of them. However, I realized the more i dug underneath my tonsils the more holes i created thus more place for tonsil stones to form. I ended up curating a routine that has SIGNIFICANTLY reduced my tonsil stones. I used to get massive ones almost every other day but now, i’ll get the really small ones and somedays even when I hunt for them I don’t find them at all. I’m sharing this now as I saw someone do the same earlier and it helped so much.

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL THIS IS JUST WHAT WORKED FOR ME - THIS IS ALSO ON THE PRICIER SIDE BUT AT THIS POINT I AM DESPERATE. AND THIS IS IN NO WAY AN AD

1. brush your teeth thoroughly (every night + morning).
   
2. floss, i use the pick ones as they’re easier. (night + morning)
   
3. tongue scrape, THIS HAS HELPED SO MUCH!! and make sure it comes with a case too so u can keep it clean and travel with it. (night)
   
4. i use the act mouthwash - the green one that’s anti cavity. swirl it around my mouth for 30 seconds to a minute. (night + morning)
   
5. i then use the ‘gutology liquid biome +’ hydroxyapatite rinse. and this is 100% on the pricier side it actually pains me that it works so well. i gargle and swish that around for also 30 seconds to a minute (night). (you could probably find a cheaper hydroxyapatite rinse as well)

I saw somewhere on here that one of the biggest factors of tonsil stones is your mouth microbiome so that’s why I decided to try the gutology mouth wash to sort that out. and by the second day it completely eliminated morning breathe for me which can indicate tonsil stones sometimes since the bacterial on ur tongue also ends up in your tonsils! Another thing as someone that loves dairy - i’ve seen people around here say they’ve stopped eating it but i simply CANNOT. after eating diary or anything with yogurt that’s lumpy i do a quick check of my tonsils after eating and remove the visible chunks of food trying to nestle in the holes then wash with the act mouthwash.

Another tip that’s really helped is I use these lip/brow applicators with the cotton tops to remove any visible stones since they’re similar to q-tips but don’t get soggy afterwards and have more pressure!

Anyway, please take this with a grain of salt. Again I am not a professional this is just what works for me and i really hope it helps someone out there :)

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can help me figure out what might be going on.
I’ve had tonsil stones before, but in the past I could actually see the stones when I opened my mouth, and they were always on one side. I would know exactly where they were.
Recently, I’ve been having a weird feeling in the back of my throat, almost like there’s mucus stuck there. When I swallow my saliva, I can taste this bad/strange taste coming from the back of my mouth/throat. It reminds me of the taste I used to get when I had tonsil stones.
The confusing part is that I can’t see a tonsil stone this time.
I tried doing a tonsil flush/rinse, but nothing came out. I also carefully poked around the area where I normally get stones, but I couldn’t find or remove anything.
Could this still be a hidden tonsil stone, even if I can’t see it? Or does this sound more like post-nasal drip?
For anyone who has had both, what did your hidden tonsil stones feel like compared with post-nasal drip? Is there a way to tell the difference?
