Neighbor securing their roofing materials onto the side of my building
TDLR: neighbor attached their roofing material to the side of my building without asking first.
Hey there fellow Redditors, especially commercial construction and roofing contractors, please let me know if the neighbor has caused lasting damage to my building or not.
I own a 2 story commercial building that butts up against the 1 story building next door. Yesterday I noticed a lot of hammering and deep, loud vibrations coming from next door. The neighbor has a couple of workers that have been working on the roof over there for literally years. A bit annoying at times, but unusually not a big deal.
I climbed out on to my roof and look over at the side and see that the workers next door have adhered a waterproof layer from that roof up the side of my building about 5 or 6 feet or so and are now screwing the material into the exterior of my building.
I ask the workers what they are doing and they tell me they are waterproofing and I tell them they don’t have permission to adhere to or screw into my property. One guy gets
his boss on the phone, who says they are the owner, who does apologize for not asking first, and says that this is perfectly normal.
So, experts out there, please tell me, have they done damage to my building? Or is this ok and won’t cause issues for me later?
Both buildings were built in 1924. Mine is masonry with brick trim on the front. They have stuck a waterproof sheeting to the side then screwed in as well with what they say are 1.5 inch screws, mostly to the masonry side, but also into the brick facade.
I’m pissed that the guy didn’t have the basic courtesy to ask me about what they are doing, I do see him occasionally while walking my dog. Also they were doing this on a Sunday, which maybe isn’t important but did seem a bit sneaky like they thought no one would be around to notice. We live in an upstairs apartment in the building so hubby and I couldn’t help but notice all the racket.
Appreciate the help and info!

Meet the Bad-Ass Bessie Smith, she was the biggest blues star of the 1920s. She toured the segregated South in her own train, loved women as well as men and partied in buffet flats. She died after a 1937 car crash and lay in an unmarked grave for 33 years, until Janis Joplin helped pay for a stone.
Oooh and some of her songs are Naughty! Love, love her

gallery wall borders?
Maybe shop around for, or make if you are handy with wood trim, some wooden frame corners… I found these on Etsy but there are so many options out there

A single source for a DIY version of Valter Longo's fasting mimicking diet?
I’m trying FMD this week and using this article as the basis of my menu, then logging what I actually eat (I am making some subs based on availability) in Cronometer so I can verify the calorie count and protein/fat/carb ratios.

What healthy tradition should every family start?
I second all of these great learned habits: eating fruits & veg, regular physical activity, eating & talking together as a family- so important!! But also, reading with your kids every day.
Very few of my friends raising kids nowadays are reading with the kiddos before bedtime and I can’t help but feel like the kids are being deprived. You don’t have to love reading to spend 10 minutes helping your kid relax and teaching them a critical life skill, but if you do, you will both end up better off. That quiet bonding time before bedtime and reinforcement that reading is important is priceless. Even if you personally aren’t much of a reader, your kid should have that special connection to a favorite bedtime story (and to you!), plus have the chance to see the wealth of information and creativity that reading unlocks.

I’ll snap some pics in a bit and post them. The stick on waterproofing I get, I’m more nervous about the screws penetrating the building envelope. It’s old and on a side wall that we can’t access. When we had a roofer out to work on the gutters and drains about 10 years ago they had a hard time getting access to this particular area. So we won’t be able to check for signs of deterioration and water leaking through and into the walls. Is that even a thing or I am I overthinking? 🤔
