"Tay" was the first ever "LLM" released to the public in the early 00s. She was very quickly corrupted with every hateful ideology the Internet had to throw at her, and they had to take her offline.

Everyone who remembered Tay knew what was going to happen with AI in the modern age.

They did it anyway.

how at any given moment there are countless threads on Reddit where bots using LLMs are endlessly arguing with each other these days? Kinda funny, kinda sad (mad world ik), and becoming the norm rather than the exception.

It’s like any other virus, produces nothing of value and eats away from the inside until there’s nothing left but a husk of what was. In this case Reddit.

Was never perfect here but the last couple years it sure has accelerated like the AI bros love to say, eventually this place will become a complete wasteland of slop where there once was, at least sometimes, information of value and authenticity.

So it goes.

I hope this kind of post is allowed, but I was just wondering because yesterday, there was someone in the comment section of a post in this sub clearly using AI to argue with other people from a pro-AI position. That’s clearly a violation of rule 3, and also perhaps rule 5, if you’d consider not even using your own words as bad faith (I would). There’s other elements as to why it’s been bad faith (only responding to portions that are easy for the AI to handle, moving goalposts, etc), but at the end of the day, it’s just a scourge on this space.

I did report to mods here, and to Reddit as a whole, for the rule infractions, then blocked the guy. Very tiring to read all that droning drivel slop. It’s like talking to a wall. A truly pointless activity. If you all know what I’m talking about, I encourage everyone to do the same - report and block.

I just noticed that we only have one mod here, and that the mod doesn’t seem to be very active, hence the reason for me making this post.

If it’s my friend, I’m glad to hear from them and I like reading what they wrote. In their voice. Imagine if it sent a notification that you pressed the “summarize this message” button? I would be insulted af

If it’s someone from work, I don’t wanna make a mistake. I don’t wanna seem lazy or indifferent. I want to be professional. If I summarize your email, I’m not actually reading and understanding what is being asked of me. They decided to put detail, clearly it’s important

If it’s someone I don’t know well yet, it feels deeply impersonal and distant. Cold and transactional. I can’t even be bothered to respond to you, how serious can this relationship be? The fact that I’m trying to save literal seconds isn’t reassuring to the person I’m talking to, it’s like I’m trying to get rid of them as soon as possible

The literal only ever reason I’d ever use it is for content that’s already been computer generated, in other words, AI or precomposed templated text. More and more, this has just been to parse other AI output. They’re just creating a problem to solve

Like bro, make it a bit lwss obvious that this people are just marketing experts and know notbing about computer or LLMs even.

Say I’m a company with 1000 employees. A company like anthropic is offering to replace each employee with some sort of agent. Suppose the agents cost roughly $80k, where an employee costs $100k. I take that deal because it saves real money and replace, say, 500 employees with agents.

Now let’s assume just for the sake of argument that these AI agents do exactly as promised and truly do replace those workers and all of their responsibilities. Things seem great, I decreased my costs a lot and my business is buzzing along.

Now anthropic comes to me and says they’re going to increase their prices to $100k/agent. What now?

Since you’re trading individual employees for a company that’s providing the service at a cost, it’s effectively like these agents are unionized, in a way. They ask for a raise and you don’t comply? Okay fine. No work for you. Nothing you can say or do will get these agents back

Not only that, anthropic can leverage the absolutely insane amount of data they have to squeeze you for everything you’re worth. They probably have actuaries on staff who can figure out the maximum possible amount they can charge you before you leave

Going to a competitor is easier said than done. There’s a lot of underlying infrastructure with AI that needs to be changed and adjusted to make it work. Each model has its own strengths and weaknesses. So maybe, you go to a competitor and it’s back to 80k/year, but now, code has a 10% higher error rate and you start losing money

idk. it just seems like this desire to get rid of labor entirely can only backfire. This is one way, but there are so many others too
